Do these Chicago schools (and Taft) have players this year? A couple years ago Simeon and Whitney Young coming out would've been a HUGE DEAL, not so sure now...

Note the 8pm game on 12/22 will actually be University (San Francisco) vs. Oakland HS.

Before coming back to my hometown in 2005, I spent 5 years coaching in Chicago. This is a great group of teams from the Chicago Public League with a very experienced group of very good coaches. Whether they have top talent guys or not, Chicago players always play tough and are tough to defeat. Should be a great two days of games.

went to Rivals and geeked out... Simeon has a 4-star 6-4 shooting guard with quite a few offers, and a 6-7 forward named Ben Coupet who is getting attention of some colleges. Both are seniors. They went 27-3 last year, losing in the 2nd round of the state playoffs to the eventual champ.

Whitney Young has a senior guard named Skyler Nash who is getting some looks... They were 15-11 last year but lost only two seniors.

Curie went 14-7 last year, and have one senior guard named Devin Gage who is getting looks.

Von Steuben was 15-10 last year, can't find any notes of recruited players.

Kenwood has a 6-5 small forward who is getting some looks... They went 16-5 last year.

This was a pretty quick look so I could very well have missed something, but based on this thumbnail sketch I'd say Simeon should be VERY good, the rest at least slightly above average in a basketball hotbed. translation: quite good.

Should be a solid show, and at Haas Pavilion, no less... Anyone on this forum who hasn't been to Haas Pavilion should try to make a point of getting to games there, either this event or any other. Fantastic spot to watch hoops!

This is a really fun pre-Christmas event. Any insight on how it got set up?

Simeon has a 70-56 win over Seattle power Rainier Beach this year... Rainier's only loss.

Oakland Tech may be the best team of the North teams why are they playing so early? They beat O'dowd by over 30 in a scrimmage and have only gotten better they should have switched their time and had a later game for them.

I'm stuck home sick, watching on the Cube... Tech looked great against St. Joe's. 71-59 final, but game was nowhere near that close.

A very long and rather athletic Kenwood of Chicago is blowing out Oakland HS... 43-21 end of 3. Hasn't been too fun to watch.

Interesting... Ben Kone not starting for Mitty v. Simeon...

He gets inserted into the game to start the 2nd Q. But it's 20-6 Simeon.

I watched the Bishop O"Dowd game and was totally in shock by the bad basketball. The point guard for O"Dowd should be playing for And One because every play he made had to be fancy with a turnover!!!

Watching these chicago teams shows how easily we throw around the word "elite" with bay area kids.....lol. None of the Chicago teams had any "elite" 5 star prospects (definately some D1 kids though) and the games weren't close. Chi town kids played harder, faster and with a greater awareness than the bay kids overall. Mitty moved the ball well, but didnt have the same talent Simeon did. Turnovers were in abundance as the full court press was very effective as well

Doodie... i wouldnt agree with you more. The chicago kids played hard, shared the ball, and really looked like a team. All the kids wearing the same shoes! (Yes that does mean something - team). Our kids over-dribbling, taking plays off, taking ill-advised shots, and then not getting back on d. With the coaches still leaving the kids in the game. I was also impressed with the multiple presses the chicago schools displayed, and there rotations in the full court.

Watch out guys!!! Your sounding like haters!!! Demanding kids to share, run back AND rotate on D, and not go 1 on 1? I would transfer my kid from your program yesterday. With all those demands, where's the room to showcase my child's individual talent?

- many parents

I think the match ups were horrible! Why take the best OAL team(Tech) and play them against St.Joes? Tech was probably the best local team on the docket and yet you have them play at 12 noon! If this was an OAL event why not have your best at least 2 teams play games near the end of the event? My last 4 games would have had Fremont, Mitty, Bishop O'Dowd with Tech as the last game versus the Chicago teams.

To clarify Coach Kennedy sat Ben out a quarter due to a doctors appt conflicting with Monday practice.
