The bad boys of Capital Christian travel to take on Wilcox.

Capital is 13-0 with a power rating of 47.6
Wilcox is 12-1 with a power rating of 35.5

Calpreps projects Capitol 31-24

Personally, I have Wilcox 28-24.

What does everyone else have in this one?

Im taking the Bad Boys with a chip on their shoulder for having to travel by 3 TD's 35-14.

I think they are a slightly better version of the team Wilcox played last week (Menlo-Atherton) and win this one easy.

I hope CC wins this one but M-A looks tough having watched the last bit of their game against Wilcox on NHFS. No predictions on the score but given they have CT as their HC, I would bet my money on Cap C.

Wilcox could be a bit suspect as their best win of season was their first game vs Valley Christian, which BTW was a long time ago. I'd rather focus on more recent games and that of the M-A win over Wilcox. Wilcox looked good to a point before they self-destructed and faded in the 2nd 1/2. I'll have to read up on CC, but that IS quite a disparity on the power rating between the 2 teams. Also the question of M-A's QB situation. So many variables in this game I would not trust any of the CalPreps projections as to winner/game score.

I think Captial is going to need to play a lot better than they did against Placer. IMO the Placer-CC game was similar to the CC-DO game. Placer was in control for much of the game and could have really put the proverbial boot on Capital's throat but was never able to do it. Capital was very fortunate to advance. Casey Taylor has certainly left the late game heroics imprint on both DO and Capital.

Against Wilcox, Capital is going to have to find a way to get D'Marcus Ross going. Placer was able to shut down the run game and the Cougars offense was rendered mostly ineffective because of it.

Also, Ross was injured in the 2nd half of the game and left for a series or two. I hope he's ok for this weekend.

Offensively yes, they need to be better, but defensively i thought they were outstanding to hold Placer to 20 points. They showed they could be disciplined against the Wing T, limit the big plays and be opportunistic when they forced them to pass. They will have to do so again this week against Wilcox's Veer/Option offense.

As I stated before the game, I wasn’t worried about a Casey Taylor led team being unprepared for the wing t. His record against the best programs that run it is stellar. But Placer was a really, really good team that nearly won it.

Wilcox runs the veer really well. Very sound and explosive and equick RBs and a QB that can throw the ball. The defense is more scrappy than talented but disciplined and get to the ball. MA has some great talent on both sides of the ball, but they shoot theirselves in the foot. CC is favored but an intriguing matchup and if CC has trouble with the Wilcox offense it could be closer than many expect.

Wilcox with a nice catch in the end zone to add another TD. 5:44 left in the game. 34-24 Wilcox leading.

CC hurt yet again by personal fouls. Last one kept Wilcox drive alive, where they scored a TD.

BTW...looks like a pretty awful field for a Norcal Regional. SMH

Wilcox holds on 34-30. I think CC had 4 red zone drives where they didn’t score.

Casey has got to figure out how to fix the ‘on field’ behavior problems. All season they’ve had issues.

Kudos to Wilcox for weathering the storm. I thought CC was going to snatch this when near the end.

A team of Sacramento individual all-stars. Individual talent doesn't always translate to team success.

Only saw them in the Placer game but there their personal foul penalties were so immature, undisciplined and unnecessary. Taunting? Really? Do your job and let your play speak for itself.

Apparently it does in this case. They didn't lose a game until the NorCal Regional and from the sound of it nearly pulled it out despite some key penalties.

2 years into CT's tenure and they won a Section title playing a level above where they've ever played before and nearly won Regional against a really good Wilcox team. Pretty impressive.

It is impressive what they’ve done and Casey is a excellent football coach.

I would expect, however, that a school like Capital Christian, to behave on the field like Saint Francis or like Central Catholic, both class programs who win. Their kids get it.

I’m sure Casey will address it.

He didn't have those issues at Del Oro with respect, taunting, and class. You start poaching all these kids from areas who haven't had good coaching growing up and sure you get wins but you also get a lot of noise. Pretty embarrassing to watch these guys this year. Hope they clean it up in the future or SJS comes down harder.

You're right. They had a good season. (Although to be fair I said "doesn't _always_ translate to team success.") And I'm not objective, of course. But they seemed different from the other teams I've watched play. The way they acted wasn't what I'm used to seeing. And they have had a lot of taunting personal fouls, which again is unusual in my experience.

I'm not too concerned for one season of this type of behavior. Sometimes a team like Capital Christian get a reputation of being the sissy white christian kids (of which they are not sissy, all white or all christian) as they are moving up ranks. This year might have been a step to undo that persona for public view. I expect next year CC will be much more disciplined.

I’m sure after CT’s had a group or two of kids from freshman come through that he will have instilled discipline. While he will clean it up next year and in the long term I don’t expect all the bad behavior to be eradicated as he will probably always have some discipline challenges with senior/junior transfers.

He will have his team playing for a D2 championship in not too distant future. Impressive what he has accomplished already.

CC is about as opposite as a sissy white christian school as they get but the hoop team and football don't resemble that much of the student body either. Reminds me of John Thompson at Gtown era. Better start to bring quality kids into the program. You didn't see that at MD or DLS and those 2 programs have the best of the best. You make not like the statement but the legend speaks the truth.

That’s what happened in the Placer game,Hillmen had 4 red zone opportunities that they didn’t convert into pts. That is difference in winning and losing games.

My takeaways:

Casey had more talent and resources than he knew what to do with. For starters, I question his choice for QB. The Mallot kid was 6'2 190 pounds and a terrific athlete/playmaker. Not sure why he went away from Mallot early in the season but He and Ross would have been deadly in the backfield. Mallot would have eaten Placer and Wilcox alive.

Offensive line:
He had arguably the best RB in the Section on his team. He should have rewarded the young man by letting him run behind those big 280-290 pound lineman who sat on the sideline and only played defense. This made absolutely no sense to me. You had the biggest kids in the section, but didnt allow them to block for arguably one of the best backs in the Section. This was unbelievable....

OC:
The playcalling was very questionable. Especially in the red zone. Play calling and personnel choices didnt make sense. Especially as the stakes got higher...

I think the kids are good quality. It looks like the coach didn't have control of his team. He may have had more talent than he's used to coaching. I mean I counted 10 brothers on that defense.... Hahahaha

Always find your takes interesting, BigMann. You make some good points.

Don't know enough about the kids on that team sans one, to contribute to the "why's?" Maybe another CC follower can shed some light.

Agreed.

Coach AL gets a lot of grief for some of his kids acting up from time to time. When you see a Coach like CT having trouble keeping his kids in line with similar types of players, it becomes apparent that it’s not as easy as it seems.

Does Capital have a feeder system? If so, I’m sure CT will start exactly change there so discipline becomes expected and learned early on. It’s hard to break old habits.

TR, they do have a feeder system.

I assumed so. Just don’t know what program it is. Is it a true feeder program called Jr. Capital or is it a nearby youth program using an unaffiliated name? I’m too lazy right to research it ;)

Looks like official cause Casey, Chris Nixon and Aaron Garcia are listed as coaches on the site and there are photos of high school kids with the juniors players on the web-site. I did the search ;)
