WEEK O PREDICTIONS FOR THE DFAL,DVAL,EBAL,BVAL FREELANCE

Friday night the games begin and on slate is game of the week Pittsburg vs California at Pittsburg...plus Concord visiting Benicia, CVC traveling to Folsom and we get to see how Campolindo shapes up with a game at Hayward.....But on Sat. Texas gets a taste of DLS at Trinity. And this is one of the best Spartan teams in a while....But also, on Sat. Cosumnes Oaks of Elk Grove invades Marin Catholic with a 2 P.M. appointment.
Also, Berean Christian departs the DVAL for the Tri-County Stone league.

FreeLance
Tennyson at Logan......Logan 26 Tennyson 6..Just how good Logan is for the 2015 season we will find out...
Sat.8-29......DLS at Trinity.......DLS 38 Trinity 27.....The eyes of Texas get a good look at the Spartan machine..

Games Of Interest
El Cerrito at Sutter.....Sutter 20 El Cerrito 7.......Sutter comes into the 2015 season with a young team but have six returning and a 9-1 JV team to build off....El Cerrito should show much improvement over last season...
Sat. 8-29.....Cosumnes Oaks of Elk Grove at Marin Catholic.....CSO 26 MC 20...Both teams field a pretty strong defense, but the offense should be the highlite of the game....Both teams are aggressive so this 2 P.M. encounter should be a real battle royal....

EBAL...
Heritage at Amador Valley.....AV 33 Heritage 13....The Don's sport a solid team while Heritage is looking for the combination to get rolling....
San Leandro at Foothill.....Foothill 38 San Leandro 24..The Falcons get a test right off the bat..
Deer Valley at Granada Granada 27 Deer Valley 19....The Wolverines speed could be a real problem for Granada....
San Ramon Valley at Las lomas.....SRV 49 Las Lomas...Davidson and the Wolves, supported by a big line will be too much for the Knights...
Castro Valley at Monte Vista.....MV 35 Castro Valley 20......The Mustangs got by Castro Valley last year and this year they do the same.
Livermore at Newark Memorial.....Livermore 20 Newark Memorial 12....The Cowboys will have another tough season, but they have enough to win this game....
California at Pittsburg.....Calif. 20 Pittsburg 14....Both teams sport tough defense, so it may be a case of who gets a break, so this score could go either way....

DVAL
Ygnacio Valley at Albany.....YG 30 Albany 13....Years a go, Albany use to field solid teams, but the area has changed....
College Park at Alhambra .....Alhambra 39 College Park 13.....Last Sat., the Bulldogs got a serious wake up call from a stingy Wildcat defense....So the question is...Will the Bulldog offense show Friday night....
Concord at Benicia .....Concord 34 Benicia 31.....this game was a run-a-way last year as the Minutemen ran all over Benicia..but this season, Benicia has a whole team almost coming back, so this just may be a shoot-out..
Clayton Valley Charter at Folsom.....Folsom 38 CVC 28..The local thinking is the Eagles are in serious trouble, but the Bulldogs 2015 team has to come out and prove they are as real as last season..Plus Jackson is going to make the Bulldogs take notice....
Mt. Eden at Mt.Diablo.....Mt Eden 25 Mt. Diablo 19...again, the 2015 season is a mystery Red Devil team, very little information is out on Mt. Diablo...
North Gate at Rodriguez of Fairfield.....North Gate 32 Rodriquez 20.....The Bronco's did pretty well in scrimmages, so now is the time to find out how good they are.

DFAL
College Park at Alhambra.....Alhambra 39 College Park 13
Acalanes at Antioch......Antioch 49 Acalanes 13......This is a tough first game for the Dons' as they have to face the Likes of Harris, plus enter a brand new field that will be loaded with Panther Followers waiting to see the destruction of Acalaners.
Novato at Dougherty Valley.....Novato 20 Dougherty Valley 14.....DV has been waiting for a breakout game, but the Hornets should have enough to hold the Wildcats down....
.San Ramon Valley at Las Lomas.....SRV 49 Las Lomas 12
Miramonte at Pinole Valley.....Miramonte 33 Pinole Valley 26......This game has all the making of a knock down drag out battle.....The Mats have plenty of troops returning for the 2015 season and should have strong passing game to lead the way...PV can run and pass, so look out....
Campolindo at Hayward.....Campolindo 35 Hayward 20.....The Cougars once again look to be the team to beat and this should be a good test against the Farmers.....
Dublin at Alameda.....Dublin 27 Alameda 13......If the Gael's can get untracted, then this could be a long night for Alameda

BVAL
This league should be called the black and blue league as the winner willhave its hands full every lesague game....
Heritage at Amador Valley.....AV 33 Heritage 13
Acalanes at Antioch.....Antioch 49 Acalanes 13
Tracy at Freedom.....Freedom 34 Tracy 12.....The Bulldogs have to rebuild after a strong season last year and they have to face the combination of Sweeney and rivers which is no ease task....
Deer Valley at Granada.....Granada 27 Deer Valley 19
Central of Fresno at Liberty.....Central of Fresno 26 Liberty 14...the new coach at Liberty has real made progress in Lion country, but they have lost some guns to Grad while Central has not....
California a Pittsburg.....Calif. 20 Pittsburg 14

Scrimmages???

Just curious with 3 weeks to go before week 0 games, scrimmages take place the week before. Also sometimes you get some match ups you just won't get during a season. Any 411 on scrimmages this season. I can tell you Sutter will be at River City in West Sac

LAS LOMAS JAMBOREE

A large crowd is headed to the Pittsburg Jamboree to see Pittsburg, James Logan, DLS and new comer, Jesuit from the Sacramento area. But at Las Lomas we have Concord at JV 8-2 Varsity at 11-2....Freedom JV 8-2 Varsity 7-5.....Las Lomas JV 4-6 and Varsity at 9-3 and Bishop O'Dowd at 5-6...Now the Dragon's sit out the 8-28 date but travel to Tamalpais in Mill Valley at 6-5 on 9-4.
Concord travels to Benicia on 8-28, Freedom host Tracy and Las Lomas visits San Ramon Valley on 8-28 also..
Now the Jamboree is just test and tune as all four teams face tough competition, but Freedom and Bishop O'Dowd have more work to do as their season did not go that well while Concord has to reshape the offense and Las Lomas has to see what kind of a QB they have, plus see what the defense can do as they will be facing Kevin Davidson on the SRV team if he is qualified to play......The Las Lomas Jamboree starts at 5:30 P.M. and it looks like the JV's will start first.....

SJS - TCAL Preview

St. Mary's is in a reload/retool position returning only 6 starters total, and only 1 on defense. This season will be a huge question mark for the Rams, who will enter the season with a brand new starter at QB. Will it be senior Tommy Alegre, junior Jake Dunniway or sophomore Marcus Aponte? Will St. Mary's stay atop the SJAA league? I think much will depend on a healthy Dewey Cotton, but more so to how all the new starters respond, especially on defense. The new QB has big shoes to fill, no doubt. Pre-league games vs Central Catholic, S.I., and Los Gatos are going to be tough for the reloaded Rams. Central Catholic's JV blew out St. Mary's last year and the Varsity game was a close one. Los Gatos is seeking revenge playing on their home field. And S.I. travels to Stockton. How well St. Mary's does in pre-league will be a good guage to see how retooled this team really is. If the Rams do well and at least stay competitive, they will be a favorite to hold on to the SJAA crown. If not, this could be Lincoln's year.

St. Mary's: http://stocktonpreps.com/news/74/retooled-and-reloaded/

Schedule:
09/05 - @ Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa, CA)
09/11 - Central Catholic (Modesto, CA)
09/18 - St. Ignatius (San Francisco, CA)
09/25 - @ Los Gatos (Los Gatos, CA)
10/02 - Buhach Colony (Atwater, CA)
10/09 - West (Tracy, CA)
10/16 - @ Tokay (Lodi, CA)
10/23 - Tracy (Tracy, CA)
10/30 - Lodi (Lodi, CA)
11/06 - @ Lincoln (Stockton, CA)

The Lincoln-Stockton Trojans have a very talented senior class, led by Rodney Jones, a 6-foot-5, 225 lbs lineman who has verbally committed to UNLV. Could this be the year the Trojans break up the losing streak with the Rams? This year's Trojan team might surprise some folks, with much speed, maybe more than the Rams. Like the Rams, pre-league performance will say much as to how well Lincoln will do in league play. I anticipate a very competitive showdown this year between St. Mary's and crosstown rival, Lincoln. I believe the league title will be determined with the outcome of this last game of the season. A definite game for Norcalpeps Pick'em week.

Lincoln: http://stocktonpreps.com/news/69/changing-their-perception/

Schedule:
08/28 - @ Stagg (Stockton, CA)
09/04 - Pitman (Turlock, CA)
09/11 - Elk Grove (Elk Grove, CA)
09/18 - @ Downey (Modesto, CA)
10/02 - Merced (Merced, CA)
10/09 - Lodi (Lodi, CA)
10/16 - West (Tracy, CA)
10/23 - @ Tokay (Lodi, CA)
10/30 - Tracy (Tracy, CA)
11/06 - St. Mary's (Stockton, CA)

Let's not look past Tracy, a team that made it to the finals for SJS D1 before getting beat by Folsom. But, they have big holes to fill with the graduation of RB Nate Jones and QB Michael Brown. Another very tough pre-league game with Clayton Valley Charter awaits. Tracy's JV team lost to both St. Mary's and Lincoln. I am picking Tracy to finish 3rd in league this year behind St. Mary's and Lincoln.

Tracy: http://stocktonpreps.com/news/62/a-tradition-of-grit/

Schedule:
08/28 - @ Freedom (Oakley, CA)
09/04 - Clayton Valley Charter (Concord, CA)
09/10 - Beyer (Modesto, CA)
09/18 - @ Kimball (Tracy, CA)
09/25 - Turlock (Turlock, CA)
10/09 - Tokay (Lodi, CA)
10/16 - Lodi (Lodi, CA)
10/23 - @ St. Mary's (Stockton, CA)
10/30 - @ Lincoln (Stockton, CA)
11/06 - West (Tracy, CA)

Tokay brings on a new coach in Michael Holst. Last year Tokay started out strong but this was due to weak competition. Nevertheless, they made the playoffs, but still no playoff victory. Like Lodi, Tokay schedules 3 teams from SJAA for pre-league play. However, their very first game is an interesting match-up vs Churchill County from Nevada, and will be played on a neutral field in Lake Tahoe. Picking Tokay to place 4th in TCAL league this year.

Tokay: http://stocktonpreps.com/news/72/new-coach,-same-goals/

Schedule:
08/28 - Churchill County (Fallon, NV) @ South Tahoe High School
09/04 - @ Bear Creek (Stockton, CA)
09/11 - Downey (Modesto, CA)
09/18 - @ Franklin (Stockton, CA)
09/25 - McNair (Stockton, CA)
10/09 - @ Tracy (Tracy, CA)
10/16 - St. Mary's (Stockton, CA)
10/23 - Lincoln (Stockton, CA)
10/30 - @ West (Tracy, CA)
11/06 - Lodi (Lodi, CA)

Although Lodi went 5-5 last year, they are returning 8 starters on defense. Does that equate to another 5-5 record or will they bounce back to be a contender for the league? Interestingly, Lodi has scheduled 3 teams from the SJAA, a league that was very weak last year. Just don't see Lodi beating Tokay this year, as their JV got blown out by the Tigers, as well, last year. Lodi finishes 5th.

Lodi: http://stocktonpreps.com/news/70/flames-to-rely-on-old-school-approach/

Schedule:
08/28 - Bear Creek (Stockton, CA)
09/04 - Sonora (Sonora, CA)
09/11 - @ Sierra (Manteca, CA)
09/18 - @ Stagg (Stockton, CA)
09/25 - @ Edison (Stockton, CA)
10/09 - Lincoln (Stockton, CA)
10/16 - @ Tracy (Tracy, CA)
10/23 - @ West (Tracy, CA)
10/30 - St. Mary's (Stockton, CA)
11/06 - @ Tokay (Lodi, CA)

Based on West's pre-league schedule, I anticipate a similar season like last year (5-0) with a strong performance during pre-league, but not so strong during league play (last year 0-5). Can they turn it around? We will see. Based on last year's performance vs their league opponents, along with their JV and Freshman records, I have a hard time seeing them finish anywhere but 6th in TCAL league.

West: http://stocktonpreps.com/news/76/turning-around-the-program/

Schedule:
08/28 - @ Lathrop (Lathrop, CA)
09/04 - Kimball (Tracy, CA)
09/11 - @ Sheldon (Sacramento, CA)
09/18 - @ Chavez (Stockton, CA)
09/25 - Bear Creek (Stockton, CA)
10/09 - @ St. Mary's (Stockton, CA)
10/16 - @ Lincoln (Stockton, CA)
10/23 - Lodi (Lodi, CA)
10/30 - Tokay (Lodi, CA)
11/06 - @ Tracy (Tracy, CA)

W.C.Wood 42 Alhambra 3

W.C. Wood wasted no time running over Alhambra as the defense bottled up the Bulldogs and the offense opened up their passing game and took advantage of Alhambra's pass defense weakness.

W.C. wood.....06 14.....15.....42
Alhambra.......00.....03.....00.....03

to begin with, all kickoff's had no returns and the offense began at the receiving point.... Wood had a tough time running and carried the 15 times for 59 yards, but the passing game was a different story as Wood went to the air 28 times and hit 16 for 238 yards...there were only two penalties for 10 yards, no punts and no fumbles and 13 first downs. The Wildcats hit on passes of 20,22,27,21,23,14,30 as the high lites.
For Alhambra, it was a poor showing as the ground game ran 21 times for only 54 yards and thru 17 passes for 79 yards..There were two penalties for 20 yards, one fumble, the Bulldogs punted twice and had only seven first downs.....The Bulldog pass defense is once again their weak spot...
The W.C.JV's.....o7.....06.....o6.....00.....19
