Anthony Gordon, "I would have gone home and become a plumber..."

Very good. Enjoyed the story behind the player showing he's regular guy who finally got the chance to prove himself - again that is on a bigger stage.

Great article and nice to see his patience and hard work being rewarded. 2013 and 2014 produced a number of really good Northern California QB's who have had success in college. Five of them have already got to NFL training camps. It can be really hard to judge talent out of high school and there are a lot of misses with Aaron Rogers being the best example. The class of 2013 had

Manny Wilkins from San Marin who started at Arizona State and is on the Green Bay Packers practice squad;

Nick Bawdin from Los Gatos who started at QB at San Diego State before shifting to fullback and is currently playing that position for the Detroit Lions,

Keller Chyst from Palo Alto HS who started at Stanford and University of Tennessee before getting a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers,

Jack Henneghan from Menlo School who started at Dartmouth and was a free agent signee of the San Francisco 49'ers and played in the AAFL

Drew Anderson from Miramonte who started at Murray State and was a free agent signee of the Arizona Cardinals.

In addition to Gordon the class of 2014 had:

Jake Browning from Folsom who had a great career with the University of Washington and is on the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings.

Dru Brown from Los Gatos who started at University of Hawaii and then transferred to Oklahoma State and will be starting this weeks game against Oklahoma.

I think Ian Book of Oak Ridge and Notre Dame is a class of 2015.

DD is a rabid Coug. So Pops had to wear crimson (it’s not red, if you know) on dad’s weekends in The Palouse. The article fully whiffed on their transformation at Wazzu. Both Minshew and Gordon stepped into big shoes. The Hilinski tragedy left a pretty big morale void on campus, especially her roommates who were tutors.

So not only were their performances pretty spectacular, they were handed opportunities unlike 99% of FBS QBs. Their humility and willingness to be embraced by a fanatic following who lost a sure fire two year stud probably remember him truly as “But for the grace of God, goes me.”

Thanks PALbooster for the informative post and update on those players, several of whom I'll check up on incl Dru Brown of Los Gatos [FYI they destroyed Serra in the 2014 CCS Open Division playoffs before little SHP beat Los Gatos]. Anyway Dru Brown from Los Gatos High was heck of a player in HS and could throw a beautiful deep ball.

On another note.. for those who are not aware and pertains to Anthony Gordon story. Here's another "long shot story" about one Tom Brady out of Serra High.

Brady at Serra was the #2 QB on the 0-8 JV team that failed to score a single TD during the season. Late in the season with the #1 starter injured Brady became starter. Tom was the QB for varsity his jr. & senior yrs which were less than memorable. Tom had decent size & stats though & generated some college interest later passing up an MLB draft to go to Michigan. Tom rode bench there for 2 years. His junior year Michigan had recruited one of the top QB prospects in nation "Drew Henson" who was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as 'Michigan's Next QB".
At the time there was so much team player support along with assistant coaches that Tom had "put in his time" etc. that the head coach was more or less forced to give Brady the opening start and after a great showing Brady was the starter his junior year. Flash forward next season and coaches decided to split time between Drew Henson and Brady. During the later part of season Brady engineered several late comebacks and remained the starter leading Michigan to a win over Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.

Coming out of college the "lightly" regarded Brady was the NFL's 199th chosen player in the 6th round of the NFL draft. 19 seasons later Brady is the winningest QB in NFL history and considered by most analysts to be the greatest QB of all time.

Lets hope the best for Anthony Gordon as well.

QBs who possess the personality trait of “hard work” internal fire rise to the next level, or break records. Those gifted with let’s say- a cannon arm or natural speed certainly pop out...yet looks can be deceiving. But those are tangibles. It’s the intangibles that prove naysayers, or more accurately, myopic thinkers, wrong in the long run. PLENTY of examples.

Who is that guy that played for sacred heart prep then university of Washington? I thought I saw his name on Monday night football playing.
