Is Riordan Football News Worthy during @TheOffSeason

Wish Sheldon still had LoLo , John and Tommie. Would have put the football and hoop teams at another level. Congrats to him

Tommy Tofi has a chance to be one of the best offensive lineman to ever come from the sf Bay Area. He is huge. A monster. And extremely athletic for his build.

Kinda reminds me of Michael Oher in terms of athleticism, size and build.

Now question is will he go the way of a David Baktiari and have a HOF NFL career….OR will be go the way of a Matt Summers-Gavin, who was a highly rated OL recruit, who unfortunately never reached potential due to knee injuries.

Or will he be like Sonoma States Larry Allen…..

Only time will tell….

Congrats to Lolo! such a great story of a kid earning a D1 scholarship with only one year of playing organized football. Kudos to the Riordan coaching staff suggesting he try out for football, participated in the offseason camps, brought in the colleges to practices for exposure, and worked extremely hard both on the field and in the classroom. He also thrived and enjoyed playing alongside his cousins on the team.

Either Way,…don’t you recognize the Opportunity the Student/Athletes has: “IN Front Of Them”

Or are poster So jaded to throw Shade In their Jr year “Of their Future”?

Note: this post IS NOT directed in well wisher TO the accomplishments of students/athletes

There’s a deeper story to be unpacked here. For all the crap Riordan caught for kids flocking to play there their coaching staff just put out a kid who had no business getting out. That’s no slight at the kid, at 6’7 with little football experience I bet the sky is the limit for him. But schools like Serra have linemen with way more film and way more years in their weight lifting program who will graduate with no offers. Says a lot about the work the Riordan staff puts in.

Does Serra have a 6’7” 265 lb. basketball playing senior with no offers? They do not.

They do have a 6’5” 220 TE. He’s going to Tennessee.

…that has been playing football. Where is Rivieccio going? 🤔 Walsh had 4 years with him.

He's listed at 6’3”. Small for a tackle. 6’7” is big for a tackle.

A D1 (FBS or FCS) assistant coach who is out recruiting high schools can’t come back to his HC and tell him he wants to offer a 6’3” 225 tackle. They are told to stay within height and weight guidelines.

6’7” 265 and plays hoops? We’re in business. I think there are a lot of basketball players out there who are short for basketball but would be recruits for football. 6’3” wings who could be safeties, for example.

6’3 is not small for a guard or center though. Riordan played one of their smaller linemen who is just about 6’2 at tackle and he’s being recruited. Why is he in business?

I know nothing about either of these young men other than their height and weight. I do know a bit about what college recruiters look for, and the player from Riordan has it.

@dcpanda,

I don’t hear anyone doubting your knowledge and what you bring to the board (I have consistently found it reliable and true)

I think @LecheDeMiPalo Is quite Eloquently Articulating about IS specifically; How the Coaching Staff of @TheR, sought out the potential of a 6’7” baller who was waisting away in position TYPE Casting in two sports that would not Open Doors for his future.

I get a lot of Grief for my #NewAttitude mantra, but this the best testimony as an example.

Maybe this #tag ? Should be placed before my #NewAttitude at the end of each post!

Riordan, for all of the hype surrounding this team, was really a one-trick pony. In a 7-4 season that ended in disappointing fashion with three losses in its last four games, the offense did indeed move the ball most of the time to the tune of 36 points per game. Which was nice. But, in true feast or famine mode, the Crusaders gave up 30 points per outing. During one forgettable three-game stretch in WCAL action, they permitted a stunning 45 digits per contest to Bellarmine, Mitty and Serra. And that occurred in a year when the league was not operating at its peak (other than Serra, of course). Public schools exposed the WCAL, including Riordan, during the CCS playoffs. Individual offensive stars and gaudy statistics are eye-catching. But, when the football rubber meets the road, Swiss cheese defense (and shaky special teams) usually spell defeat against reasonably decent, well-prepared opponents. That turned out to be the case on Phelan Avenue (oops) in 2023. A lot needs to be fixed next season. It might be wise to turn down the hype machine just a bit. The lessons of 2023 should make that pretty obvious. Lowered expectations just might benefit the Riordan teens.

3 of Riordan’s 4 losses came to teams that played for the CIF State title. The 4th was to St. Francis who lost its best LB in the post season . The Crusaders lost both of its starting LBs for the season early in league, thus its struggles in containing the run. Riordan was in every game but the Serra game. Youth also had a lot to do with its shortcoming and should be cleaned up in the offseason

Serra played for The CIF State Title. The other 2 played in state bowl games.
I stand corrected. Folsom’s amazing last drive tipped St. Bonaventure - one of Riordan’s losses they should have won if not for a special teams lapse.

All of the excuses aside, Riordan's defense and special teams were less than terrific all season long. A lot to clean up.

What’s Bellarmine’s excuse? 1,600 all boys enrollment, great facilities, competent coaches, bottomless endowment fund. Their SF Jesuit brethren appears on the stronger track.

Under Ravipati, 2022: 3-7 w/1 league win; 2023: 7-3, w/4 league wins and playoffs. 2024? Definitely a lot to clean up but trending in the right direction.

Can you make the argument (aside from the fact Riordan lost two starting LB to injury) that as potent as they were offensively, they shouldve have been as potent defensively? You dont put up those points and yards with nobodys. So what Im getting at is those players on the offensive side of the ball, are above average and if you have them play defense as well, they shouldnt be giving up 45 points.

“And what should SHC do on either Side of the Ball? Leave the WCAL again”?

Being that bad is Unacceptable to Parents/Student & frustrating Board Posting Alumni

Just a Point Of Contention;

Last year TheR IN Coach A-Rav first year created three (3) D1 opportunities for Student/Athletes @ programs like UCD or Davison and that was First Since one of his assist coaches graduated from Riordan in 2009

This year multiple D1 opportunities likes Of Boise St & USC,…

C’Mon Mann, not just tackling the league created A Change In Trending in the WCAL this year; 2nd year Of his Tenure.

TheR Completely Humbled sister City programs, ACTUALLY Closing The Door on One of the CITY Programs from achieving a possible WIN In the Whole Season

Yet it was the SHC program throwing Riordan under the bus to prospective kids/families. Confirmed by the parents themselves. How many WCAL football titles do the Irish have? The SHC men athletics program has only 10 WCAL titles - total. Sacred Prep has 16 and they only play 2 sports.

11 WCAL Men's titles (They left out the second title in a row vs. Bellarmine. When did Riordan do that?) but who's counting? Prep can win all the water polo and swimming titles they want. What do you care?
As for "throwing Riordan under the bus", that's just their comeuppance, with more to come.
Also, nobody "ran" from anything, fool, jr. Tell it to your soccer team that was winless in 133 games.

A competitive Sacred Heart program is always great for the league.

Bellarmine football has fallen to its lowest depth in decades. None of its three teams displayed a whole lot of promise in 2023. It was shocking to watch. It's almost as though the school's administration has begun treating football as an afterthought. It's strange. The Bells were once the gold standard in the old CAL and later the WCAL. That has changed. Very odd.

Honestly that Is concerning & troubling, but the difference Is The Bellarmine Blue Pride, It will RISE Back

Has Bellarmine EVER Ran from Challenge & that Is The Difference 🏈🙏
