Inderkum vs Weston Ranch

With the season finally here, and in front of a packed house. Inderkum and Weston Ranch faced off at the 2nd annual Fortune High School Showcase.

Inderkum starts the game with tremendous team defense being lead by Jermaine Haliburton, and with Zac Chan knocking down some early shots Inderkum jumped out to an early 12 -2 lead. Inderkums Sr guard Jalen Glenn picking up two early fouls and having to sit the reminder of the first quarter, Weston Ranch was able to find a rhythm and cut into the lead ending the first quarter 18-16 Inderkum. Coach Wilson found a bright spot in his young 6’6” sophomore Taylen Goodman who came into the game with great energy and making plays on both ends of the floor. Weston Ranch continued to battle the entire second quarter with Khrisian Holmes (20pts)and Elijah Mobley (16pts) scoring from multiple spots on the floor but still found themselves down at halftime but still in striking distance.

The game continued to go back and forth with both teams fighting hard but Inderkum was just to much to handle. In the second half Jalen Glenn started to get going and showed why his one of the top players NorCal has to offer. He ended the game with over 20pts and put the game out of reach with a nice dunk off of the assist by pg Haliburton.

Inderkum looks ready for the season and should be around in late March.
Final score 94-66

Chico State vs CAL

Chico battled Cal last night for 40 min but dropped the game to the bears 62-55. Chico has the lead early on second half 33-32 and then cal went on run. Chico cut the deficit to 57-53 with 2 min left but cal hung on for the victory. Devin Askew (mater dei kid) played well for cal.

Chico lost 3 of there main guys last year but has reloaded with tons of norcal kids. Brenden Wheeler (ponderosa) and Fresh Jo-Jo Murphy (Piedmont) played well.

As i have said from time to time. Go check out these quality d2 teams. They are not much different than many d1’s now. I would put coach clink up against some of the best college coaches.

2022-23 Preseason NorCal Top Teams

We’re about a week away from the first day of practice for winter sports. Lots of players have been improving their game over the past Spring/Summer and there’s been a lot of movement of players and promising freshman. WIth that said, who are the top NorCal teams heading into the season including teams that are not the usual suspects but should make a splash this year? Breakout players?
Here goes my top teams in no particular order:
  • Modesto Christian
  • Monterey Trail

  • Sheldon
  • Dublin
  • Campo
  • Mitty
  • Riordan
  • Vanden
  • Oakland
  • Dougherty Valley
  • Salesian

WCAL Team Projections for CCS Playoffs Round 2

With 4 playoff games this week involving 5 of 8 of the WCAL league teams we will see 8 teams all in the top 12 of the CCS; #1 -Serra, #2- St. Francis, #3-Salinas, #4-Mitty, #8-Wilcox, #10-Aptos,
#11-Bells, #12-St. Ignatius

First of all here are the projections:
Serra 42-21 over Salinas
SF 28-19 over Mitty in rematch
Wilcox 26-21 over Bells
Aptos over St. Ignatius 27-26

Here's how last weeks projections went for the WCAL teams:

Serra won easily as projected by 40+ over Palma.
SF projected to win 28-17 over SHC barely held on to win 17-14 over the Irish.
Mitty was an 11-point underdog and shocked Los Gatos in O/T by 29-28.
S.I. favored by 18 over HMB won by 9 in 24-15 win over the Cougars.

Some Facts about the match-ups in regards to the Projections:

Serra vs Salinas: Serra is undefeated 11-0 while Salinas is 10-1 with only loss to Aptos 44-41. Common opponent for both teams is Palma whom Serra defeated 57-7 and Salinas 47-14. Salinas top win was over CVC by 21-14.
SF vs Mitty: The Lancers overwhelmed Mitty in regular season by 35-13. Common opponent was Serra with Lancers losing 28-7 and Mitty losing by 35-7.
Bells vs Wilcox: Common opponent M-A whom Bells played twice however I will not count the first meeting which M-A won 48-34. M-A then had Jurion Dickey who scored 4 TD's in the game & M-A is a different team without Dickey]. OK so in the 2 "Dickey-less" games M-A played vs Bells & Wilcox, Wilcox got by M-A 21-20 and Bells last week pulled away from M-A to win confortably by 30-7.
St. Ignatius vs Aptos: Aptos had the huge win over then undefeated Salinas by 44-41 and yet lost to Palma 24-21. St. Ignatius big win was an upset over Mitty by 24-21 and played solid vs Serra losing 21-7.

"SOS" Strength of Schedule favors WCAL teams in regards to projections:
While the win-loss records seem to indicate possible "mismatches" it is not likely in the upcoming games: ie: Bells 5-6 vs Wilcox 10-1 and S.I. 5-6 vs Aptos 9-2. Of the 8 teams playing in the semi finals here are their "SOS" ratings in order:
Serra 32.7
St. Francis 32.3
Mitty 25.8
S.I. 25.7
Bells 24.4
Salinas 14.0
Aptos 6.0
Wilcox 2.9

Conclusion:
of the 4 games it certainly looks like the possibility of 1-2 upsets: SF did not look great last week while Mitty came through with the upset vs Los Gatos. Bells have one of their best players back and played solid vs M-A. I see the Bells vs Wilcox game as a toss-up. If S.I. could upset Mitty then I see them having a good chance vs Aptos - S.I. has been an "up & down" team week to week so just depends which S.I. team shows up [the S.I. defense will have to contain the Aptos offense to have a chance at the upset].

Turlock over St. Mary's

Felt this needed its own thread. I am almost in disbelief. Someone earlier this week predicted that Turlock would score 45 points and no one believed them. This truly was a game where the last team with the ball wins. Both offenses were almost unstoppable, and as frequently happens in high school games the predictability based on prior performance sometimes flies out the window. Lest there be some spinning against St. Mary's remember that they beat De La Salle and crushed Central Catholic. This has to be one of Turlock's biggest win ever. Certainly they have a chance next week against Oak Ridge. They've come up short against them a couple of times in the playoffs recently. Will this be the year they get to them?

Picks for Bishop O’Dowd Showcase & NorCal Tip-off Nov 25th-26th

Excellent Post-Thanksgiving Hoops Lineup as the season kicks off. Who do you got?

Bishop O'Dowd Thanksgiving Showcase
Friday - November 25th

3PM - GRANT vs. MOREAU CATHOLIC * . - I’ll take Grant in a close one *( If Grant has all their key players)
4:30PM - BEVERLY HILLS vs. OAKLAND TECH - Don’t know much about Beverly Hills except they must be in the 90210. Lol. I’ll go with OT
6PM - VANDEN vs. BISHOP O'DOWD - Dragons will be fired up opening up their new hoops palace! BOD in a thriller
7:30PM - CORONADO (NV) vs. MODESTO CHRISTIAN - Awesome matchup! I’ll go with NorCal’s top team in the Crusaders.

Saturday - November 26th

12:30PM - BEVERLY HILLS vs. OAKWOOD- The kids from the 90210 gain the split for the weekend. BH!
2PM - BENICIA vs. MOREAU CATHOLIC - Moreau also gets the split for the weekend.
3:30PM - CORONADO vs. SALESIAN - Coronado takes this one over the Pride.
5PM - BISHOP GORMAN (NV) VS. BISHOP O'DOWD - I’ll take the Dragons in the upset over the Gaels.

15th annual Nor Cal Tip Off Classic Schedule
Saturday November 26 at Dublin High School

Game 1: 9:30 AM Granada (Livermore) vs Vanden (Fairfield) - Looking forward to seeing Granada and their talented front line. Granada in a close one.
Game 2: 11:00 AM Dougherty Valley (San Ramon) vs Oakland Tech - Beasley takes over, but OT keeps it close throughout. DV!
Game 3: 12:30 PM Campolindo (Moraga) vs Grant (Sacramento) - Campo over the Pacers in another close one. Hope the Pacer OGs are in the house! Lol
Game 4: 2:00 PM Oakland vs Monterey Trail (Elk Grove). Gotta go with Money Williams and Oakland High. Hope MT’s Ben R is available. Money vs Ben worth the admission!
Game 5: 3:30 PM Riordan (San Francisco) vs Weston Ranch (Stockton) - I’ll take the Crusaders. They may struggle against the pressing Cougars, but Crusaders’ height and length will be the factor. Looking forward to seeing the 2 Riordan freshman in Andrew Hilman and Alex Kuminga (GSW’s Jonathan’s kid bro). It’s still going to be the King Njsanni-Wilhite show.
Game 6: 5:15 PM Dublin vs Inderkum (Sacramento). Great matchup of guards/wings from both teams. I’ll take the hosts in a game that goes down to the wire.
Game 7: 7:00 PM Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) vs Clovis North (Fresno). Clovis North surprised a lot of teams during its NorCal run. Monarchs will be ready and pull out the W.
Game 8: 8:30 PM Modesto Christian vs Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks). I see the Crusaders in a rout of ND.

  • Folsom

  • Central Catholic

    Votes: 10 45.5%

A lot of the same people have been predicting that Folsom will not win at home against Modesto's finest in Central Catholic.

@larry legend33 has even proclaimed that "Folsom will not be able to move the ball." Bold.

Folsom by two scores!

PCAL Playoffs week 2

PCAL Playoffs CCS Semi-Finals

Not a bad week for the PCAL in the first round of the CCS playoffs. Most games went as predicted even if they were not what I had hoped. Gabilan went 3-1 and the Mission, an impressive 3-0. Unfortunately, the Cypress and Santa Lucia went a combined 0-3. The PCAL will have at least 1 team playing for a CCS title (DIII) next week.

Salinas got on SHP early with their offense and were able to hang on with a late defensive stop. Palma was completely overmatched by the Serra machine. This sets up a great semifinal match between Serra and Salinas. I do not think that that Salinas wins this game. Serra is just bigger, faster and stronger on both sides of the ball. That being said, Salinas has a chance, albeit a small one. The Cowboys offense is arguably the best in the CCS outside of Serra and probably the best passing team Serra played. Salinas has 2 DI receivers on the outside and they have found a running back in a young Sophomore. Their QB1 is very smart and has a great knowledge of this offense, he does not make many mistakes. Salinas will score some points on Serra. I just don’t think they will be able slow down Serra enough. Salinas will have to play a near perfect game on both sides of the ball and hope Serra makes some mistakes. Aptos had an easy win over Christopher and will now face Saint Ignatius in DII. SI has a played much better defense lately, but Aptos runs that wing T so well. This should be a very close, entertaining game. Hollister had a nice “upset” of Burlingame and will now face Soquel in a DIII semifinal game.

Soquel had a nice win over Terra Nova, Hollister will be a tougher opponent, and according to Cal preps favored. But I think Soquel is the better team this year. They are very well balanced and very disciplined. Both Monterey and Seaside had great showings in DV. Monterey upset Pioneer while Seaside had an easy victory over Woodside. Seaside will next travel to Palo Alto (they do not belong in DV). While Monterey will make the trek to #1 seed Westmont. It would be awesome to play a “Battle of the Bay” part II for the DV championship!!

The Cypress and Santa Lucia reps all lost this past weekend to cap their seasons. Soledad got behind early to Live Oak and could not do anything until it was too late. St Francis kept it close with Santa Teresa until the 4th qtr. But the undersized and undermanned Sharks could not keep up. And finally, one of the greatest seasons in RLS football came to an end. The 7th seed Pirates played hard, and they played well, but they could not hang with A division Palo Alto for all 4 Qtrs. However, they will be hanging a banner this winter in the gym. Congratulations RLS on a fantastic season!!!

Gabilan Playoffs:

Fri 11/18 Hollister (CA) at Soquel (CA), 7:00pm :CCS D III Playoffs- Hollister had a great win over Burlingame last weekend. But Soquel has been so consistent this year, I just can’t pick against them. Soquel 28-14

Fri 11/18 Aptos (CA) at St. Ignatius (San Francisco, CA), 7:00pm: CCS DIV II Playoffs- Can SI slow down the Aptos wing T, and if they do can they score enough points? Going with the locals here. Aptos scores enough. Aptos 27-24

Sat 11/19 Salinas (CA) at Serra (San Mateo, CA), 1:00pm CCS I Playoffs – I am rooting for Salinas here. But to me, Serra is starting to trend to that Mater Dai St. Johns model of High school football. It makes it really difficult to pick against. Salinas keeps it close for a while. Serra 35-24

Mission Playoffs

Fri 11/18 Seaside (CA) at Palo Alto (CA), 7:00pm CCS V Playoffs- It would be awesome if Seaside could beat Palo Alto to set ups a Mission League DV title. The only problem is that Palo Alto is a really good program, that had a bad year, that is playing in a division it does not belong in. Palo Alto 34-21

Fri 11/18 Monterey (CA) at Westmont (Campbell, CA), 7:00pm- CCS DIV V Playoffs -If the Monterey Team that played last week shows up, then Monterey wins, easily. I the team that gave up 51 to Carmel shows up, it will be a long night. Monterey has been playing inspired ball the last 2 weeks, I say they keep it going. Monterey 35-20

CCS Bonus Picks

The wheel continues to roll to the finals in the Sac-Joaquin section. Teams are believing they can, and teams are thinking they can't lose. Cooler climate and home field advantages might be the difference in some Major battles about to rumble. Favorites will fall and underdogs will prevail as we have another week of the Sections Best. Goodluck to all Teams and may they be injury free.

Del Oro’s Kainoa Acia rushes for 413 yards and 4 TD’s vs Antelope

https://goldcountrymedia.com/news/2...-antelope-into-division-2-section-semifinals/

What a monster night for Acia last Friday vs Antelope. 33 carries for 413 yards and 4 TD’s. I can’t believe that this story hasn’t been picked up by the Bee or any other media outlets except the Auburn Journal/Loomis News. This is the same kid who went viral his freshman year for doing a flip over a Granite Bay defender and taking it in for a touchdown.
