The latest WCAL football schedule is more like a cry for help than anything else. It's a three-game affair that begins on March 26-27 and ends on April 16-17. The league is divided in half, north and south, and each school in each division will play the others once. So, three games. No non-league games. No round robin. No playoffs. Three games. That's it. Sad. And even those three contests may not be played. The virus and state/county authorities will dictate what happens. Practice is supposed to start March 1. A drop dead date of March 15 to get this deflated ball rolling is listed. The clock is ticking and midnight is fast approaching, at least for football.

If I'm a senior already signed/committed to a D1, at this point why risk injury and put on the unnecessary miles on my tires? Its too bad the '20 and '21 classes suffered. Sports will come back soon enough.

I dont think Serra gains anything meaningful playing SH, Riordan and SI.

I give it 5% chance of happening. If schools aren't opening completely, it isn't happening. It is a lost season and year of school for many. Tragic disgrace.

Hopefully they will get a few games but not counting on it/. Looks like Palma started practice today (I know not WCAL but looks like many still hope to get a few games in).

In my book, Palma is an honorary member of a mythical, expanded, football-only WCAL along with The King's Academy, Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo School. OK. Maybe these long, lonely pandemic-infused nights have dulled the ancient cerebrum to the point of wacky irrelevance. But a 12-team, two-division, football-only arrangement for the WCAL still seems to make some sense in the future. Palma, Bellarmine, St. Francis, Valley Christian, Mitty and Serra in the South; the rest would be in the North. Go, Chieftains.

Why can’t Marin Catholic be part of this mythical expanded Northern Division:( lol

Since the season is already Helter skelter bass ackwards............
How about a temporary COVID Catholic league and throw in some East Bay teams ?
Good call. LOL Palma lately is in middle of the pack WCAL but this season there was some intrigue with this team. Next season will have a few good players but line won't be close to this season which could have been its best in many years.

I was hoping to see Salinas High play San Ramon Velley in Danville this season as well. Have to wait untill next season and wonder if it will be in Salinas. There may be problems with some schools playing outside of their counties if the shot season happens. Got to say these kids are the ultimate optimists practicing in the ice cold at 6:30 am before school starts.

If the season is extended to May 1, then 5 to 7 games are possible. Lots in flux now should know more this week from the State. One thing for sure is the predictable is not predictable

Just some thoughts to add.
When I read your post the thought hit me, What happens to DLS? Who will they play? Is it time for them to join the WCAL?

Here's wishing you great football.

The farther out football is extended into the calendar, the more likely it is that the 2021 season will have to be shortened or playoffs restricted. Rest and recovery time is critical for teen football players. There are liability issues involved too. One more note: Football should not be the tail that wags the statewide prep sports dog. It's one (boys) sport among many (boys and girls).

Who wants to compare Texas to California ?
California is almost the exact antitheses to Texas.

Reminds me of a quote my 1st boss, from Wyoming once said while sitting in his truck outside of Frisco, Colorado while waiting for a highway crash to be cleared during a blizzard. He said:
Texans are a different breed. There once was a study of last words uttered by drivers before a fatal collision (as reported by survivors of those crashes)
The #1 saying in most states was "Oh f#+k or Oh sh#t" but in Texas, it was "Hey y'all, check this out!"

Depends. Cities like Austin given influx of people from tech industry is very much like the Bay area. Parts of CA are also similar to TX and vice versa. My close friend from the Bay area that moved to Dallas a couple years ago did say people seem to be nicer drivers with zero road rage since there is a a great probably the other driver is packing a gun. CA should probably be three states given the differences in areas of its populations.
