This is always a strong event. For me, Saturday goes up against and loses to the Belmont Stakes (I haven't missed a Triple Crown race since 1969), but I should make it to the Sunday games.

Every year this is a terrific summer tournament with excellent teams. Facilities are top flight and the officiating is good.

I realize the matchups won't be set 'til after the Saturday games, but will the Sunday games all be at Dougherty HS?

Kiddman, great question.
The Championship & Gold Brackets will be held at Dougherty Valley, Silver at Gale Ranch and Bronze at Windermere.

Yet another Sunday question... When are the first games of the day starting?

My observations of Doughtery.

Dela will good with the guards
MV -great player and they were missing some bigs
DV -two studs, will compete with MV and DELA
Cal-stayed in the game with two quality teams.
AMador- a lot of the same type of players, big but small
Dublin-Timmy and Houston show
Campo- all of the same players but know how to play the game
ODOWD- quick and athletic
Salesian-best team in tournament
St.Marys- one stud
Serra-tough and physical like always
Bellarmine- missing one of the best players in the WCAL and still won easily. Could challenge for a WCAL team. ONe of the best teams I've seen in awhile for bellarmine.
Palo Alto -quick and get up and down well. Nice point guard
Newark- small but athletic and can hit some shots. Will beat Moreau this year and take home a championship.
Logan- A little disjointed but they have some athletes.
Kennedy- competing
Mt Eden- will compete in the tough hayward league .

Question about "De La Salle (Sheldon)" What is that?
Dela and Sheldon joint entry, as in half roster dela, half Sheldon?
Delasalle replaced Sheldon?
Dela some games, Sheldon in others?

Early games: MV beat Foothill by about 11, I think... that game was in another gym, so I'm only going off vague memory of what I saw on the posted brackets at the main gym.

Freedom beat Campo by about 20; Campo had only seven guys... don't know it they had more in the pool games.
NM beat Dublin by 5 or 6, close game
Sheldon beat Clayton Valley Charter by about 15
MV beat Modesto Christian in a close but not-too-pretty game
St. Pat's beat NM by 15 or so
DLS beat Sheldon by 14 or so

Semi's:
St Pat's/St.Vincent pulls off what has to be considered at least a minor upset of DLS 55-53 in OT, a very well-played and exciting game.
Salesian beats Sheldon by 21.

Salesian pounds St. Pat by a whole lot in the final... I left at 6 min. to go with the score 60 to 30. The fact St. Pat's had to play 2 games directly back-to-back while Salesian had an hour to rest before the final *may* have been a factor in the blowout nature of the game, but the Pride was awesome anyway.

I said right after the state tourney that Salesian would be the 2017 Open finalist from NorCal, and I saw absolutely nothing to change my mind on that... VERY impressive!

Kidman32: Great reporting! Cant agree with the Salesian comment. Don't see them as the "Open Finalist". Salesian is a really good pre-season, Summer-tournament team. When you get to the State playoffs, you have to execute not play 1 on 1 , pick up style basketball. Mellis is a great coach, just don't see the player's buying into his style. Saleasian has had some great teams in the past however none of those teams ever did well in the "Open".

Final Results:

Championship Bracket: Salesian beat St, Pats 67-37

Gold Bracket: Moreau Catholic beat Ripon 71-59

Silver Bracket: Dougherty Valley beat Pitt

Bronze Bracket: Cal High beat Oakland

Salesian was by far the best team in this tournament, I know some teams might have been or were without some of there players but the Pride put on an impressive performance. Coach Mellis does a fantastic job with his team and it shows, they pressure you non-stop, full court and are relentless on the boards and give up very few 2nd chances opportunities.

Another great year and I want to personally thank all 44 teams that showed up and participated. The crowds were good and lively and the players & coaching staffs conducted themselves like true professionals. Refs did a great job and kept the action going and were great with kids and helping them better understand the rules.

There were some first timers at this tournament and a bunch of great returners & I would like to get your opinions on what you liked and what you thought we could do to help improve this tournament, we welcome feedback and try to make changes to keep everyone happy.

The staff would like to send our there thoughts and get well soon to Dublin's Timmy Falls, one of the most exciting players in this tournament the past 4 years and we hope to see you on the courts in the very near future!

The Staff @ Championship Basketball Camp

Congratulations to Mike Hansen and Kim Smith for running a terrific tournament.

Always tough to gauge team's based on summer tournaments. Players unavailable and/or coaches treating the summer differently. However, in my opinion, Salesian, St. Pat's, and DLS were the class of this tournament.

Question for the Sacramento crew: Did Sheldon have their players for this tournament?

Kiddman Sheldon didn't play Salesian. Salesian played Monte Vista in Semis. Sheldon went to Fresno and played 2 games friday night. Played in Fresno at 9,11,and 1 Sat morning then traveled to play Odowd and Palo Alto at Dougherty on Sat night. Thats why the Sheldon/DLS split in the pool play Sunday Sheldon played Clayton Valley won by 30 then a fill in game vs San Mateo. Then lost to DLS by 14 or so. 10 games in less than 2 days. They were missing 5-6 players including Elisha Duplechan who was at Stanford Camp. Played DLS with 2 varsity players from last year 6 JV players and 1 incoming Freshman. But thats what summer is about getting guys some reps. So BILLY BOBB Sheldon didn't have their players.

DLS had a chance to win the game against st pats went for the win instead of an easy 2.

Salesian 1 on 1 ball? They won a lot of close games last year and I don't think it was with 1 on 1 ball. Also remember it's the summer you think every coach would have the whole playbook in? I like them an BOD making a deep run.

Honest Question- How does is an incoming freshman allowed to play for a high school team when they are not officially enrolled at the school? I see that Moreau has freshman playing too. Just curious. I know CCS does not allow it.

Summer tournaments aren't governed by sections or CIF, so that might explain why an 8th grader can play...

Rules are even more loose with the AAU all-star gatherings... Up in Oregon, I watched future Findlay Prep star Nigel Williams-Goss play against nationally highly-ranked high-schoolers at a big AAU tourney when he was 11. He did reasonably well, too...

My mistake on Sheldon and MV, I got offline somewhere... But there was definitely a team on the brackets named Sheldon that beat CV Charter in the 12 pm game and then lost to DLS... split squad or something, maybe?

Kidman yes There was Sheldon ,DLS and MV on the brackets. But MV played Salesian and Sheldon played DLS .
Serdapars are you sure. Kids pre register for high School. Once they finish their last day of eighth grade they are eligible to play.

I know that incoming freshman are eligible to practice for their high school teams at least in some leagues. The WCAL doesn't allow this for some reason(s).

CCS Teams that presented well:
Bellarmine and Palo Alto ,
both should win their respective leagues .

Salesian will be the favorite in open
DELA will be second
SLEEPER- Campo
DOWN after great year: Concord, Los Lomas
Miramonte, SI

I think first weekend of summer is way to early to crown league/sectional Championship. Bellarmine may have the best back court in league but not sure they have much else to win league.

As far as"down after a great year" SI was 16-11 last year, great year? They will be better this year. They have a very good junior class. Las Lomas was 16-12 last year.

This is where public vs private have a legitimate gripe. Freshmen can play once enrolled in the school. Privates usually enroll in the spring and publics not until the week or two before school starts. So transfers to public schools usually don't play in the summer because by definition, it would fall under pre-enrollment contact and would jeopardize eligibility. 8th graders must have graduated and be enrolled in a school to participate.
