Burlingame defeated San Mateo, 22-10, in the 92nd Little Big Game Saturday on the losers' field. An estimated 5,000 fans turned out to view the renewal of a rivalry that began in 1927. Burlingame has now won 10 games in a row vs. San Mateo. The all-time series now stands at 56 wins for Burlingame, 32 for San Mateo, with four ties. Both teams will enter the CCS playoffs next week.

It was a great atmosphere. It was awesome seeing all of the students who participate in football, band, cheer, dance. More high schools could benefit from student engagement.
 
That annual game is much more than a prep athletic contest. It's more like two huge, intertwined family reunions with roots stretching back to the 1920s. There is just something refreshing about all of those decades of history and tradition that envelop that contest. What's more, there are a lot of families involved with relations to both schools. It's all rolled together in two of the oldest towns on the Peninsula. Really great stuff in the Age of Twitter and short attention spans.
