Going back in forth with a friend on which league is better/stronger. I personally think EBAL is the best league around and by adding Dublin and DV next year makes the league even stronger. I dont know the stats and I could be wrong but EBAL teams seem to do better in NorCal playoffs than WCAL teams at least recently.

Curious to hear others opinion.

I like both leagues. Historically the WCAL was the standard bearer. Having said that, the EBAL, despite the reach of De LaSalle, draws mostly from its own area, is extremely competitive and game/fan atmosphere by in large must better. Other than the Bruce-Mahoney Game (SI/SHC@USF), the city schools just dont draw the crowds any longer. Too many distractions for kids from San Francisco and San Jose. The EBAL with Dubliin, will be even stronger. IMO.

Both are very good leagues. The EBAL, with the exception of Livermore, is comprised of all D1 teams, while the WCAL has a number of lower division teams. Adding Dougherty and Dublin (both D1 and playing very well this year) into the EBAL next year will make it stronger. Having said that, aside from DLS I think the top WCAL teams are just as strong or stronger than the EBAL. Throw out Livermore and Valley Christian and you've got a lot of competitive teams. Monte Vista and SRV have slipped some this year, but DLS is probably the top dog out of both leagues and Foothill has improved. I would love to see a competition between these two leagues with teams playing each other all day if someone could get that organized.

Top 2 leagues in the Bay Area. The leagues seems to trade off each season on who is the strongest. EBAL would have the edge this season.

Historically, WCAL teams Mitty, Riordan, SHC, and St. Francis have State titles. Serra & SI have also made NorCal and State Finals in the past.

For what it's worth, the crowds at cramped Serra, for the most part, are raucus, large and animated during most of the WCAL season. A solid home-court advantage.

I think this is a year to year discussion and can change. This year, I think the best team from these two leagues is De La Salle, but the depth is better in the WCAL. How Monte Vista turns out could sway this discussion.
