Grant last played Granada in 96 NorCal Championship at then Oakland Coliseum aka Oracle.
Grant won by 1 point sending the Pacers to there 1st State Final appearance.
Interesting was 96 Pacers coached by Del Paso Heights highly favored Coach Eric Satterwhite who was the first African American Boys basketball Coach in Sac Joaquin section history to coach a SJS Boys team to a NorCal and CIF state final appearance.

Granada beats Grant 59 - 51..rest assured Granada remembered 96.

Chris Victor led Capuchino High to a NorCal Division 4 Championship under Head Coach Pete Harames in 1995.

Verbum Dei beat Cap by ONE point to win the California State D4 Championship.

Capuchino star Chris Victor was an assistant at Eastern Washington and came over to Seattle (a member of the Western Athletic Conference) with head coach Jim Hayfork in 2017. Hayfork resigned earlier this season due to racial slurs he had used and Chris was named interim head coach. Seattle was once a great basketball power and made it to the NCAA Division 1 championship game in 1958 with Naismith HOFer Elgin Baylor. In 1980, the program was downgraded and became an NAIA school before coming back to NCAA Division 1 in 2008.

Seattle is in 2nd place in the WAC and is having its been season in a very long time. Yesterday, Seattle removed the interim tag and named Chris their Head Coach.

The possibility that Seattle will rejoin the West Coast Conference after BYU leaves for the Big 12 is high.

Best wishes to Chris in the WAC Tournament which begins in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena on March 9.

Here’s my game of the night…

25-5 Lincoln of Stockton is at Northgate in a Round 1 game of the NorCal Division 1 tournament.

Northgate is 20-8. They are a higher seed, but lost to Lincoln in their meeting at the Torrey Pines tournament back in December.


Yeah, but enough about the seedings…. The 16 teams that have made it this far are ALL very good or they wouldn’t be here.

The main worry for Northgate is…. Are they fading at the end of the year? They went fairly quietly to Campo and Miramonte in their last pair.

Lincoln, as well documented on here, damn near beat Campo in their meeting a few weeks ago.

I see one guy in street clothes for Lincoln; no idea if he’s a big piece or a small one. Wait, I see two. Once again, dunno how big a contributor he is.

Anyway, let the HOOPS begin!!

D1: Great bracket! Even the 1-16 game is a good one, DV vs SHP-Atherton. I think the winner of this game goes all the way to Golden 1, but it's many, many miles from a lock... I'll go with the Sacred Heart Prep Gators to get the job done.

D2: I'll take Branson. Why? Branson rarely fails to overachieve... Vanden's my 2nd choice.

D3: I was impressed by Central Catholic's showing vs. Vanden in the SJS final, one they might have won if the ref hadn't called a foul on the wrong guy... 2nd choice is Pleasant Valley.

D4: Interesting that the top two seeds are from Redding... I haven't seen many of these teams, but I'll go with Lowell for fun...

D5: Same as D4 for me, but I'll pick Stuart Hall.

David Carmichael has stepped down from his post as St. Francis Catholic High School head varsity basketball coach, Director of Athletics Mark McGreevy announced Tuesday. Regarding the fiasco that happened when Lincoln (Stockton) traveled to McClatchy on Monday night ...

CIF section assistant commissioner Will DeBoard said (in the Sacramento Bee):
“When the officials declare the game is over, it’s over. There isn’t anything we can do. The officials are in charge and it’s their judgment. We can’t reverse a result. Would it be great if we could play those final seconds on a clean court? Absolutely. But we can’t. It’s unfortunate."

Will DeBoard, like everyone in charge of things throughout society these days, of course just passes the buck and uses the whole "there's nothing I can do about it". Nothing you can do about it, Will? Aren't you the section commissioner? Did you forget your title? I know you're just the assistant, but maybe you and Commissioner Mike Garrison can try actually doing your job. You guys are the SECTION COMMISSIONERS.

As Lincoln Coach Chris Roemer said (in the Sacramento Bee):
"A grown woman came on the floor in a defensive stance to guard my kid in play as she tried to tie the game."

Come on, Will. A grown woman (along with several others from the crowd), were on the court playing defense (some of them literally) for the last 8 seconds of the game. I'm not even talking about the McClatchy players. There were people from the crowd playing literal defense for 8 seconds and you say it is "unfortunate" and you "can't do anything about it"?

Lincoln standout Junae Mahan is an excellent dribbler, but she was trying to dribble past about 15 McClatchy defenders (including grown women, students, the actual 5 players who were supposed to be on the court, the McClatchy players that ran on the court off the bench, even the ref was in the way). Of course, Junae still got a shot off but you just say that situation is "unfortunate"? Come on, Will.

Will, a true leader would've said "This is completely unacceptable on all levels. I am going to make sure this situation gets rectified." But no, you said "there's nothing I can do about it".

Is "Midcourt Baby Mama" a character that you are OK with, Will? There's "nothing you can do about" a lady dancing while holding a baby at midcourt for the last 8 seconds of the game?

Mike Garrison and Will DeBoard need to step up and do their job. Saying there is "nothing they can do about it" is pathetic.

Will, if a grown woman broke into your house on Monday night and started dancing in the middle of your living room while holding a baby, would you be OK with that? If Mrs. DeBoard were to say "honey, can you please do something about Living Room Baby Mama", would you just say "sorry, honey, it's unfortunate that there is a lady dancing in the middle of our living room while holding a baby but there's nothing I can do about it"? No, you wouldn't, Will! You would do something about it. Because that's your job. Now step up and do your freakin' CIFSJS job!

The Prolific Select program has become a high-level option for players to maximize their potential and basketball experiences. Therefore, for the 2022-2023 school season, Prolific Select will expand to two teams, which will include the REGIONAL and NATIONAL Prolific Select teams.

As it name states, the National Prep Team will play a true national schedule on a similar path as Prolific Prep, with top talents from around the world. The National team is NOT an AAU team and will only be playing during the regular school calendar season. Above is a graphic and breakdown of each team.

Come on no predictions for NorCal seedings?

After long consideration I have decided that I think King Jhsanni-Wilhite is my 2021/2022 SF Player of the Year.
KJW has offers from Washington St. and San Jose St. He averaged double-digits as a Junior leading, a supposed "rebuilding" Riordan team to a CCS Open Title.
Overall, there are other candidate but KJW really stood out to me as the top player in the City this season.

Other Players Considered:
1) Justin Aquino (Lincoln, SR) - This kid just flat out balled out leading a Lincoln squad to a 20-3 record and a SF Academic League Championship. If you've never seen Aquino play before, he is lightening fast. He has a solid shot as well, and is a special player that If taller would have D1 offers right now.

2) Ray-John Spears (SH, JR) - A high scorer, with the athleticism rarely seen on a SF basketball court. RJS will be a favorite to win the award next season. Spears, main focus is football, but I don't see him giving up basketball. He just starts later in the season, which could affect his ability to keep up with those that play a full season.

3) Joey Kennedy (University, JR) - At 6'7, Kennedy reminds me a lot of old Warriors player David Lee on the court. He has the ability to score inside, and outside, though his 3 point shot and FT Shot needs a little work. IMO, he is the favorite to win the award next season. Had he not suffered an injury in the summer, and played this entire year, he would have really given King Jhsanni-Wilhite a run for his money for the award.

4) Jake Rodriguez (Urban , SO) - He is currently small at 5'10 but showed a lot of promise this season leading a surprising Urban team to a D5 Championship. He averaged double-digits, while also making some spectacular passes for the Blues. His game is there, its just a matter of him growing and then sky is the limit. Hopefully he sticks around at Urban, though similar to Kennedy I could see the Prep Schools lurking in his future.

5) Sean Quanico (SI, SR) - Undersized guard at 6'1, but has a ton of heart and the ability to score from anywhere on the court. Helped lead SI to a CCS Open Birth, and will look to do big things during his last games as a Wildcat.
