Hey folks, a friend of mine signed up and took his son to the Blue/Grey Camp over the weekend. Some of the things he told me blow my mind. Apparently there were like 160 kids, broken into two groups, with about a half dozen adults overseeing them.

There was one bench press to the the 185 pound rep test. It took hours to get through this.

In the 40 they did keep time, manually. No electronic timing. Broad jump was "eyeballed" from about 4 feet away.

At the start of the combine, they touted that about 40% of them would be
"lucky" enough to be eligible for the RED ZONE, which are highly touted
athletes. IF you were "lucky" enough to be eligible for the RED ZONE,
you would receive notice via the mail. Now all you would need to do is
pay another $99 to be listed on their website. You can guess that every
kid there is going to be "lucky" enough to be eligible for the RED
ZONE.

I realize these guys gotta make money but at $135 a pop, it doesn't sound like a very good value. Anyone else have any comments?

BUBBA3000.....You are right, $135 buck a pop and 160 kids with only a half dozen adults leaves a lot of kids waiting and wondering...I'm sure there is some benefit, but the only way is to find out what the kids thought...

I believe this is the same one that was put on at Kezar Stadium a few years back. I was very disappointed in it. Almost a scam if you ask me

I have 2-3 guys I coach working out with AJ Rangel in San Jose,CA and I told him that Mark McMillian messaged me on Twitter about getting my guys to go to the blue/grey combine and AJ assured me that it was not worth it/of use.
Just throwing my experience out there in case posters still thought B/G combine was worth their time.

Just got some #'s
Hand held big disappointment

drills were interesting but not filmed.

$135 was cheaper than going to L.A. but maybe a mistake.

Filmed the 40

one on ones were fun, R shut down everything over 5 yds, but when it's not taped what's the difference.

Does seem SS is going to be position if he plays in college.

Think it was just hit and miss. We'll see what comes back next week.

Getting lots of recruiting services trying to get kids.

Prep Star "you've been classified a rising star"

These things are a waste of time. I have never had a college recruiter ask me now one of my guys did in this local combine or that local combine. These guys are selling a dream that they can't provide. Doing the math they walked away with about $30,000 of your kids money for what???

What college recruiter is going to see this stuff or even care???

I tell my guys to grind in the offseason and perform on Saturdays. Everything else will take care of itself. Several D1 guys from a small D4 school over the past 6 years without the help of local combines should be enough to let you know the value of these things.

SMH...

Ballaz28 beat me to it! It's sad that there is a market for this crap....but there is a market because parents love and think their kids are being overlooked? With HUDL everybody sees everybody these days, and yes kids fall through the cracks, but a 40 time won't change that, and neither will silly drills with no pads.

I think the disconnect is that parents get lulled into thinking that these camps will improve their kids as players. Camps are simply a place to assist in getting one's name out there. Becoming known is in my opinion the toughest part of the recruiting game, even for the guys that have what they are looking for at the next level. Day in and day out it's about how you look on HUDL, your grades and keeping your nose clean on social media. It's also about whether or not you are the desired height, weight and/or speed they are looking for.

With all that said, I believe if you are a player the caliber colleges are looking to offer, free camps like Rivals and NFTC can really help a guy get recruited and get more and/or better offers. These camps can also hinder a guy. A good example is if your forty time is abnormally slow, some colleges have rescinded offers they have already made. The ability to compete in 7 on 7 or one on one lineman drills against peer D1 talent is priceless for recruiting purposes.
