The competitive balance formula has worked again. San Mateo High School's female hoopsters have won their first outright league championship since Jimmy Carter was in his first months in the White House and Elvis was still alive early in 1977, a drought of 47 long years. The Bearcats went 8-0 in the Peninsula Athletic League's Lake Division (a C league). They are 21-3 overall. They await their CCS playoff seeding today in Division II.

Cool! Nice to see a program break a drought like this.

YV boys did it last year (more like 30+ years, not 47), and could very well win NCS D4 this year.

SM won its CCS DII playoff opener over Oak Grove but faces a much tougher assignment on the road tonight at Santa Clara. Bearcats now 22-3. Best girls' varsity mark in program's history.

They won again tonight at Santa Clara, this time in OT. They are 23-3 now. No one saw any of this coming back in November. Next up: Another roadie at Christopher.

Paul is a good coach and a good guy! Love seeing this happen. Having Nancy Dinges on the bench helps a lot. Nancy was an outstanding high school player and continued her career at UOP.
