There are a few big games this week in Sac area...

Tonight Antelope plays at Cosumnes Oaks in the Capital Valley Conference. Antelope has dominated league play in years past, and beat Whitney last week in a close contest. Whitney beat CO couple weeks ago at home. If CO has chance to finally beat Antelope, might be tonight. Any thoughts on this game? Hopefully both teams healthy.
Tomorrow night is Metro Conference rivalry game Sac High at McClatchy. I think both teams are healthy now and this is last year Sac will be in Metro. Think these teams have split their conference games in the last few years, and this year could be the same. Who will win tomorrow night's matchup? Both teams have had some ups and downs, but I'm pretty sure this is the one each team wants to win.
Another big rivalry game is the St Francis at Christian Brothers game on Saturday night. St Francis undefeated through first half of Delta League schedule and CB likely to dominate Capital Athletic League again this year. I haven't heard much about St Francis this year, but impressive 6-0 in Delta so far. In this rivalry game, can they beat CB who is having a very good year with lots of young talent?

I like Antelope over Cosumnes Oaks. Antelope beat Whitney, and Whitney beat Cosumnes Oaks. Close game though since being played at CO.

I like McClatchy over Sacramento. Sacramento is very streaky. If they are on ... tough to beat. But Sacramento lacks consistency and hasn't won any big games/opponents in NorCal. McClatchy is healthy now and last week beat Sierra Canyon, and lost to Carondelet by 6 points, after having a 1 point lead going into the 4Q.

I'll take Christian Brothers over St. Francis. Played at CB, that's an edge. CB has a better record and only lost to St. Mary's of Stockton by 12 points recently. Also, CB has a more impressive schedule and body of work than St. Francis this season.

Wow, pretty big upset in my opinion. CO finally got past Antelope, huge win for the program and their confidence. They are having a terrific season. Will be interesting to see how the rest of their league will play out. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple more upsets.

C. Oaks 70 - Antelope 52.
Excellent win for CO! Proving to be a force this season for Sacramento area. A lot of strong Sacramento teams this season. Seems like its getting stronger--more parity. We just need these teams to schedule more non-league games against strong Bay Area teams to get more noticed and make comparisons.

Cosumnes Oaks led 38-21 at halftime, including a 19-9 advantage in Q2. Arionna Butts led CO with 22 points.

Harriel (11) and Goodwin (10) were in double figures for Antelope

I agree totally, definitely much more parity this year! Besides Folsom and St Mary's being the stand outs, the SJS playoffs will be much more interesting this year and not just automatic wins for the higher seeds as in previous seasons. In D1, teams like McClatchy and Oakridge better be careful as CO, Bear Creek, Edison will be looking to make some noise in the playoffs. In D2, will be very competitive with Sac, Antelope, Whitney, Del Oro, St Francis, even Elk Grove and Roseville could make for some interesting match-ups. Many of these teams are facing more Bay Area schools, so will be nice to see if any can make a run in NorCal as well.

Foothill beats Colfax at Colfax, 52-44. Foothill never trailed in this game. Foothill needs to beat Colfax again at home in early February to win league, due to being upset by Placer last week.

McClatchy soundly beats Sac High at McClatchy,
58-36. McClatchy outscored Sac High in all four quarters; led by 15 at half, and by 21 at end of 3Q.

Very big win for McClatchy last night. They have played very tough schedule this season that seems to have gotten them ready for these big games. Having Hall back is a big plus, and she provides them with steady ball handling, decision making, rebounding, and even a shot blocker at the basket. A rematch with Folsom in D1 playoffs will be a good one to see. I saw Folsom coaches and some players at the game along with girls from CO, Bradshaw Christian, Davis, nice atmosphere for this big rivalry game. I though the reffing was pretty questionable, and Sac got into foul trouble early which affected their aggressiveness throughout the game. Also they just had a really bad shooting night. They had wide open 3's in the first half and even missed lots of layups. Without any inside scoring presence, they have to shoot very well or use their aggressive defense to force turnovers and get transition buckets. Ryanne Walters went down in 3rd quarter I believe, and after that, Sac couldn't muster any type of comeback. At first it looked very bad, possible ACL, but heard it was just bad cramp. Hoping so, they cannot afford to lose her.

True. I'm sure losing R. Walters didn't help Sac while playing a McClatchy team that appears to be gaining confidence. And glad to hear it was possibly just a leg cramp. You're right, Sac really can't afford to lose Walters.

Basketba11--I couldn't go to the game last night. Do you have any thoughts on McClatchy sophomore Kayla Fermil? I heard she scored 14 points in the game. I've seen her play in a couple games and looks like a stud, who can shoot from the outside--not afraid to shoot 3's. Along with fellow sophomore Samaya Beatty, McClatchy has only one starting senior and 8 of 10 players are not seniors. They have a freshman I. Felix that's getting a lot of playing time for a non-starting freshman and plays with confidence and smarts. Team is scary good for this year and next.

cptmycpa, great observations. I see the same thing. Actually both McClatchy and Sac only have 1 senior that are main players, so both should be very good again next year. And if Amaya Oliver transfers to Sac (she was on Sac bench last night), she will be the inside presence they need. I've seen both play a few times this year and I agree with you that Fermil is a big difference maker for McClatchy. When she plays really well, they can beat compete with anyone. She is very very good shooter and good ball handler as well. When Hall was out, she played well. Felix is a very good freshman that is contributing, and can be mentioned in being one of the top freshman to keep an eye on, but will need to develop a more consistent outside shot. Will be watching both of these teams in the playoff push. Too bad Sac is leaving Metro league next year, think these teams have been good for each other and push each other to get better, has been good rivalry. Although the coaches might say otherwise, might be glad to not have to face each other any longer, LOL.

Yes, agree. Sac High only has one senior also. They should be very strong next year. I'm hoping R. Walters recovers quickly, if it was an injury. The team needs her. Fortunately, Sac & McClatchy don't meet again for another three more weeks, (last game before the post-season playoffs) so that gives Walters time to recover, and the remaining league games should be relatively easy. This rivalry will be sorely missed--makes both teams better.

16-4, Edison at 20-2, Bear Creek tonight. Will be interesting to see if Edison can have a better game than the 95-52 blowout loss they took at home against Bear Creek two weeks ago, in order to tie for 1st place in their league with Bear Creek.

44-21 Bear Creek leads Edison at halftime. Bear Creek too much for Edison.

Any predictions or comments for the rivalry Holy Hoops game? Christian Brothers and St Francis tomorrow night at CB. This is always a good one, these teams have gone back and forth over the last 4 years. Last year was St Francis, I am thinking this year will go to CB. I am very impressed with Brianna Juniel, she has had a great season thus far and is able to get to the basket and finish with either hand this year. I haven't seen St Francis this year, but know they have some really good shooters and Nicolos has really stepped up and has them undefeated in league play. Should be a good match-up.

I see another good game on the slate for tomorrow night...Salesian vs Bishop O'Dowd. Any predictions or comments on this game? Despite BOD's record, this is a team that is very young which could be a big reason for the inconsistency. Is Angel Jackson too much for them to handle? Salesian outscored them 21-10 in 4th last quarter last time they played to win by 6. Should be another good one.

Any score updates?

St Francis outscores CB 18-6 in the 3rd quarter and Nicolos scores 16 in the win. Final 57-51. Juniel scores 22.

Carondelet hammered Dublin 74-48. Don't know anything but the score, but Carondelet had played a much tougher schedule.

I was afraid that might happen because of Dublin's lack of team chemistry( lack of time playing together) and not being able to matchup inside. As I mentioned in a previous post, Carondelet will most likely find SRV and California to be the two that present the best challenge in league play. They will still be the favorites. But I expect those games to be quite a bit more challenging than the rest of their league opponents.
