Nothing showcases the dire straits of the Pac 12 quite as much and as clearly as the Nielsen lists of what are called Designated Market Areas. They measure the number of TV sets in a particular region of the U.S. Here are the DMA's for the five big-time college athletic leagues:

Big 10 (with USC and UCLA), 34 million; ACC, 28.6 million; SEC (with Texas and Oklahoma), 22.4 million; Big 12 (sans Texas and Oklahoma), 15.1 million; Pac 12 (sans USC and UCLA), 12.4 million.

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that the Pac 12 has a problem. A big problem.

I think the Pac 12 schools should be looking for life rafts instead of saving their own boat. As colhenry noted, Pac-12 is bringing scissors to a gun fight with the remaining 10 schools.

Big12 and MWC look like the best bets for remaining schools.Unless the can pull a couple teams from the Big12 it looks bad.

PAC 12 wanted "parity " within the conference, instead of national relevance. Parity preference led to conference mediocrity. This is the result.
