This coming football season change.VOL Is by enrollment a D4 league. But with continued success rule. Central Catholic is now D1 . Manteca now D2. Oakdale D3. All others D4. My question is there any other league like that?
But unlike the SJS and the VOAL league, CCS doesn't seed playoff teams via enrollment. Nor does the CCS section pre-set divisions like the SJS section. For what it's worth, the PAL Bay has schools ranging in size from 650 students to just over 2,000.
There will never be a situation where all teams in a league automatically qualify for the playoffs. Look at the SFL: Folsom, Oak Ridge, Granite Bay, Del Oro, Rocklin, Whitney. The SFL gets four automatic qualifiers. The other two can and usually do still make the playoffs, but they have to meet the qualifications to receive At-Large playoff bids. With a tough league schedule like this there should be an understanding that all would make the playoffs. Now, will this happen? I have no idea. As I said, someone else proposed this and I don't know if he has any insight. This would be a departure from what has been done but it would be interesting.
I thought about the VOAL last year and was surprised by the multiple division levels (3) from this league in playoffs. WCAL, using a completely different formula, had three different playoff divisions. And I think there were leagues from the SDS and SS sections that had multiple playoff divisions. But I do think VOAL is unique in having 4 different pre-classed divisions in one league. This coming football season change.VOL Is by enrollment a D4 league. But with continued success rule. The topic is having so many pre-set division teams in one league. But your point is an important one. Multiple divisions in one league doesn't preclude playoff spots. But theoretically, VOAL could be selected for 4 different playoff divisions. There will never be a situation where all teams in a league automatically qualify for the playoffs. A valid point, the SFL is strong. However, the difference in the "Super League" is that these teams are being pulled from existing leagues where they dominate for the most part into a league where someone has to finish 5th, 6th and 7th. Switch from a situation where you're in the playoffs every year to one where you could have a great team and be left out? Personally, I don't think they will do this Super League. When they do the league shuffles I just think they'll try to do their best and hope that some of the bottom-dwellers can improve their programs. There will never be a situation where all teams in a league automatically qualify for the playoffs.
