The game of the week is at Antioch as Rancho Cotate 2-0 invades Panther country 3-0, but there are also other big games as Logan 3-0 meets CVC 2-1, California 1-1 travels to Liberty 2-1 and Campolindo 3-0 takes on Napa 3-0 and St. Mary's of Albany1-2 visits Bishop O'Dowd 1-1.
On Sat. we are going to see El Cerrito host Amador Valley at DeAnza High.....El Cerrito is 1-2 but the W/L record doesn't tell the whole story.....EC lost to Sutter 28-21 and slugged it out with Inderkum, but went down 37-34 and then ripped Oakland 60-6 while Amador Valley is at 1-1 with a wild loss to Freedom.

Salesian 2-0 At Piedmont 2-1.....Piedmont 20 Salesian 13.....The High Landers took a beating from Moreau Catholic to the tune of 55-9, so we will see if they can get back on the winning trail.

Rancho Cotate 2-0 at Antioch 3-0.....Rancho Cotate 41 Antioch 27......Passing teams can score in record time and RC has the combination of Mefford to Yamanha which is real dangerous plus a quick moving line against one of the states best runners in Naggie Harris who has a big line to open up lanes. Who ever makes the most mistakes losses...
Freedom 2-1 at San Leandro 0-3.....Freedom 32 San Leandro 20......Freedom has to be careful and can't give up the points they did against Amador Valley as the Pirates were able to hold Antioch to 26, but were only able to score 3, should be a good test for Falcons...
Pittman0-2 (Turlock) at deer valley 1-1.....Pittman 30 Deer Valley 20.....Those two losses by Pittman don't tell you the whole story while Deer Valley was able to score 29 against Campolindo, but gave up 42....Again a new coach has pumped new life into a team so the wolverines may surprise us....

mshNASTY....Heritage had a hard time with Acalanes but they got the job done, what is on my mind is how College Park scored 32 points on Pinole valley...either they were lucky or they finally found a way to score........Now CP has some speed and size, but just maybe they may be coming of age....We will find out after the meeting with Heritage.

Tenario, formerly of Encinal, is a very good coach and has some unique schemes on both sides of the ball. As athletic as PV is they aren't even close to the physicality of a BVAL team. Maybe I jumped the gun on blow out but I'd think at least a 17.5 point spread for a Heritage. By just looking at their opponents and scores on MaxP they both seem to show up one week and lay an egg the next. 35-14 Heritage IMO... Keep up the great work on your weekly predictions, I look forward to them every week!

Liberty gave Cal a good game in their 2nd round NCS playoff matchup last season, losing 35-24 after putting a scare into the Grizz early. Can they get over the hump tomorrow playing at home with a boistrous homecoming crowd? This one promises to be a good game. Cal needs to get some BVAL revenge after having been shut out by Pitt in week 1 and Liberty needs to show up against a quality team after having coughed up a big lead in Chico 2 weeks ago. Not much was gained by these 2 teams blowing out Berkeley and Kennedy. This game will tell us a lot about both teams.

Unknown To Mankind......I seriously thought of using the California-Liberty game as the game of the week as they had a hard fought game last year....But Antioch-Rancho-Cotate game has a strong running game in Antioch and a dangerous passing attack plus a ground gainer in Bo Ward...I saw Mefferd and Taylor-Yamagha at work last year at the Alhambra game and the Las Lomas meet, plus the hard running of Bo Ward and I was swayed...earlier last year I watched Harris run against Freedom and this guy has to be the best running back in northern Calif. I don't think there will be any love lost in the California-Liberty game....

I was at last years Cal/Liberty game and I gotta say Liberty had some of the best fans I've ever met and they completely filled the visitors stands at Ernie Berger Stadium. I don't think I've seen that since the Cal/DLS game from 2010? The dude Liberty had last year that was grease lightning fast kept them in that game. I can't remember his name. Same guy also dropped a few passes or that game could have gone the other way. I suspect Liberty will enjoy a team speed advantage over the Grizzlies again this year?

Yes. It's a complete joke with EBAL going to a 10 team league next year. It's unfair to the BVAL too, they will have to go play teams outside of the section. There's probably 15 BVAL EBAL games yearly that are getting better and better. Unfortunate that the EBAL commissioner is doing this disservice to High school football in this area.

Thought it was just "We Lift", meaning you wore out because we work harder, but you could be right, meaning is the same.
Liberty should be prepared, a lot of Cal players were on the Real Neal 7 on 7 team, Mike was also at our last game.
Scheduling Pittsburgh, Liberty and DLS all on the road is brutal!

Willie Williams, best player we faced last year, too bad his grades weren't better.
This years team actually has lots of speed, not quite the size we've had in past.

I've been pretty vocal about my frustration with the 10 team EBAL vote on these forums. You're right on to point out the cause and affect it will have on other leagues and teams in the NCS like the BVAL, Logan, San Leandro and Castro Valley amongst others. In the end if DLS gets the opt clause they're they only winners in this thing as usual. If there is no opt out I heard ESPN is going to show the battle between between the Spartans and the Cowboys of Livermore... What a shame they turned this once great league into.

I haven't seen either of them this year. Something has gone awry at Cal...not sure what to make of it? I am just making a prediction based on what I saw of Liberty last year. They seem to have some talented Seniors this year. I have no clue what Cal's bright spot is? After seeing some punishing Cal teams the last 3 years they are just not the same this year.

It must have been the leg pressing. Great job by the Grizz tonight on the road. They showed they may still be in the mix for a 4th consecutive EBAL title, 5th consecutive if you remove the 4 years DLS was in the league. The 28-0 loss to Pitt was bad, but it was actually a much closer game than the score indicated, and the Grizz D actually did a good job that night. Glad to see the O now in synch.

Two of the haters pick Cal to win EBAL, we seem to be opening it up and our D is really solid. Even listening to teachers and parents talk about Pitt. game, you'd thought we were wiped out, not the case.
Seniors are really good when all are healthy, Juniors are a special class.....
