Sophomore JJ Hernandez takes the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown as Sierra Canyon regains the lead at 21-20.
Outside of two plays (80 yard TD run, 95 yard KO return), Serra has really controlled this game
And yet they are losing. So far all three games have had a familiar ring to them
HS kicker should be able to try a 44 yarder with 4 seconds left rather than go for it on 4th and 20.
If you are watching the game the announcers pointed out that Serra is using a freshman as their kicker. In early games Serra had no kicker who could make a PAT consistently & so brought up a 14-year old off the frosh team. As it is he missed the 3 TD PAT which has Serra behind by a point.
So no, a 44-yard FG try was out of the question.
On play near end with Sierra Canyon QB throwing ball up to celebrate - the refs said Serra had an illegal substitution and the SC players onto the field was unsportsmanlike penalty and the 2 offset each other. What about the lineman who caught the ball thrown up in the air - wasn't he an illegal receiver?
If so that would've given Serra one more play at around the 30. Anyone else catch that?
Do coaches at the high school level not realize special teams are a huge part of the game. Work on them (all year). Seems to possibly be the difference in a championship for a few teams this weekend. There's 3 parts to the game and if you are only good at 2/3 you might be in trouble against good opponents.
Honestly thought the kid who caught it was #16, but I already deleted it from DVR so I am not sure. If Pawlawski said a lineman caught it then I'd bet it was probably a receiver or back who caught it.
Doesn't matter, if your banking on a call from the refs to give you a shot you don't deserve it. Had plenty of game to make plays to change the result and didn't get it done.

I thought it was #16 who caught the ball too.
The kicks were blocked, he didn't miss them wide or short. That's a line issue, not an issue with the kicker. The frosh kicker was very good this year.
It was #16 and he came from off the bench to catch the ball.
