Here is a preview on the Tcal Stone league. Even though it's not the BVAL or EBAL I hope you guys appreciate an in depth look at the league. I will preview the TCAL-Rock league and other small leagues next.

Albany 6-4(3-3) Head Coach Amer Hawari (2nd season)

Key Loses-FB/MLB Gianni Galaviz, ATH Mario Jones, OL-Russ Trutane, TE/OLB Jalen Palega

Key Returners- RB-Dameon Potts (SR), QB/LB Gianno Rodriguez (JR), C/DL Jamie Trujillo (SR), ATH Jason Wood (SR), WR Owen Ray (SR), ATH Joseph Verdun (SR)

Outlook- Albany must replace stellar athlete Mario Jones and hard hitting 1st team all league LB in Galaviz. Albany also loses the leadership of OL Russ Trutane and Richard Jimenez. Albany will return 15 players from last seasons roster. Albany didn’t have a JV last year but things seem to be headed in the right direction. Albany returns stellar athletes in RB Dameon Potts, ATH Jason Wood and Verdun. Potts a former El Cerrito transfer will be one of the best players in the league. The Cougars also return C Jamie Trujillo who will be a three year starter for them. QB Gianno Rodriguez takes over at QB for Jones but has the starting RB in Potts and the teams three leading WR in Wood, Ray and Verdun to lean on. Wood is also the defensive leader for the cougar’s defense. Albany will be top heavy and could be a contender for the league title!

Bethel 5-5(4-2) Head Coach Jeff Turner

Key Loses- ATH Jacob Sharp, WR/DB Jeremiah Beasley, ATH Jamonte Barrett, MLB/DE Jaytwann Bell, OL/DL Carlos Munz, OL Raven Marchbanks

Key Returners-ATH Sean White (SR), RB Samari White (JR), OL-Marco Gutierrez (SR), OL Jayden Smith (SR), WR/DE Derrick Robinson (SR), OLB-Jeremy Richardson (JR)

Key Newcomers- QB Mal Turner (JR), CB-Simeon Harris (SO), ATH Kevin Ballard (JR)

Outlook-Bethel will have to replace ATH Jacob Sharp who signed with Weber St. Bethel must also replace stud lineman in Marchbanks and Munz. Munz was their team leader and his presence will be missed. This season Bethel will be led by ATH Sean White and “The little engine that could” Samari White. Samari was called up from the JV team and found himself in the starting lineup and produced Immediately for the Jaguars. Robinson will most likely be the guy called upon to replace Sharp and Beasley at WR. Although Sean White took over as QB late last season all signs point towards the JV QB from last year Mal Turner to take over. Turner led their JV’s to a 6-2-2 record last season. OLB Richardson should play a big role defensively along with Sean White. Bethel will be well coached but must replace almost an entire offensive line.

De Anza 6-6(4-2) Head Coach Tyree Redd (4th season)

Key Loses- WR-Christian Posey, QB-Taemon Evans, DE/TE-Demetrists Primes, DL Jazhun Brown, MLB-Rob Shaughnessy

Key Returners- ATH Jalen Henderson (SR), ATH Josiah Vaughn (SR), FB- Durell Willis (SR), CB Jaheem Robinson (SR), OL/DL Chris Mefford (SR), OL/DL Andrew Vesell (SR)

Key Newcomers- QB-Darrion Davis (SR), RB/LB Antoine Huey (SR), RB/ATH Tyler Jules (SO), QB/WR Samuel Thayer (JR)

Outlook- De Anza is LOADED!!! Let me repeat LOADED! De Anza will have to replace 3 year starting Qb in Evans but inherited a soon to be 3 year starting Qb from John Swett in Darrion Davis. Davis is by far one of the top 3 pure athletes in the league. The other two…ATH Jalen Henderson and Josiah Vaughn both whom scored over 20 touchdowns a piece last year and factor in Davis pretty much was responsible for every John Swett point last year the Dons will be explosive. Also factor in RB/LB Antoine Huey (Hercules best player) and you get my point. Defensively De Anza loses Brown and Primes upfront and LB Shaughnessy but still have Mefford and Vesell to plug the middle with Huey and Willis leading the charge at LB. De Anza will be strong in the secondary with some combination of Vaughn, Robinson, Davis, Jules, and team leader and D1 prospect Jalen Henderson. On paper the dons are the league favorite but previously haven’t lived up to expectations the last three seasons. This year could be their year.

Pinole Valley 10-1 (6-0) Head Coach Luke Baldwin (8th season)

Key Loses- QB Demari Davis, RB-Teonnie Johnson Jr, QB/SS-Arshawn Hopkins, OL-Raven Richardson, WR/DB- D’Andre Gaines, LB-Kameron Napoleon

Key Returners-QB-Eli Mercer-Hursh (SR), FB/DE- Gary Hendrix (SR), WR/DB Jeremy Francisco (SR), OL- Jeremiah Phillips (SR), OL/DL-Nath Robles (SR)

Key Newcomers-QB-Devon Gordon (SO), K-Horacio Perez (SO), WR-Maurice Savage (SO), ATH Nacarre Turner (JR), OL/DL Diego Pineda (SO)

Outlook- The reigning league champs loses stud QB Demari Davis and OL Raven Richardson to graduation. The Spartans finished the regular season undefeated and lose in the first round of the playoffs to Terra Linda. Late in the season QB Davis broke his ankle against Albany and it exposed a lot of the spartan weaknesses. Defensively losing all league players in Hopkins and Johnson will be tough to overcome for the young Spartans. The Spartans have a QB battle on their hands involving Mercer-Hursh and Gordon. Whoever wins that battle will lean on returning offensive lineman in Philips and Robles. Returning DE Gary Hendrix looks to apply pressure of the edge and one of the top newcomers to the varsity ATH Nacarre Turner looks to be the real deal and the next big thing. Turner and Gordon lead the spartan JV’s to a 6-2-1 record. The Spartans are led by one if not the best coach in the league in Coach Baldwin.

Richmond 2-8(1-5) Head Coach Khalid Elahi (1st season)

Key Loses- QB-Manuel Nava, RB-Joseph Harris, ATH-Brandon Dumay, OL-Quevonte Anderson, Ath-Samuel Sanchez

Key Returners- TE/DE- Chris Moreida (SR), MLB/OL-Adelio Orellana (SR), OL/DL- Jose Martinez(OL/DL)

Key Newcomers-N/A

Outlook- The Oilers biggest lost might not be a player. Coach Odisio who stepped down this offseason poured his heart and soul into this program for the past seven seasons. Coach O spent the past 4 seasons as the varsity coach and the previous 3 as the JV head coach. The Oilers will also have to replace 2017 Offensive MVP of the league ATH Brandon Dumay, also gone is QB-Manny Nava and 6-5 LT-Q.Anderson. Samuel Sanchez was due to take over at QB but has since transferred to Kennedy and is currently not playing football for the eagles. TE-Chris Moreida and two returning O-lineman in Martinez and Orellana would look to lead the way for the Oilers this season. Coach Khalid (former San Pablo Cowboy’s coach) has good numbers showing up to summer ball. He wants to establish a winning culture that Richmond hasn’t seen for a long time. Only time will tell.

John Swett- 1-9(0-6) Head Coach- Derrick Henry Sr

Key Loses-QB/ATH- Darrion Davis, FB/LB- Andrell Cooper, WR/DE- Avion Huff

Key Returners- LB/TE- Jayden Brown (JR), OL/DL- Jacob Coggshall (SR), ATH- Kyle Inprasuth (SR)

Key Newcomers- ATH Gage Coggshall (FR), DE/OL Tenital Purcell (JR)

Outlook- Losing all league Qb Darrion Davis to De Anza might just be the biggest lost in the entire league. Darrion is a tremendous ATH who can play multiple positions at the next level. John Swett looks to makes strides in Coach Derrick’s second season. The Warriors return Jayden Brown and OL Jacob Cogshall along with a dynamic athlete in Inprasuth. The Warriors didn’t field a jv team last season and even though numbers are up they might not field a jv team again this season. The Warriors will be young this season and have to replace nearly all of their offensive production and loses a ton of defensive production in Huff and Cooper. DE Purcell should be able to step in and contribute right away but will even that be enough?

Vallejo- 4-6(3-3) Head Coach Michael Wilson

Key Loses- ATH- T.Y Hunter, RB-Rasheed Reason, OL-Sione Jones, QB-Ivory Jones, LB-Paul Williams, DE/LB Matt York

Key Returners- TE/LB-Pablo Suastequi (SR), OL/DL- Scotty Mahan (SR)

Key Newcomers- ATH- Kyree Reason (JR), ATH Angelo Miller (SO)

Outlook- Coach Wilson and the Redhawks have a ton to replace. Gone is do it all ATH T.Y Hunter. Hunter who was a 1000 yard back last season. The loses of QB Ivory Jones and RB Rasheed Reason will also sting. Upfront Vallejo loses one of the better linemen in the league in Sione Jones. Defensively Matt York (Kennedy transfer) along with Paul Williams are gone and will be a lot to replace. The Redhawks have the luxury of Pablo Suastequi coming back along with lineman Scotty Mahan who is a force of the defensive line returning. Vallejo will welcome Kyree Reason and Angelo Miller solid ATH’S who led their JV team a split league title(Pinole and Bethel) by going 7-1-1 last season. Based on recent 7v7 Vallejo has some solid skills but will have to figure out the QB situation sooner than later.

Wonderful indepth look at a league that has not gotten too much exposure on this board. I know of all these teams but only as a part of large group that might be called the bottom feeders of NorCal. Of course, some of these schools have had exceptional and notable years in their pocket.
Thanks! Hope you continue to give us updates of the TCAL-S league teams throughout 2019.

“Hey De Anza here we go
We’re out there to beat our foe
We love you, proud of you, everyone knows...”

When’s the last time the Dons were PICKED to win league. Could’ve been the Bracelin years.
Took the kids to watch them maybe 15 years ago in NCS when Campo crushed them at “neutral” Miramonte. The obnoxious “Touchdownnnnnnn Cougarzzzz!!” PA guy was lame.

Nice to see them hanging tough after many a sub .500 campaign.

Where did Coach Odisio from Richmond go? Did he retire for good or switch schools?

Yes, Coach Andy Odisio. He has moved on to spend more time with the family. One hell of a coach and even a better man! The kids at Richmond took his leaving hard. When you spend 7 years at a place that doesn’t prioritize football and you don’t have the best athletes to choose from the kids appreciate it more and respects the fact that you care more about them than winning. In this day of age that’s RARE!!!
