Bernard Ward has been cleared to play at El Cerrito. He will play on Wednesday against Las Lomas.

NCS is always good for a few laughs they petion up in mid December and get approved (only to
avoid a date with O'dowd) now a player gets cleared in march in time for a ncs semi game that there opponent has never had a chance to see all season.

Actually the joke is that he wasn't cleared after 30 days like other transfers. Its a joke that a kids senior season is practically wasted on the politics of NCS .Ec no doubt used a legal rule to petition up to avoid BOD whom they had not avoided the last 6 years they played and lost to each time.So it's really a calculated move to try to gain a better seed in open division playoffs."don't hate the playa hate the game". ...I'm in the minority but I would think EC wants no part of Montgomery with their big guy , I wouldn't even be shocked if they lose to Montgomery in finals......But Bernard Ward is a sharpshooter so he will add another weapon to Ec so we will see what happens

Montgomery has ZERO chance of beating EC.

I have seen Montgomery play twice this year and walked away both times unimpressed. They will have fits with EC's speed and athletic ability.

Monty's big man will be a non factor in that game if it happens. He doesn't even dominate lesser, non physical competition in the NBL at nearly 7 ft. tall. I doubt he even scores 8 points again EC.

Moving up to avoid competition sends a controversial message. Rather than facing adversity, deciding to avoid it. Having principles like this will not get you very far in life.

Anyone remember a kid from College Park a year ago named Sebastian Flores? He tried to transfer to O'dowd and was ruled ineligible... How is Ward eligible? And why now?

Another question: How many total transfers does EC have?

I totally forgot about Sebastian Flores who was ruled ineligible for the whole season.Like I said you can't be mad at the Oakland solders oops I meant El Cerrito they have pushed the envelope in regards to all the transfers and I Don't hate the Playa or the game but don't stack the deck and have the best team you have had in the last 6 years and then put your track shoes
on and run from O'DOWD or ANYBODY else.In my opinion with that team who has already beat Campo
it would be quite a match up with o'dowd, and so what if you did lose what are you teaching these young men run from a challenge or adversity and take the easy way out.

Ward will be a nice addition to EC but I think they like 27-3 without him. How much help a kid who hasnt played all season wwill provide.I would love to see Odowd and EC match...it could happen in Open. Funny how Salesian Odowd Moreau get high profile players and public school get one, Folks now hating.good luck to Ward and I think that was crappy Flores couldnt play his last season. Reminds me of the Smith kid that left Salesian to Deer Valley and couldnt play. I guess its a crap shoot when you transfer senior season.

C'mon guys lets not over think this these are kids and none of this is new, there have been transfers since the beggining of time no one understands when what criteria the NCS uses to determine the eligibilty of a player who has transferred ie:McKenzie kid who was ruled ineligible the entire season etc.Kids tend to transfer into winning situations or schools where they can get the most exposure.

In regards to avoiding competition its never good especially for us as fans who want to see the best play the best but saying they won't get far in life is an over reaction.its a calculated risk for better seeding in Norcals. Its what Miramonte did in football when they won a D2 championship last year I bet they have no regrets about that decision.Monte Vista last year with their team chose to stay in D1 rather than play in open division they won it all in D1.Folsom in football this season didnt want no parts of Del la Salle no way in my opinion they can claim to be #1 when you havent beat De La Salle.

Lets remember playoffs arent just the game on the court but its matchups also and while I may not agree with avoiding competition but I understand as a coach you do what you can to put your team in the best position to win. There will be no avoiding O'dowd ultimately they just wont play them in NCS and all of you guys will be watching if it does happen.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what the top teams do in sections alone. It is about playing in the Open Division and winning games there. Last year, El Cerrito lost in section finals to O'Dowd and then lost in first round of Open Division. This year, if they win the D2 title and lose in the first round, they will be looked at the same way.

I'm glad Bernard Ward is able to get some run his senior year. The Quincy Smith story was always a tough one to understand and its robs a player of his senior year. No rhyme or reason in these decisions.

Sebastian Flores ended up playing at SF State this year, after having sat out his senior year in HS last year while at BOD due to transfer rules.

I posted on here LONG ago about this topic. I know gaucho remembers bc we had a discussion on here. The Ward case is not what you think it is. I predicted Johnson would be cleared quickly and he was, Davis would follow but there were some snags, but the Ward case was way more complex. After talking to people who know, I had no idea how convoluted it was.

Ball of Fame- I usually love your perspective but I feel you're off on this one. EC has had a ridiculous amount of transfers in. While I understand and agree with your sentiment, this would not be the example to prove your point.

I'm glad he got cleared and gets to play.

Chief you were spot on what you said a while ago regarding this subject .Ward played tonight he was very rusty and. A Shell of what he was last year but in a couple games he should be up and rolling. He played good defense and rebounded good not much offense tonight.

But Ec has always gotten Transfers going years back never was a discussion when they weren't winning but now that they are....I'm just saying...
It's unfortunate but transfers are just part of the high school and college game now whether we like it or not....Glad he got cleared but lost his entire senior season...with how erratic the NCS has been any kid who transfers is taking a chance of losing a year and maybe that curbs the high number of transfers or maybe not
