Trouble at SI?

This situation has been botched by one and all. Apparently, whatever SI wants, SI gets and the rest of the league can go fish, or whatever. Poorly done.

So a team like SHC has to play games on Tuesday, Friday and save enough pitching for a game v. S.I. on Saturday. And S.I. has week off is able to save their best pitcher for Bruce-Mahoney game on Saturday. It just does not seem right.

Really doesn't matter, SH baseball is better than SI this year. Whether we go with Marty or Martin, SI is doomed. There is no Jack Stinn or Matt Krook to save them.

Same was said last year going into playoffs. SH really not hitting ball well right now, so any team ace could potentially make this a toss-up. Cole went against St. Francis on Tuesday, so it sounds like he may be available this Saturday. SI will have whomever passes as an ace for them.

Irish got 8 hits against St. Francis. Clutch hits against Riordan. SI definitely doesn't have Lancer-type pitching.

Friday's 1-0 Bellarmine victory over St. Francis was caused, in large measure, by the Bells' ability to alter their pitching rotation due to the SI forfeit routine. Bellarmine's coach explained that he was able to use one of his best hurlers vs. SF because of the extra rest. There is no doubt now that the SI four-forfeit decision has significantly affected the WCAL race. Of the top five teams in the league, only SF did not benefit from the SI situation. The Lancers, among others, cannot be pleased.

Agree to a certain degree. Forfeiting as punishment is self serving. The games should be played. Pull up JV and frosh. Maintain integrity of schedule...but...lots of things create a subtle advantage. Rain creates an opportunity to juggle rotation. So does an injury to an opponent. The trophy game historically creates an advantage for SI and SH because early on they usually play a 2 game week when others had to play 3. Playing SH or SI after trophy game is advantageous because they usually throw their best guy in that game and then have a let down the next day . In baseball there are a myriad of subtle things that cause microscopic advantages or disadvantages. A coach is looking for any tiny edge they can squeeze out. For the Bells, the SI decision did give them on of those slight advantages. But VC got one too because they had their gift yesterday and scouted Mitty and did not have to use arms, which is a big deal in a 3 game week. The SI fiasco did have a ripple effect. But a lot of things cause similar subtle advantages

Martin Chavarria is pitching for the Irish today. He only had one walk and 4 strikeouts. However, Sophomore Uday Narottam got the win in relief.

Considering what allegedly happened on the trip, I am embarrassed that the SI Jesuits would give approval (spiritually and morally) for the decision bestowed upon its privileged few. Consequences in the Sunset are determined on a donation by check basis.

Did what allegedly took place on the trip (assume its alcohol related) have anything to do with the lacrosse situation, or were they two entirely different situations?

Not sure. If lacrosse was in the same town (at the same time), possibly. Allegedly not just alcohol. Think about it, would alcohol warrant a four-five game cancellation? Imagine the conversations today between alumni.
