W.C. Wood wasted no time running over Alhambra as the defense bottled up the Bulldogs and the offense opened up their passing game and took advantage of Alhambra's pass defense weakness.

W.C. wood.....06 14.....15.....42
Alhambra.......00.....03.....00.....03

to begin with, all kickoff's had no returns and the offense began at the receiving point.... Wood had a tough time running and carried the 15 times for 59 yards, but the passing game was a different story as Wood went to the air 28 times and hit 16 for 238 yards...there were only two penalties for 10 yards, no punts and no fumbles and 13 first downs. The Wildcats hit on passes of 20,22,27,21,23,14,30 as the high lites.
For Alhambra, it was a poor showing as the ground game ran 21 times for only 54 yards and thru 17 passes for 79 yards..There were two penalties for 20 yards, one fumble, the Bulldogs punted twice and had only seven first downs.....The Bulldog pass defense is once again their weak spot...
The W.C.JV's.....o7.....06.....o6.....00.....19
Alhambra JV's....00.....06.....00.....06.....12

Is Wood that good, and Alhambra was overmatched, or were these problems that can be fixed by Alhmbra in the next week or two? Obviously this is just a scrimmage, so you have to take it with a grain of salt, but still, that's a big margin.

37 yards & a cloud of Dust.....The Bulldog QB was under throwing and over throwing his passes, there was one pass that connected for 30 yards which was the big deal for the day....The Bulldog pass defense still needs some one to teach defense...The defense was giving up too much space, making it easy for the Wood QB to make his connections....The Wood defense did not give up hardly any room for Alhambra's running backs to gain ground....The Wood defense handled Alhambra, this was the same defense that gave up so many points last year, so the wildcat defense has come of age....The bright spot for Alhambra's running game was a 13 yard run by Soph. Boyd....If its a lack of desire by the line, its hard to say, but Alhambra needs some serious work to be done before they meet College Park next Friday...But I think that Wood is that good.....

To my eyes it looks like Will C has really matured into a solid team. They simply just came ready to play and not sure if Alhambra did. As you mentioned their pass defense was lacking, but their run defense was solid. Their offense looked good for a drive, but after that the o-line seemed to be confused. We'll see how well they do against a CP team that looked very crisp at the Miramonte scrimmage

Based on CalPreps, Wood returns 18 starters. Building momentum for Wood.

While at the Alhambra-Wood Scrimmage the parents at Wood were commenting that these kids on todays team have been playing together since Pop warner...Also one other thing, three times on four and long, Alhambra chose to run and each time it backfired giving Wood real good field position which led to three TD's, now if Alhambra would have punted, I don't think it would have made any difference.
Now Wood has a Soph. QB who stands about 6-1 and about 180 and this kid has a real arm, but will be a back up but should see action in the games to come.
Also, the stadium for Wood has been approved so work should start next year, the field will be right at Peabody and there should be plenty of parking.
The Alhambra JV QB shows real ball handling with good deception and good speed, so this kid should bloom....

Wow, 18 starters that sure is impressive and of no surprise to me. Will be curious to how the Monticello Empire standings end as Napa and Vaca High will be good challenges for Will C

Just in awe with all them returning players....I believe they played for the AYF Vacaville Bengals (whom are nationally ranked)....the Vacaville-WCW Game should be a good one....
