For the third time in 5 seasons, Campolindo will be playing in a State Championship final. And for the third time they will be decided underdogs. In 2011 they lost to Deontay Greenberry's Washington Union of Fresno, 21-16. Last season they defeated El Capitan 35-28, coming from behind 28-7, to score the last 4 touchdowns. Calpreps is predicting a 35-24 victory for La Mirada.

Interestingly, Washington Union finished the very next season (2012) 3-8. El Capitan finished 2-9 this season. Campolindo is now 65-5 over the past 5 seasons. Certainly, the mark of a good program is to be consistent from year to year. Coach Macy has much to be proud of.

Saturday's 6pm game vs La Mirada will be webcast on the Cube: http://thecube.com/e/585961

Definite fan of Coach Macy and his ability to make it happen every year - he's probably going on about 20 years there now? Maybe he'll want a new challenge and help out over at Monte Vista one day, maybe they'd find a way to get past the 2nd round....Good luck to the Cougars!

Campolindo has a big line and thru the season, they have been over powering teams throughout their schedule, but against La Mirada, they came up against a team who also has a big line and had the tables turned against them....Macy say' we are a small with 1300, but La Mirada has 2100 and Miliptas sports 3000 and the cougars got by Milpitas 27-24 but got shut down 27-3 by La Mirada...Populations in school district sizes doesn't always mean you are going to field a good team, good example, Campolindo walked all over Dougherty Valley with a population of 2045 and got by Dublin who has 1647....By wining games and taking league champion ships, puts you in line to be moved up to face teams that could be over powering or not....So the loss to La Mirada is the price you pay, but Campolindo battled its way to the CIF championship game and came out second best, but still, going to the CIF two times in a roll can't be beat...

Bluedog, you must have been looking at an old list showing DV with only 2045 and Dublin with 1647. This year, the NCS has Dougherty at 2658 and Dublin at 2057, and both of those areas are growing by leaps and bounds, which is why both teams are headed for the EBAL next season. It has Campo at just 1254, so Macy was actually overstating the number of kids at 1300.

Observer22.....You are right, I was looking at a older list, I really thought that DV would be fielding a pretty solid team by now, but I guess they are still having growing pains, even with that population number, now Dublin has taken big steps forward, but I was surprised that Alhambra beat them as well as DV.....How they perform in the EBAL in their first year, is hard to tell, but they my catch a few teams looking the other way....It looks like as time goes by, there will be new homes all over the hills on the north side of Hiway 50 which brings up the possibility of a new high school in the Altamont Pass area.
As for Campolindo, they have a very good JV team moving up to beef up the varsity and Westphal to guide them, so they should be pretty good again for the 2016 season, I saw the Miramonte JV knockoff the Campo Jv's, so its possible that Miramonte will be tough also, which could mean that Campo and Miramonte could be the teams to beat, but face the challenge of Concord, CVC and of all things, college Park.....CP has a real strong running back in Norvarro and they to have a very interesting JV team moving up also...so now lets wait and see...

The Campo numbers are a bit deceiving because Campo gets players not just from Moraga but also from Lafayette and many of the best athletes in Lafayette now go to Campo.

Bearlurker...The past several years seems to be a breeding ground for good athletes for the Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda area...a lot of coaches would like to see this take place in their area.

Will Campo be playing CVC ,concord and College Park?...
DJGaucho........We are going to have to see how the DFAL is layed out, it looks like two divisions A and B which might be Alhambra, Mt. Diablo, Ygnacio Valley,Concord and North gate in A league and CVC, College Park, Las Lomas ,Acalanes,Miramonte,Camplindo in B league or vise vera...There is a plan that hasn't been presented yet.

Dublin is making leaps. Dublin High School was ranked No. 165 among the top 30,000 public high schools in the nation according to annual rankings released by “Newsweek” magazine. The facilities are second to none and the population is growing as houses are being built by the Livermore outlet. Camp Parks is in the center of Dublin and with the info above I would expect many of those athletes to play in Dublin. A glance at DHS Sports:

1) Football has improved and as they bring in and keep their athletes I expect them to be competitive in the EBAL. Wade is better than average coach and Dublin packs large crowds.
2) Boys and girls soccer do well and have already beaten top EBAL teams.
3) Basketball teams here always seem to have talent and both will do well
4) Track will do well as Dublin has some studs, female and male.
5) Volleyball is a bit weak
6) Baseball and softball will have a hard time.
7) other sports should do ok.

In the end, if they build they will come. They are coming so let's see what happens.

DV built but they attracted an ethnic population, whose majority is not too interested in football, basketball and other mainstream sports. They do well in golf and if they had a table tennis or cricket team they would probably be darn good! I expect DV to struggle in the EBAL for years to come.

Can't wait to see CVC battle Campo and Miramonte on a regular basis.
