All-Bay Area News Group team

Just wanted to ask whomever had a hand in making this list how the hell does not one player fomr one of the state title teams not even make honorable mention or nothing?? SMDH...ok so maybe they dont include the AAA league but i see the do include the TCAL and for Henderson or Stanley not to make AT LEAST honorable mention is for a lack of a better term "BULLSCHNOT" Would LOVE to know how not one player from either state title team couldnt even get a sniff.

I call b.s., too as the OAL is included. SF section (AAA) should also be included if this is an All-Bay Area list.

It's not really an all-Bay Area list; it's an allstar team from the regions this newspaper group covers. SF isn't in their coverage area, at least not for prep sports.

The San Jose Mercury doesn't consider SF AAA public schools part of its reader base, hence they do not include them in any of their rankings. They do include the City WCAL teams. Must be a SJ Mercury/ SF Chronicle feud thing. Was never more glaring than this year.

No surprise they did not come out with a final boys basketball ranking since Mission beat four of the teams on their last list. It would be too glaring. Petty.

Exactly. It is limited to the 4 primary counties of the old Tribune, Times & Mercury News service areas. I don't think they consider teams from SF or Vallejo, just as they wouldn't a team from Sac. From the article:

"Who is eligible?"

"Those eligible for all-Bay Area News Group teams come from leagues based predominantly in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The Bay Area News Group chooses the team."

I see the list from who they choose from and there were only 2 state champs were on there. Neither even cracked honorable mention. I watched the state games and just thought one of those was deserving of at least that.. IJS.. I am a 707 homer but this ain't even bout that. Smh

It's similar to the Chronicle's all-Metro team which does not include anything south of Palo Alto, other than WCAL/WBAL teams.

You might be confusing the All-Bay Area News Group teams with the all-league teams listed below them. Players from the state champ teams were voted all-league by their league coaches, but BANG teams are limited to teams in their coverage areas.

The SF Chronicle covers all schools as far South as San Jose. Just that there were not any basketball players this season that qualified for All-Metro selection from the area. If you look at the 2016 SF Chronicle Football All-Metro - Milpitas High's Tariq Bracy was on the list as well as Honorable Mentions from Wilcox, Los Gatos and Milpitas.
