You sound like a homer, I asked many people about the calls in that game and the fact that MD were called for 13 fouls in the first half and didn't even get into the bonus themselves, what does that say about playing in Northern CA. Not a good argument right. As I was in direct line with that call she did not move, she was in box out position and Tudor ran into her and then grabbed her arm and overreacted and so did the ref, who was behind the play. You cannot close line someone if your arm doesn't move and you have position. What about the foul by Fadal, many thought that should have been a flagrant. So you see all calls are not created equally.
Again, this is becoming a Northern CA biased argument. Trying to say that SMS win the game that matters is a rediculous argument as it is in a different state to everyone else. CA has made the playoff situation even worse by having the open division. So in fact hurt CA teams when trying to compare them with others in the nation. The Nike TOC is basically the lone indicator of like competition. For example the only section in CA to have an open in CIf section and state, is in the southern section which has also created a repeat of games and therefore makes it tougher to get through that section. Can we say the same, NO we have regular sections and then State. The southern section will return to ours next year due to the situation it has caused for them.
Look at how many teams CA had in the national rankings throughout the year, Poly, Chaminade, Sierra Canyon, Alemany, Miramonte, SMS, and I think there were some others. That is a crazy number. The majority of them being in the southern section. So who has the toughest schedule?
Should we be proud of SMS clearly. BUT you cannot discount losses on a neutral court to a team that has played out its season also, as they could argue they finished out just as strong. Put yourself in the shoes of teams from the southern section and think about how they feel having to play each other several times. Would we have come through a tournament, if that tournament had been seeded evenly with say us having to play teams like Poly and Chaminade etc to get to the state final just as we had to play nationally seeded teams in AZ? How'd that work out for us - Oh we lost to Blackmon. I think we benefitted this year from having an easier road to State.
So as I said before until you look at the big picture and consider the road traveled, you will notice that the road was NOT equal. That is why you cannot discount the Blackman loss and you cannot say SMS played a tougher schedule as they did NOT. The only true State competition would have been to place the top teams in the tournament form both Southern and Northern together, and then play those games NOT in Northern CA! A good example is the fact that a team like Clovis West plays Alemany at home and wins a close one and then gets blown out by Chaminade by 40, Alemany had previously beaten Chaminade, so who got homered?
