Event was really well-done and came across as LEGIT. Kudos to the organizers. Only knock was that some of the big names no-showed but I think we all assumed that would be the case when the original rosters came out.
My thoughts on standouts from the event:
Socal 2017:
Remy Martin - Kid is a blur and has a flair for the spectacular. Will go to a big time college and be an impact player. Huge potential but a bit undersized. If he were 6'2 he would be a top 10 player in the country.
Brandon McCoy - Will play in the NBA. Huge difference maker on both ends. Once his athleticism and coordination fully catch up with his body (and it looks like it will, on the right track) his potential is the sky.
Cody Riley - Showed flashes of how good he is. Had some nice moves that he just didn't finish, but he also had some that he did. No surprise, should end up an NBA player.
Ethan Thompson - Bigger than his brother? Super smooth player with a sweet outside shot. Could see him playing at the highest level one day.
Ernie Sears - Played well. Has a nice wing body and can get out and run. Potential is the word with this kid.
2017 Norcal:
Alfred Hollins - Did some good things but was pretty inefficient. Showed some nice mid-post turnaround type game. Had a couple nice drives/spin moves to draw the foul. Could be a nice player at a low High-Major, but still has a couple of years to determine that.
Jade' Smith - Liked this kid a lot. Got it going for a stretch in the 2nd quarter. Nice handle, can get to the rim and had a couple nice pull-ups from outside. Some nice drive and kick/drops too. Great size for a PG prospect.
A few other guys had some nice moments (Athens, Calcaterra, Verhoeven, Carter) but this group was clearly outclassed by the Socal bunch. To be brutally honest, this looks like the worst class for Norcal since 2010.
2016 Socal:
Lonzo Ball - Had a 3-pointer and a nice dunk, but the rest of his scoring was on uncontested fast break layups. Did show off his passing though. Those long bomb passes really are something else man... LOL. Had a couple that were incredible. I'm sure he'll end up in the NBA, but still just can't get over his shooting form...
Ike Anigbogu - Big and strong kid had a very good game. Presence on defense and the glass, but showed a couple nice moves on offense too. Will be a 4-year guy at UCLA and should be a big contributor by the time he's a junior if not sooner.
Devearl Ramsey - This kid and Remy Martin in the same high school backcourt, are you freakin kidding me? That's the fastest backcourt in the country. Had a spectacular game, hitting pull-up jumpers, driving layups and dropped some dimes to Ball for easy scores. Will be a very good Pac-12 point guard.
Keith Fisher - Nice sized athletic wing had a good game. Scored in transition and had a couple jumpers from outside too. Looked like a good mid-major player for the West Coast.
Norcal 2016:
Jordan Ford - Ford has proven time and time again that HE CAN PLAY. Great outside shot off the dribble or spot-up, runs pick and roll very well and makes good decisions. Only bad thing you can say about him is his physical stature, but this kid proves himself over and over and over to doubters.
Nikhail Peters & Jordan Ratinho - De La Salle duo stole the show. Both shot the S*** out of the ball and had each had a stretch where they were "the man" for the Norcal team. De La will be a tough open team up North with these 2 leading the way. Both will be good mid-major college players.
Oscar Frayer - Looked pretty darn good. Hit a couple nice pull-up jumpers from the outside that looked pure. Showed off his ridiculous athleticism with a reverse dunk in the game (not to mention the show he put on in warmups). When it's all said and done, I think he will end up doing alright at Cal.
Colin Slater - Really poised and a true point guard. Runs a team well and looks to make the right play. Can shoot it with range too. Plays hard on defense too. Should be a lower level High-Major college point guard in my opinion.
Couple other guys had some good moments like Peter Hewitt, Donovan Mitchell & Robinson Idehen.
