I do really like the 3 game series for the playoffs…. Baseball is so tough because if a pitcher is on or the lineup gets hot or there are some untimely errors any team can get upset…. The 3 game series helps with that….Having the playoffs early and spread out, teams will be at full pitching streghth for most of the playoffs. Only this week presses a bit on pitching depth.
How soon we forget that MacKay and Smith led SH to TWO CCS Open titles.Irish should be much better than last year, easily. They had NO Seniors on the team. It was like having two JV teams out there. Kochevar will be a huge improvement over the last two coaches.
Size and athleticism will be an issue. Riordan and SI's JV teams are bigger than SHC's varsity.Irish should be much better than last year, easily. They had NO Seniors on the team. It was like having two JV teams out there. Kochevar will be a huge improvement over the last two coaches.
When SHC has talent they can compete with anyone. That hasn't happened the last few years. most local talent is going to SI or Riordan, and now with University having a new gym, they will have to compete with them, too. We'll see if Kochevar can instill the Serra basketball acumen and IQ into the SH program. Serra known for solid defense and constant motion on offense all without superstar players. Hopefully he will have a book full of plays and concepts to run. Hard to win when you just run one play all game.
Oh wow, how did I get that so wrong. I will edit my post.Serra beat Riordan 3-0
AR has a long way to go before they start surprising people, 5 hits total, 0 runs in 3 games vs. Serra in the last weekThe WCAL tournament outcome had some upsets. #1 Serra loses to #8 Riordan 3-0. And in a less significent upset, #4 St. Francis loses to #5 Bellarmine. #2 Valley Christian wins over Sarad Heart Cathedral 2-1 and #3 St. Ignatius beats Mitty 9-1. SI appears to be the most dominent at this time.
Today, the WCAL winners are back at it again.
#3 SI @ #2 VC
#8 AR @ #BCP
Someone on another thread mentioned that AR could surprise and that's exactly what happened. We will see if they can continue their upward move.
The SI vs VC game is a toss up IMO. SI is strong right now while VC seems a bit lackluster at season end.

My bad....Cardinal Newman has an excellent 2027 class also including AT LEAST 3 Power 4 kids...
QB
DL
CB
Plus a bunch of lower level FCS type kids...
Every one of them are from the 2027 class. Serra doesn’t have much help besides them.Jeovanni Henley is an excellent playmaker, he was just hurt much of the year. Jace Cannon is a very good receiver — just got an ASU offer. Fehoko I believe started at guard both freshman and sophomore years. Taufoou, a safety, is probably their highest rated returning player. He is a four star with a Tennessee offer.
Im not the coach obviously but I 100% agree and I would expect them to be scheduled going forward after this season (or very soon)...Time to schedule Serra.

Regarding offense, they return a gaggle of standout OL guys, a number of WRs and TEs and a variety of RBs. No big names. Yet. There is a boatload of raw and developing talent on offense. But they require a smart, athletic, facilitating QB to run the show. A 6-4 record is a reasonable expectation. They will cause major problems within the WCAL. But, again, the non-league trio of opponents ranks right up there with the toughest groupings in NorCal. Folsom will have its hands full in San Mateo. They will have to earn a W on West 20th Avenue. And they well could. Same for DLS. Bosco is on the road. Gulp. From what I’ve been hearing Serra will start a sophomore this season but we’ll have to wait and see. My biggest question this season for Serra is they don’t return a single offensive player this season. That’s a lot of shoes that need to be filled in a small matter of time and with their non league schedule being how it is, I think Folsom will finally beat Serra this year. I expect Serra to be around 6-4 5-5 this season with improves of last season but nothing crazy. Serra has probably the best 2027 class in NorCal, this team will go as far as they take them with not much help.
