Neither San Ramon Valley and Destiny Christian led by more than seven points in the nightcap of Day 1 at the Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament. In the end, the Wolves scored 13 of the final 17 points to win 58-55 and set up a matchup with Salesian tonight. San Ramon Valley senior Thomas Conley had 18 points and senior Mason Thomas had 13 points. Destiny Christian senior Jaylen Valdez had 17 points and senior Danny Panda had 15 points off the bench.
Balanced Attack paces San Ramon Valley: The Wolves lack the size you would like to see from a top team, but what they do possess a a quartet of guards who can create, get into the paint, have high activity levels on defense and all bring expereience as seniors. In addition to Thomas Conley and Thomas, UC Irvine bound Luke Isaak had 13 points and Elliot Conley had 10 points. They will be one of the best gaurd/wing groups in the region this year.
Rising Seniors to Track: Thomas Conley wasn't in the preseason Top 40 senior rankings, but he has a strong case to be added in the next round. He has length at 6-foot-4, works well of the dribble to get to the rim and mid-range and knocked down a pair of 3s. Panda started the year at No. 39 and he looks to be in line for a bump up. The 6-foot-6 post has good footwork, rebounds well on both ends and is a good finisher.
Jaylen Valdez looks for his spot: The 6-foot-3 Destiny Christian senior is one of the top unsigned seniors in the region. Ranked No. 20 in the 2025 class rankings, what Valdez brings is a strong off guard build who can work in tight spaces, get into the paint to finish or draw contact and execute well in the mid-range. Valdez projects as a high Division II type player.
