We are entering a natural break for club basketball following the Memorial Day Tournaments, so who does everyone think are the top NorCal teams this year? Most of the focus is on the 17s, but also good to hear about 15s and 16s too.

Soldiers are the top program in the area for years. Arsenal beat lakeshow & soldiers. WCE beat Arsenal so it’s all up in the air.
soldiers still good? which one, i see so many teams. also any idea what happened to soldier town gym?

Saw Soldiers 15u team this weekend and can’t imagine another 15u team out there with that much talent and cohesiveness. John Tofi and Fale Malepeai have that team humming on all cylinders

The AAU scene has continually changed over the last few years. Many new teams and motives seem to have changed. The SOLDIERS name used to carry weight to it. Now they have opted to have 50 teams as opposed to 6 to 8 elite level teams as they did in the past. West Coast Elite is one of the stronger programs with multiple teams in different cities. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! The more kids in the program, the more money the individuals that run it, generate.

Its too bad. Back in the day guys used to give back to the game & try to help kids with talent get to the next level for free. Just because. The objective was to try to keep the costs down so the kids could get out to different tournaments to be seen. Now like everything else its money, money, money. You got any and everybody trying to train kids. In many cases, people that never even played the game themselves (which is a whole nother issue itself). Its just gotten out of hand in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I get it. Everyone is chasing the money. But making money off the kids should be off limits to a certain extent (with exceptions like organized camps, etc.). So in my opinion, teams like the San Francisco Rebels, Team California, or the East County Hornets are some of the better programs as well. These are teams that are competing with all of these other big name programs, but they are trying to keep the costs down & get exposure for the kids! Because that's what it should all be about, the KIDS!

Moses have you ever read the book Sole Influence, sole meaning the bottom of the sneaker. If not you should read it, gives plenty of insight on the inner workings of money in the AAU system

East county Hornets? Who have they put into college? Oakland soldiers West coast elite lakeshow has been putting kids into college.

I don’t see where this is going?

Guthrie I agree 100%. It don't matter if you play for the West Coast Elite or the Emeryville Badgers.... It ain't all about the AAU team.
