PAL tourney semifinal score: Sequoia 49 , HMB 40. Cherokees will play Mills for the tournament title Saturday at 7:30 at Mills.

Sequoia's defense was very good; held HMB to under 30% shooting. HMB did miss several close range shots and Nuno did not shoot well at all. Seqouia was in control most of the game, leading by 9 at the half. HMB made a little run to cut it to 4 at one point, but an end of the shot clock banked in three by LeBlanc was the final dagger.

Should be a good game tomorrow night, but Mills will need another hot shooting night from Matsuno (7 3s and 23 total points) to get the win.

Sequoia "D" was ok at best... HMB just could not buy a bucket, they were getting pretty much what they wanted and good looks but nothing would fall! The Big man for sequoia is legit, he is someone to look out for in the future as he is only a freshman!

Hats off to sequoia for pulling off the upset though. They will be a tough out in Div. 1. HMB on the other hand will have to regroup and focus if they want to do any damage in the open, that is if they are selected after these tough 2 losses.

Coarch Forslund gets a ton of well deserved kudos on this board from what he did at Riordan and now at HMB, but perhaps Mill's Rick Hanson *also* gets as much out of his troops as any Prep Hoops Coach on the Peninsula.

IMO the HMB bench is deeper than the way he uses it but I also gather that some of his bench falls into the tight sphincter category when adversity faces the Cougars. Not sure when Tommy Nuno had "just" six points....what happened to the Coastside's legendary AAU star in Jake Salinero - is he still having dribbling issues or shooting issues?

Coach Forslund can be quite the quipster but they usually go over the heads of the media/social media. Several years ago he made a movie reference aka "dumb and dumber" and very few got his sense of humor. I see this time he commented on the "The bank 3? I thought, 'Well, this one's over," - and "we were right there".

No props given by the HMB Coach to the Sequoia Hoops squad?

HMB vs. SEQ

Gotta disagree about Sequoia's "D", it was more than ok. HMB had to use a lot of the shot clock to get what you are saying is the shot they wanted. However, if HMB hits half of those missed close range shots it is a different game. Either team could have won this game, but give credit to Sequoia for making HMB look very uncomfortable at times. Will say that HMB hits the O boards well.

Totally agree on Sequoia's big man, he plays more experienced than a freshman and will only get better. I would say that he looks like a D1 prospect at this point.

Lets keep it real. They played a Hostess schedule in League (through no fault of their own) and got soft. You dont get ready for the post season dining on cupcakes. Unless the team is superior in talent its tough to be ready dining on twinkies and snoballs. That said, hoping for a Riordan vs HMB first round matchup if HMB can still get into the Open and Riordan slides in their too. The Dr vs RB, lots of storylines for that matchup!

Sequoia's "OK defense at best" led them to the PAL title tonight defeating Mills. Sequoia led by as many as 16 late in the game but Mills made it very close at the end despite all-everything Marquis Adkins fouling out with 6 minutes left to play. In fact, if not for the timekeeper falling asleep with under a minute to go (play ran for 10 seconds before the refs realized the clock was not running) Mills may have made the remarkable comeback. Brandon Matsuna hit a long distance 3 a split second after the whistle was blown to stop play and get the clock taken care of. It cost Mills a timeout, 10 seconds, and 3 points that would have cut the deficit to 2.
