I got my first look at Maurice Washington III of King's Academy yesterday in a wild DV playoff matchup with Carmel. Yes, I know... Small schools and Carmel hasn't made a name of itself on Defense in several years now, but this kid is as dynamic a back as I've seen in awhile in person. I saw Amir Carlisle play both as a Sophomore and as a Senior, and Washington was much more dominant than Carlisle at either stage. 6'1" 175 as a 15 year old, and just explodes through the line and seams at the 2nd and 3rd level while running well behind his pads and next to untouchable at times with his spin moves and cuts at speed. This kid should have FBS schools all over him by the time he's done, as may also be the case with his teammate, 6'3" freshman qb Michael Johnson.

Sounds like they'll be tough over the next few years with a 1-2 punch. Word of the freshman QB is already getting out to some D1 schools

And almost forgot, their kicker is a talent too, booming kickoffs to the 5 yd line or better each time with height and hang time rarely seen at the HS level. He didn't have any field goal opportunities, but very impressive on kickoffs.

We played TKA last Friday and Washington along with Michael Johnson Jr. looked the part. From what I hear Johnson already has offers from half of the PAC-12 but what else would you expect from a kid who's dad was a Division 1 QB and coached QBs at the Division 1 and NFL Level?

I coached against TKA when Amir Carlisle and later when Booker T. Robinson was there and I can honestly say that Washington is somewhere in between where both those guys were as seniors and he's only a sophomore! It was honestly a game I felt we would have won if it weren't for Washington just being a straight dog. Michael Johnson Jr. was nice too and he will improve drastically as he gets older.
