Coach Daniel Guy and the squad won the biggest High School tourney of summer beating Vanden, Justin Siena, Marin Catholic, Vacaville, Carondelet, Cardinal Newman. Good work ladies! Keep grinding đź’Ş

I thought that was an AAU team, all those girls go to Berean Christian???? Watch out for them next year...

Wow... I can't think of a time Berean has ever been good in girls' hoop... Some years, they have been barely field a team at all.

But I guess I missed last year. They were 21-7, with almost all frosh and sophs. Two of their three captains were frosh, too.

That STILL won't get me to go watch my Bible-thumping alma mater play.

Most of the thumping that was going on was the sound of the ball getting swatted after that 6’3 center blocked shot after shot. They looked really solid. Newman looked pretty well put together as well.

Do not miss out my brother. Coach Guy has done a magnificent job turning this program around. Coach has them looking like a powerhouse. 🦾

How many of those girls will have to sit due to the NCS transfer rules?

Thanks a lot. We played really well. It was a great weekend for a small program.

This is Coach Guy

Are they going to play a tougher schedule this year so we can actually see if they will be a powerhouse?

I completely agree with you. We wanted to teach them how to win first. Now that our young ladies know how to win we are playing the best in California next year. We play St Mary’s of Stockton to open the season. Bishop O’Dowd is our Foundation game. We play Heritage and Antelope in showcases. We were also blessed to get a single game with La Jolla Country Day at their place in mid December. They may be the #1 team in the country. We are in Carondelet’s tournament. We have also requested to be in the top bracket for the West Coast Jamboree. With no seniors on next year’s roster we figured that win or lose, our girls would have a ball competing against the best programs. We will take every loss as a learning experience and every win as a reward for our hard work. Can’t wait….

Meant to add 1 thing. We are no powerhouse. We are just a program blessed and on the rise.

Because of our numbers and our current injuries, we did have 2 middle school young ladies play with us. They are amazing young ladies. But our top scorers and all 5 starters from this weekend do go to Berean Christian.

Now that's what I'm talking about!! Sink or swim, time to jump in the deep end. That is a hell of a schedule! Good luck coach

hate to break it to you but that's undue influence and considered recruiting. just wanted to give you a heads up as you plan ahead....

if winetot thought they were an AAU team, they probably played under a different name. Totally allowed at summer tournaments and college team camps. You see a mix of HS and AAU.

Thanks for explaining that to him. I counted at least 6 teams that had middle school players. Very common for girls basketball since it’s legal and much needed for small schools.

Let’s not hate because jealousy. It’s becoming clear if you are a talented young baller in Antioch, Pitt, Concord, Walnut Creek, Danville our school Berean is a must program to look at. Coach Guy has these young ladies ballin on and off the court.

Getting a game against La Jolla Country day would be equal to if a Norcal boys team played a Sierra Canyon or Montverde.

very impressive Coach. Good to see a fellow Small school having success!

I could actually care less who plays with whom in the summer. However, when my daughter was playing(a long time ago) the schools were not allowed to have players on their summer teams play unless they were enrolled at the school. We did have a transfer in her sophomore year that sat out until all the proper paperwork was completed. Also, when my daughter was in middle school, she was not allowed to play on the high school team in the summers even though there was never a question what high school she would attend.

if the same coaches had an AAU program and invited your daughter to play, and there happens to be only girls from a certain high school on the team... perfectly legal. And AAU teams can sign up for summer leagues and/or tournaments as long as the people running it are ok with it (some are strict about HS only, some arent). If the jerseys say a different name, then HS summer rules are pretty much irrelevant.

having middle school players play with you even if it's in a K-12 is undue influence as per NCS rules.

100% right on. But this tourney was a high school tournament. Not an AAU. Doesn't matter to me, just don't want him or anyone else to get in trouble if it came down to it....

Well said. Most tournament directors know that about 10 programs have hoarded all of the Bay’s talent. In order to get 24 girls teams they have to allow AAU teams. Most directors will ban it if you bring a couple top players but no directors will stop middle school girls playing up. Also it isn’t appropriate to wear your schools name on your uniform when you are playing as an AAU team. I always explain to my parents and players the difference between playing under our school and playing as a travel team.
