Very Early Look at the CIF Bowl Divisions - 2024

I will say after perusing through this thread there is some astonishing football knowledge and predictions given (myself included 🤣).

I might add I think the team that scores more will end up winning.*

Us CN fans have to talk ourselves into a win.

Defense is great, but if they are on the field alot they will wear down.

They need to take their shots (I.e. play to win).

I am not looking forward to sitting in the rain. But, I think it will favor running teams.

Cal-Hi NorCal Rankings

For four bucks a month, Cal-Hi remains one of the best values out there. Truly appreciate the effort and thought they put into their preseason rankings and accompanying narratives, even when there is cause to quibble.

Cal-Hi's Top 10 in Nor-Cal

Mitty (#2 in state)
Folsom (#9 in state)
McClatchy (#11)
O'Dowd (#13)
Carondelet (#14)
Pinewood (#16)
Acalanes (#23)
Cardinal Newman (#24)
St. Mary's (#25)
Oak Ridge (#28)

Quibble away.
Looks about right except I'd have CN behind SMS and OR. Maybe put CLET ahead of CKM also. I have CLET as the top dawg in NCS starting off...

Playoff Weather - 11/22 and 11/23/2024

When I think of wet grass fields and mud bowls, I always think of the Nevada Union-Monterey Trail section final at UOP. Think that was the last year they used UOP
When i think of "rain games" I immediately go to my senior year 1983 CN at Ukiah. CN on its way to an undefeated NCS championship seaon over the Brad Muster led San Marin. It rained like crzy leading up to the game...grass field. They elected to play the JV game before and destroyed the field. Couldn't see the yard lines. CN heavy favorite so they clearly did it to even out the playing field so to speak.Lol

Water over my ankles , straight mud bowl. Couldn't move... CN won on a safety on a bad snap punt 2-0.

What a memory!!

Playoff Weather - 11/22 and 11/23/2024

Back when I played in PE classes at DVC, there were a few times when the artificial turf was wet (and I sure hope it has been replaced with much better-quality stuff since then). It was obviously not a muddy mess, but it was like running on ice, no grip to turn at ALL. And when you fell, it was like ROCK. If ya slid, your skin stayed where you landed while your body kept on sliding. YIPE.
HA!!…. I remember that old DVC turf as well!!…. It was no fun!….

Definitely been replaced, DVC has a beautiful field and a nice new scoreboard…. DLS vs PITT at DVC this Friday should be quite the spectacle!….

Very Early Look at the CIF Bowl Divisions - 2024

Agree. They've gotten super tight and conservative on offense. They have some WR with speed who can get some separation. Gentry will need to break a run or 2 as well. He's a difference maker.

I don't think SRV will have an easy time scoring on Newman though. Get ready for a slog fest if you ask me. The forecast keeps calling for inches of rain. None of the game plan may matter other than who can hold onto the ball.
I agree!….. And when I say I have a hard time seeing CN put up points, I am thinking like a 14-7 type of game especially with the weather….

I think this plays out like the SRV vs SI game but with less points…. 🤣

Early Look at the CIF Bowl Divisions

North:

1. Still uncertain as to where the committee might place Folsom, due to common opponent (Serra) with the top CCS teams. One thing to watch is how their Calpreps rating will progress in a slightly stripped-down SJS D-1, relative to the other divisions in this region.

2. The top divisions in the NCS, CCS, and CS will have their champions after this weekend. Some shuffling could be the result.

3. In a review of McClymonds situation, I feel that their rating is artificially low. Two results in particular are drags (Berean Christian and Fremont). My guess is that their true rating should probably be in the mid-20s. Plus, as speculated in last week's list, not so sure the CIF voters would place them lower than this, considering their history.

South:

1. A number of high seeds went down last week in this region. In some brackets, the highest remaining seed is #5.

2. It amazes me that Narbonne has been allowed to continue in this year's playoffs after all of the findings involving ineligible players. I don't think this would have happened in many other CIF sections.

3. Surprising how many teams in lower divisions have passed those in higher after last week's round of games.

Overall:

1. I was able to do some finagling and move every team away from an opponent from within the same section. Luckily, in doing this, none of the new matchups are blowouts on paper.

2. There was a lot of shuffling in the middle divisions, while those in the upper and lower remained fairly stable. Even in cases where ratings shifted, the upper and lower matchups largely remained the same.

The wet weather should be an advantage to CN, then.

Very Early Look at the CIF Bowl Divisions - 2024

True. But they are also averaging about a 14 points against the 2 best teams (MC/Windsor) they have played.

I’d expect SRV to be much closer (and better) in caliber to MC and Windsor than the BOD’s and PV’s they faced. I do have a feeling they are going to have a hard time generating alot of offense. Defense is great, but if they are on the field alot they will wear down.

I think even in rain CN is going to have throw the ball to loosen up the defense for their running game. They need to take their shots downfield. Both the MC and Windsor game they almost exclusively ran the football. That change in game strategy is when CN started getting lower scores. I would trust my freshman QB to do what needs doing against SRV (I.e. play to win). You can Bet SRV will be using their best offensive weapon to keep throwing. For CN to compete, I think they need to also.

I can see srv putting 8 in the box on CN’S first offensive series.

NCP Pick'em: Playoffs Week 2

Streak,I’m shocked my friend,I was looking forward to seeing
Placer vs Twelve Bridges 2 on the list….there must be a real good reason as to why this 2nd game (this yr) between these two programs is absent,1st game was exciting as neither teams D could stop the other, the difference being a couple Placer miscues, one of which was a pic 6….I honestly felt this 2nd game was deserving of being on this list as was the 1st,even more so now since it’s the semi game of the D4 playoffs.Streak, plz don’t take my post here anything more than I am just surprised this game is not on the list, that’s all! Thanks for the great job you do….just don’t let this happen again!😂😂😂😂😂😂
We picked it the first time around and a lot of big games this week. We will see if Placer can turn the tables in the playoffs

Very Early Look at the CIF Bowl Divisions - 2024

CN is averaging 35 ppg this year. They put up a 56-0 performance against BOD, who just beat Monte Vista. I’m pretty sure SRV coaches and players aren’t joking around in practice this week.
