It's been a Gold Country fixture for generations. The December boys' basketball tournament at Placer High School, named in the memory of Kendall Arnett, has marked 81 iterations on the Auburn campus. Beginning in 1943 during World War II, the event is the oldest of its kind in Northern California. Fortunately for those interested in prep sports history, the affair is still conducted in the ancient Earl Crabbe Gymnasium, a venerable structure that hearkens back to a different era. It's "Hickory High School" and "Hoosiers" brought to life. Visiting that facility is a walk back in time. Fabulous stuff.

I agree on all counts, having been to that wonderful old gym a couple of times this season. I'd been wanting to go there for a few years, having seen games on YouTube. The place lived up to all I expected and more.
