The Panthers are 9-2, 7-1 in the PAL Bay Division after defeating Hillsdale, 5-3, Friday in San Mateo. Burlingame, allowing 2.1 runs per game in league play, has a leg up on the PAL competition so far in 2019. Menlo and Carlmont are in pursuit.

With all due respect, VC is at a different level compared to PAL teams. VC is one of NorCal's outstanding units; same goes for the state at large. The VC program is something else right now. As it has in football, the VC entrance into the WCAL has elevated baseball in that circuit. Football and baseball: The two VC signature boys' sports.

They are on a solid 3 year run for sure, however there isn’t a team in the WCAL that can’t beat VC this year except maybe Riordan. LG is solid, Los Altos has an impressive record, Santa Cruz, Wilcox, Leland, PA, can all beat VC. CCS is going to be a grind. Love to see a threepeat, but it won’t be easy by any means. Too many good teams.

I agree VC has elevated the WCAL, but the WCAL has definitely elevated VC. It also helps have great coaches. Diatte is one of the areas best, and Machado/Scharrenberg are a great combo. The VC football program took a noticeable dive when Scharrenberg took a couple of years off as D-coordinator.
