In what has become almost typical they hire a relative unknown for the job.
Ralph Fields who's spent the last two season at Bishop Manogue in Reno was recently named the head coach.
He had a 32-19 record in those 2 seasons and heard he may have spent some time at Amador Valley in the past as well but not confirmed maybe someone here can confirm.
Just seems like an interesting hiring for a school that's coming off such a successful season and one would assume some really qualified coaches applied including Ed Hawkins who was apart of the staff and some say the back bone of the staff.
Time will tell next season.

This is a great hire! The yellow jackets are getting a high character coach who knows x/o and developing talent. He did not have the horses back at Amador Valley and still competed in the EBAL. Glad to see him back in the Bay Area.

Good hire, had competitive teams when he was at Amador Valley. Also played for Steve Cain at Milpitas HS. Will definitely do with with the personnel at Berkeley.

Congratulations to Coach Fields. Expectations will be high at Berkeley. Excellent 2015-2016 season with key personnel coming back. Will battle San Leandro and O'Dowd for league title. Should be fun.

Well time will tell! The environment at Berkeley can be a bit challenging to say the least.
As far as the key components returning from this years team that's incorrect. They graduated 13 players including 4 starters so he'll be starting virtual from scratch.
Good luck to him.

Very good coach. Solid with his craft. Works extremely hard. Very passionate about what he does. That's not to take away from anyone else either as when you have a good job like Berk there are usually multiple good candidates but he is far from an unknown in Bay Area coaching circles.

We'll find out soon enough. Not saying he's a bad coach just looking at his records from his two schools were OK, but I expected more from a school that just got a taste of great success. Time will tell as I'm an alum of the school and want to see them continue the upswing.

Thought the YellowJackets had two outstanding wing players and their center coming back. I thought that was the group that started the state championship game. Does not really matter as Berkeley always has outstanding players.

San Leandro is my team in 2016-2017. Pirates are loaded.

Pirates are loaded in talent.
CV will have a few transfers .
Berkeley always has great players .
ODOWD is going to be the team to beat this year.
Mt.Eden will surprise some people this year with everyone returning including a transfer from DELA. They have a really good 3pt shooting. Mt Eden will not get all the easy wins they had last year but will be very competitive.
PIEDMONT- in the cellar . They lost almost all of their starters. Nice run last year .

1. Berkeley
2. Odowd
3. San Leandro
4. Mt.Eden
5. CV
6. Piedmont
