The Clash National High School Wrestling Duals, Rochester, Minnesota:

Clash National Duals results (Vacaville)
Today Vacaville finished the Clash National Duals by winning the
division 4 pool, finishing 13th overall and 3-0 on day two of the tournament.

Among the highlights include a 36-24 win over the #1 team from Missouri, Kearney High School,
to win the pool, ranked 33 nationally by Intermat. Other dual scores include:

Vacaville 44 Owatonna MN 18
Vacaville 29 Kasson Mantorville MN 35 (#17 Intermat)
Vacaville 30 Pope GA 33 (#50 Intermat)
Vacaville 47 Collins Hill GA 17
Vacaville 54 Jefferson GA 22

The team finished 4-2 overall, with a 13-2 record so far this season. The dual meet win over Jefferson, GA, was the 200th dual win for Coaches Wight and Birch, who are now 201-46 in eight seasons.

Senior Kasey Klaus was selected for the All Tournament team at 120 lbs. - a weight class that also featured the #1 wrestler in the nation, Tommy Thorn of St. Michael Albertville. Klaus did not surrender a single point the entire tournament, and pinned Kearney's defending state champion and All American Seth Brayfield. Klaus finished 20-4 in his four trips to Minnesota, including going 12-0 the last two seasons. He will join his brother Kody on the list of Most Wins at the Clash, who was also 20-4 and a two time All Tourney team member.

Finishing 6-0 with Klaus was senior Chris Lai, who was honored as part of the tournaments All Academic Team. Jeramy Sweany, Danny Delgado, Zack Dawson, and Cameron Bailey all finished 5-1. Steven Gomez and Zach Crane both bounced back from tough first days to win all three matches the second day. Sweany's lone loss was to Broc Berge of Kasson Mantorville, ranked #1 in the nation by WIN magazine, and an Iowa committment. Jeramy lost 6-4 in Overtime.

Also, joining the competition will be perennial state power Vacaville who will be travelling south for the first time since 2009. Wrestling: 2012 De La Salle Show Case

2013 De La Salle Varsity Showcase

De La Salle High School will be hosting the top wrestling teams in California on Saturday January 12. This event is shaping up to be a one of a kind dual meet event not seen often in California. Representing the Central Section will be the 2-time returning State Champions and 5-time consecutive Central Section Champions, Clovis. They will be putting their #1 ranking on the line against #2 ranked and back-to-back Sac Joaquin Section Champions, Vacaville. These two teams have a long tradition of preparing their kids for dual meets. Clovis has only lost 2 duals in the last 5 years (65-2), and those losses came at The Clash to St. Edwards of Ohio and Apple Valley of Minnesota. Adam Wight and Clint Birch have compiled a 201-47 record for Vacaville in their 8 years at the helm, adding to the school's all-time record of 1005-127. The 10-time consecutive Central Coast Section Champions, Gilroy, will be bringing another group of strong wrestlers to the event. They will be led by two returning state finalists, and hope to improve on their 5th place finish at state last year. Hosts De La Salle High School has shown that they can represent the North Coast Section by winning 6 consecutive NCS Dual titles and 4 consecutive NCS Individual Tournament Championships, as well as finishing in the top 4 in the state the past 2 years. The Spartans have only lost to two teams in duals in the last 5 years. Those losses came to Vacaville and Bakersfield.

This is going to be a great evening of wrestling with the 2012 Central Section Champions, 2012 Sac Joaquin Section Champions, 2012 Central Coast Section Champions and the 2012 North Coast Section Champions all wrestling under one roof, in this fan-friendly dual meet event. This event is guaranteed to have some great match ups with some of the top wrestlers in the state going head to head. We will be running 2 mats, the first two duals will start at 4:00pm and the second duals will start between 5:30-6:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for Children and Seniors.

Castro Valley volleyball

Once again, the Castro Valley athletic program lays an egg. The volleyball coaches failed to turn in paperwork to allow their varsity to participate in the NCS playoffs. CV easily qualified to take part but, now, will sit it out. Nice job. Players and parents, who contributed time, money and effort this year, are thanked by being kept out of the post-season. Just one more foulup by a dysfunctional athletic program. Does anyone at CV even care anymore?

College Volleyball Scholarships Available

Wentworth Military College in Lexington, Missouri (Kansas City Area) still has college volleyball scholarships available. Wentworth is part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II, Region 16/District O.
