NorCal Open Final Tuesday Night
  • (#2) De La Salle @ (#1) Archbishop Riordan
The stage is set for Tuesday night at the Crusader Forum. Who you got? Why? Keys to the game?

One decision that should not go unnoticed was Curtin yanking Emeneke early on in the 3rd after some bonehead decisions. In a super tight match up, Curtin could ill-afford to have players make mistakes and benched him pretty much for the rest of the game. What a luxury to sit your 6'10 center and bring in a 6'9 backup.

Riordan should win this one probably by 10 as I dont think DLS will find enough offense vs Riordan's relentless D. They are very few lapses on defense which was an issue on previous Riordan teams. No so this year. That will carry them IMO to Golden 1.

Agree 100 Percent. The 6 "9" Back up is a better player and his defensive presence helped win that game. He just needs to learn its ok not to try and dunk everything. I have seen him miss a lot of dunks this year trying to dunk on people instead of just catching the ball and putting it the hoop. De la Salle's offense won't be able to keep up. It will be fun to watch Blair and Rencher go at it.

Anyone know about tickets for this game? When I get on GoFan the game doesn't appear in either a De La Salle search or Riordan. I can get the Mitty/Clovis West girls game. Is this sold out already?

Was told noon today.

Kinda think they should have went on sale yesterday

Get there 30 min before tip off otherwise you might not get in on time

and still no link for tickets a little more than 24 hours out from the tip off.

Know I'm preaching to the choir on this forum but this game should be held at a JUCO or University gym with plenty of seating. Riordan's gym is great but it's a royal pain to get in as it bottlenecks on the ingress and in the past they haven't been set up to handle large crowds - maybe they are better equipped now than in year's past. Ridiculous that tickets aren't yet available yet. I assume there are private links for the schools but I would expect an instant sell out and anyone not affiliated with one of the schools to be shut out.

*At LEAST 30 minutes before. I got there Saturday maybe 40 minutes early... Got in before the game started, but not by much.

I have an idea there were people starting to line up 90 minutes before...

I didn't wait for the link (still not there, btw) for either this or the Lincoln game, am going to the Mitty game.

Riordan's school website announced yesterday that tickets would be available on GoFan at noon today.
We can thank the CIF for changing the NorCal Finals venues to the higher seeds' home court a few years back. Riordan's staff did a great job Saturday night adding floor seats and setting up a Student Section SRO area behind one of the baselines to accomodate more people. Parking tonight may be dicey with City College night classes, but there is a pay parking lot at City and free parking in the surrounding neighborhood. But agree with @kiddman32 , fans with tickets should arrive no later than an hour before tipoff.

Tickets are sold out I just saw 3 min ago on Riordans Instagram.

Makes no sense. I have been on gofan all day and tickets were never released.

apparently there was a presale link sent to the AD of both schools and it sold out in 2 hours.

Riordan has the better athleticism, and is the more talented team, but DLS is so disciplined. I do think Riordan gives the North the best chance to win the Open title vs the South representative , hoping ARHS wins it

Sure I'll come back to regret posting this but I think that NorCal has a better chance against SoCal this year than in the recent past. I don't see either Roosevelt or Sherman Oaks as being that much better than either Riordan or DLS . Still will be an upset but at least I expect for them to be competitive this year.

While I agree they are closer to them than they have been in the past, Riordan will have major issues with Burriss on Roosevelt and Stokes on ND(SO). If I’m Riordan, I’m starting 21 and having him guard Stokes because at least he can match his size and physicality.

I’m disappointed I didn’t get a ticket tonight. Really sucks, maybe in future they can move it to a larger venue

And lose the #1 seed advantage,…the forum is historic and should be treated as🏀🔥🏀
Total BS that tickets weren't available to the general public though. I don't care how historic the joint is and having home court for the NorCal Open is bogus. Neither CCS nor NCS Open finals were played on the top seed's home court so that argument isn't relevant IMHO. If St Joseph's would have been placed in NorCal and seeded #1 do you think it would have been kosher to have the Open final played in Santa Maria 250 miles away from the Bay Area in their home court band box of a gym?

Game should have been played at St Mary's, Haas Pavilion, Maples Pavilion, or Santa Clara U. Dublin High School would have been a better, bigger venue as well.

I respect your opinion, but we truly differ.

The last time I looked the game last night was for the student/athletes who sweated & toiled all year, yes off season too. Where they have to juggle AAU, other sports, school and their own programs type of boot camp of conditioning & body development. Beside just life itself as they try to mature successfully.

So as you may want a larger venue to accommodate the end of the year fans (like you) who want to see a game of true titans. Maybe it is only fitting that a select number can attend. However, I have witnessed this crowd size before in 2007, but Not with the Same,…”end of season result”.

I feel on possibly a historic run of TheR, to win NorCal on the “court of players that they stand on the shoulders” (like Kevin Resanti Court, but also for every Riordan Basketball player Alumni's too)

It is only fitting when they received the #1 seed from the later toil mentioned earlier. To take that advantage, pay homage & fulfill the words of the Marquee as one enters the parking lot: “Purpose, Performance & Pride”

When there can be nothing left to contest, I guess the location can still be debated.

Riordan excellent run and NorCal Open Champions!! Riordan what a great season from start to finish to now Open Championship battle with Roosevelt of Eastvale.
Let's go Crusaders!!!

I personally feel the greatest post game celebration was TheR airing the last moments of the SoCal Championship on the video score board as players, fans and family all watched and were informed of their State Title opponent.

#AplaceReardonRebuilt,… “WhereEveryoneKnowsYourName”🏀🙏🏀

Agree wholeheartedly. Too big of a game to short change attendance. War Memorial or Kezar would have been ideal. Top seed Riordan still would have somewhat of a home court advantage

All the hoopla about De La Salle's defense, it was actually the Riordan D that won the game. De La Salle only scored 17 points in the 2nd half and couldn't get into their sets. Blair tried to take over but was smothered by the sea of Riordan defenders.

Ryder Bush seemed to have broke his finger at the beginning of the 3rd and from what I heard, its pretty bad. Tofi kid stepped up big time when he subbed in for Bush. Its gonna be a good battle for state on Saturday.

Thing is Riordan may make more of a profit in their own gym, which they don’t have to pay for, as opposed to a USF or Kezar which they would have to rent.

I was disappointed I couldn’t go, but I understand how important home court advantage is.

Defense, cohesiveness depth and coaching have been the keys to success with this Archbishop Riordan team this year. That 3rd quarter 19-2 run on DLS is what every team has seen Riordan inflict. They took that heart breaking loss from last year's NorCal Final as a learning moment. Not gonna lie, but Alec Blair was a true warrior last night for the Spartans. The Crusaders simply wore them down and shut down all of the other DLS playmakers. Give credit to the Riordan bigs as they only allowed 3 points from the Spartan twin towers who were running roughshod up until last night. Riordan doesn't have to rely on a 25 pt/game scorer-Rencher only had 1 field goal I think. Their depth helped close out the game when Bush got hurt. It was an awesome night at the Crusader Forum. Again, thank the CIF for changing the format. This was one of Riordan's goals this year to secure the top seed to ensure home court. Riordan played Roosevelt last year at the NorCal tipoff losing by only 4 points. Rencher, John Tofi, Emeneke and Bush did not play in that game. Should be a good one Saturday night at Golden 1!

If st Joe's would have won they would played at Allen Hancock. Same argument for them. If they were the top seed why the hell would they want to play at st marys college??
Also, as a former player at each level. The bigger court isn't better. When you trap, it works best on a small court like Riordan.

The CIF makes all the money during the state tournament. Not sure on concessions but it is part of how they raise money to pay for staff.

In 2002 Arco was being used for the NCAA tourney. They still made both Riordan and SH play at UC Davis. Why they changed this platform not sure. We always found that it was a good experience for the kids to play at least once in an nba arena before state. The baskets are stiff as hell and it’s a little different background when it comes to shooting deep and from the free throw. Then again one can say well now all ten teams are playing in the arena once so their is no advantage

They were on their way in 2020 until COVID shut them down. And 2023, well - you know.
Not fair to compare those teams and this year's team. Same uniform but different players and player effort. 2020 team did not have the same defensive and roll buy in like this year's team. Sek and Emeneke pretty much look the same but one got his college offers and turned to a lazy, inconsistent player and the other is the exact opposite. Sensley and Rencher, pretty much the same player but Rencher shows dominance on both ends of the court and Sensley's head and heart were somewhere else.

They have been one of the best prep teams in Norcal the past few years (and this year, they proved to be the best), why wouldn't the Riordan supporters talk about them. Lol
