While I believe the changes the Sac-Joaquin Section made this year with 12-Team brackets is an improvement over the 16-team brackets, I think a couple of tweaks could be made. I also feel the seeding changes made is also an improvement. So, two tweaks. I feel all league champions should be rewarded with a home game. Not a bye, but a home game. I see many instances where league champs are on the road next week. I say just seed them to insure 1st round home games. Next, 7 win team should make the playoffs. This year that is only one team, Chavez (7-3), a D1 school. I think once the brackets are done, any 7 win teams should be added to the bracket. This years case would make a 13-team D1 bracket. Anyhow, just a couple thoughts running through my head after checking out the brackets. All and all, a step in the right direction this year!

It's odd how in some insistence the comity went with the calpreps rating, ie Granite bay over Grant and Jesuit over Grant....But went with reputation and local favorite Central Catholic over Inderkum. Inderkum had a better rating by 10 points in calpreps, similar strength of schedule and beat a common pre-league opponent by more points on the road. Grant obviously be GB head to head and had the identical league record. I guess I was hoping for consistency in seeding.

But SJS D2 bracket lines up nice gate money at every stop. #8 Tracy vs. #9 Lincoln (L). Tracy should have been seeded higher but it lines up a potential rematch of Lincoln vs. DO last year that was very spirited and made a ton of money. #5 Jesuit vs. #12 Woodcreek, winner plays GB. 3 affluent schools...#6 Grant vs. #11 Downey. Winner gets Inderkum. Lines up Grant and Indy. 2 of the least gate grossing teams. Why not pair up the two "urban" schools against each other and yield the best possible revenue from them and only one of these poor earners moves on. #7 Vaca vs #10 Elk Grove. Both travel well and draw a nice crowed. Winner plays Central Catholic. CC has one of the only grass surfaces remaining in the section and the local boys get the comfort of not having to travel 2 hours into Sacramento until a possible section final.

Its a very tough bracket. Better than D1 IMO. If a calpreps rating is going to be utilized then it should be universal. If CC jumps Inderkum then Sheldon jumps Oak Ridge. Two brackets, two approaches. Oak Ridge has a 7-3 record and a 43.9 rating. Sheldon 9-1 League champ and 36.4 rating. Difference of 7.5. Central Catholic 9-1 League champ 41.8 rating. Inderkum 10-0 League champ 49.1 (4th highest in SJS). 7.3 difference.

I am wondering if Vaca shud be in DIII...yes they win league and get a couple wins in the preseason but I think they are better off in DIII then DII
