Thoughts on Mission Viejo - Bellarmine Game?

SpongeBob SquarePants vs Yoda. I will be surprised if Bells' Force will overtake the little devils of undersea city Bikini Bottom. But then Yoda's Force closed the iron gates of the dog pound last week. So Maybe...

i will say this, its pretty quiet on the forum about Bellamine vs mission viejo on socalpreps.com

Mission Viejo looks like a very good socal team. Not a Centennial, St John Bosco or a DLS, but they look very good and maybe right at the next level. Big, strong, fast, disciplined and excellent lines Impressive defense: Their d-line really sticks out. Big and fast. Carter Hartmann, 6-3, 265 , 3 star, committed to Harvard looks more than a 3 star. Big, extremely strong and very fast for his size. Linebackers look good and DBs very disciplined as look fast. O-line is big and strong. Zack Aylor, 6-4, 295, several offers. Michigan and Cornell. RB is very fast but smaller and more quick and slashing. Gets to the edge well but runs well behind big line. QB Brock Johnson (grandson of the head coach known for grooming QBs) looks like a prototype college player. He throws really well down field and sees open receivers well. Impressive QB and MV receivers are realtively big 6-0,6-2 and quick and run really disciplined routes. QB throws really well down field - laser arm and accurate and seems to throw down field alot.

MV offense isn't as wide open as Folsom but I think MV may be better on defense and they do spread it out as well on offense. Their QB is very good and offensive line is very good. This is going to be a tough matchup for Bellarmine. On Bells side is MV travels farther and game is on a Friday and I'm sure they don't see the double wing in southern CA often and sure they haven't seen it this year. Bells will need to have a similar game plan to win this game as Folsom. I think the Folsom offense may be more explosive, but the MV team looks like they can both wear down good teams and also strike fast when they need to. In any event, this game looks like it could be very good game. One thing I notice though is this MV team is extremely strong and physical and concern of wearing down Bells. Will come up with a projection later. I do think Bells can match up as far as speed and covering down field. Bells will be underdogs again, but if they play their game could very well be in this one and a good game. MV probably would be 2-3 best team if they played in the tough Trinity league.

They got it started on SoCal this afternoon. Making more fun of the "Bells" name vs any real substance.

NorCalSportsFan was the only posting with any substance.

Hope Bells pull this off. MV is a pretty tough team. They played a pretty tough schedule and are undefeated.

Good luck Bells!

What are your thoughts?
There is no contest in this one. Quite frankly I can tell by the silence on this board that the Norcal homers are all afraid! Last week there was lots of chest thumping from the sacramento area fans who assumed Folsom would handle the Bella fellas. Now that their team is out they have run and hidden . God Bless Rodney? PGWhitney? I can only say this there is a Diablo firestorm coming north. There is no team in Northern California that will be able to contain the size speed and athleticism of this team. There was a lot of talk last week about the speed and athleticism but this week there is no contest or controversy. The Diablo's will win this game 35 -10. Southern California football support superiority will be proven without a doubt Friday night. There's a prediction that everyone else up there is afraid to make!
Welcome to Hell.

Very unwise to underestimate Bellarmine. But go ahead. Overconfidence is welcome. Chest-thump by all means. We'll see what actually happens on the field.

Yo Pablo. See you in pergatory.

That's a pretty cute tag line, "Welcome to Hell."

While I am rooting for the Bells, my gut tells me this is where it ends. In a gut wrenching loss in State Finals, I have Diablos 35-28. I see Diablos using their size ability in a run game featuring pulling guards, tosses & sweeps to stretch out the smaller bellarmine defense and wear them down. I do see the Double Wing working it's thing in the 1st half but Diablo adjustments limit the Bells to one touchdown in the second half. Bells experience in State Finals doesn't favor them well either.

Bells will also have to commit their speedster DB's to run support and this will open up passing game.

The lit'l devils wins by a 25 point margin? No. I hope the Bells win - And I don't mind being wrong like last week, but I think SpongeBob SquarePants pulls out the win over Yoda in the last few minutes of the game. MV wins by 7 hard-fought points over BCP.

I agree Diablos won't win this by 25+, the Bells 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense just doesn't allow offenses enough opportunities to get on the field, unless your a prolific high-octane offense like Folsom or DLS.

Lol hmm ive only seen a few people use the signature tag line. And one of them always wanted to force predictions out of people.

I think MV is by far more talented but never underestimate Bells. The Johnson family are great coaches. Its obviously easy to underestimate BCP. They arent the biggest team. They dont run an offense that displays how athletic they are. For some reason though they never disappoint. My guess is that this game will be how a lot of us thought the Folsom game was going to go. Close first half as MV adjusts to BCP offense and tempo but then will pull away in the 2nd half. MV 38-Bells 24.

I would say the reason people are quiet is we dont all know as much about the southern teams as we did the north. We could talk about almost every norcal team but only a few of us have actually seen the south teams.

Thanks for the prediction. I do think the Bella fellas double wing is gonna take some getting used to but our coaches and athletes will adjust.

I respect that there may be less familiarity with the SoCal teams but there seems to be plenty of info on the Centennial /SJB group. What gives? The Diablos are not far off. Looking forward to bringing the heat to El Norte!

Welcome to Hell.

The Bells will stand tall against the mighty giants from MV! They won't back down - their athleticism across the board helps them always find a way to compete - this game will not be lopsided and looking for the Bells to pull it off!

Any thoughts on weather conditions? Looks like its gonna be wet. May slow down the passing.....Diablos will bring some heat!

Welcome to Hell.

Not sure what you really mean here - but I think MV's offense is better than Folsom's offense. They appear to control the LOS a little better than Folsom and they have some really fast receivers. Brock Johnson is a good pocket QB with lots of protection and can scramble when needed. The real question is how well can the MV defense handle the near scrum-style of the Bells d-wing.

What a great match up this will be. If MV has success vs the DW, the Bells can throw it really well. In that case the Bells defense will impact the O considerably. This Bells D line is not as good as the 2011 unit but the 2015 LB's and secondary are really good. Love those tough, hard hitting backers Bergstrom and Burrill.

If the Bells secondary can tackle and cover as well vs MV as they did vs Folsom, Janda will have a better chance to play ball control when they have the ball.

Anyone have any intel on tailgating at Sac State? Parking lots? Info greatly appreciated by the Diablos.

Welcome to Hell.

I assume tailgating will be available at Hornet Stadium. There is plenty of parking in the lots next to the Stadium so that won't be a problem - just don't know what Sac. State will allow or not. Weather so far this week has seen a cold north wind making it feel colder than it actually is. It's supposed to rain Friday/Saturday so the cloud cover will actual cause it to warm up some. I'd expect high 40s/low 50s for game time possibly with rain.

This should be a very competitive game. Interested to see how each bounces back after hard fought wins in the regional.

Really looking forward to this one

Word is Zack Aylor is out (left regional in 4th and taken to hospital with "leg" injury). Could make a difference on the line........Go Diablos.

Is this the kid that has offers from Michigan and Cornell. I thought I read he was All-State. I see he is an Ot but does he also play DT as well? That could be a big loss for them. Tough break for him.

Bum deal for the kid... You know how badly he would want to be in this state bowl game.

The more I watch MV the more I like Bell's in this game. This is a toss up game to me.

"He who turns over the ball less, wins." (Socrates? Confucius? Plato?)

My prediction on a MV win is starting to tilt more in favor of Bells now. Mostly because of the expected rain later and how wet conditions make it difficult to stop the Double Wing. The rain will also neutralize some of MV's passing attack--which was the major reason I chose MV > Bells. Also, no offense to MV's running game but it doesn't appear to feature dynamic running backs with much break away ability.

I hope you are a kid because if you aren't, u are one sad F living vicariously through kids. Northern California won four out of five games on Socal turf last year. How's that working for you?

This was interesting quote by Johnson in prep2prep.com article - http://prep2prep.com/feature.aspx?ArticleID=8204

“They’re a little similar to De La Salle so we’re planning for what they do. We’re just going to play our brand of football the best we can and see what comes out,” continued the 70-year old Johnson, who joked about not being too keen on a 19-hour bus trip, LA traffic, or the rain he heard was due on Friday in Sacramento.

I think he's be being facetious about the 19-hour bus trip, but wondering when they left for the game. Definitely a long bus trip can have some impact.

Funny we have not heard one word about travel for 9 years in the Bowl games... suddenly it is now being discussed...

Actually no - I can't remember the team - I think either Centennial or LB Poly a few years ago complaining about the traffic. They were moderately late when their 30 minute to 45 minute normal traffic took about an hour. It was one of the reasons SoCal fans cited as contributing to their loss. LOL

there are no rules in the SS for transfers. A player played for 3 different teams in the same season last year in the SS.
