Playoff Scoreboard (November 22-23)

I was at the SRV win tonight over CN. The Wolves’ defense played a fantastic game. The rain pretty much dampened offenses in both the SRV-CN & DLS-Pitt games, but SRV’s defense stepped up and pitched a shutout. At 0-0 from their own 6 in the 4th quarter, CN had one of their only offensive bright spots breaking out for a 45 yard run to midfield, only to be shut down again by Jones & co.

SRV will definitely have their work cut out for them next week at Pitt, but they have revenge on their minds after losing to Pitt in this game a year ago. Pitt will be the odds on favorites next week, but if SRV can keep it close in the first half (a big if), they’ll have a chance.
Way to battle the elements. I watched from home!
A few things on this one.
1. What a battle. Both teams played basically a scoreless game until the near end. The better team did win.
2. That is probably the best defense CN has ever heard. (at least in the top 2) There defense was a true "OPEN" level D. Unfortunately, there offense was more at the D2-D3 level.
3. Newman had 4-5 facemask personal foul penalties during this game that really hurt them. They were pretty sloppy on offsides a few times as well. SRV played a more disciplined game.
4. Gentry almost broke 2 runs but just couldn't stay in bounds.. We needed a few big plays from him.
5. Young Frosh "LT" struggled at times throwing a wet ball. He has some very bright years ahead of him.

Hats off to SRV but Newman proved they were a formidable opponent at this level. Think about this... Newman beat ODOWD 58-0 and they are playing for the D2 champ.... I think MC and CN would have cruised in that division. Bummer it ended like that but a great season.
SRV has a heck of a team. Good luck against PITT. Jones is an NFL type talent.

They got stopped on 4th and medium but the zebra called PI…ball looked to be thrown behind the receiver too
It was obvious on NFHS feed. When a DB is not looking back and physically interrupts the WR ability to come back for the ball, it’s an easy call. Unfortunate for the DB, but it’s the right call.

BTW, I’ve personally seen how a selection of 4-5 dry balls can make or break a game. 2-3 with one kid with two towels = poor preparation. The rain never let up….it affected the Lancers and the ‘Cats, equally.

Congratulations to Grant in beating St. Mary’s! One heckuva game, despite a very inept officiating crew which made several bad calls or missed calls for BOTH teams. But, as a member of the chain gang I had to keep quiet. And I will continue to keep quiet about it because I don’t want to take away from the performance Grant made to win the game. It just wasn’t St. Marys night to win. Again, kudos to Pacer Nation!

I knew it was not going to be a good night for the Rams when the chain we had to work with was not properly secured to the pole on one end and needed tape to secure it, the one thing the line judge was later able to help with after a couple of possessions from both teams. The chain also was missing the clip. Normally the school provides one (already on the chain when we get to it) but also the line judge has one with him that we use and he reminds us to return it to him. Not last night! The line judge did not have a clip and we sent one of our chain gang members to go look for one in the storage room but he could not find one. Fortunately, we did not have to use the chain for any measurements. However, we as the chain gang should have inspected the chain much earlier before the game started. Instead, we checked just before the National Anthem and when we discovered the issues with the chain we failed to get the attention of the officiating crew. Next thing you know, the ball was being kicked off. So it really was really our fault. We should have screamed, request for time to fix it, and then moved on. Again, our fault.

Note:,there was some rain, but not as much as I expected. I would say it wasn’t much of a factor as I don’t recall any fumbles.
Nice confession for a public school kid. Penance is 20 pushups 20 sit-ups. You are forgiven and thanks for your service 🙏

CN was in the division they were suppose to be in. They almost beat SRV. Of course they potentially cruise in any division lower than Open/D1.

Regarding the CN/BOD game it’s any given Friday night. Bosco got hammered by MD (or vice versa) and then turned the tables on them in CIF a few years ago. O’Dowd was extremely flat and still picking themselves up after their hard hitting game vs Mack.

You predicted Liberty (a team that beat Amador Valley by 10) to easily beat BOD, and I can see why basing it on the CN game…only?

Their game vs #1 Liberty wasn’t close as the score indicated (23-15). BOD was the better team.

As I said in prior posts, CN will be a load in NCS (and Pitt will give DLS a great game and maybe even beat the Spartans).

From the wins and scores CN, BOD, and others in the NCS are in the right divisions IMO.

DLS Beats PITT 10-7 kneeling on the ball at the PITT 1 yard line because for some reason DLS RB #21 who had an amazing game, his Game Clinching TD was ruled down at the 1 yard line…. 🤣

DLS turned the ball over on their first 2 possessions of the second half, Their defense and Legendary Coach TE won this game!!!….

Coach JA was losing this game with that stupid shotgun formation…. But he showed why he is one of the best ever to do it in CA…..

He pulled #13 and put in the passing QB #14 a ran the spilt back veer and threw 0 passes the rest of the second half!!!!…..

That was a Great win for DLS, PITT is a monster of a team!!!…. It needs to be PITT vs Folsom in D1AA, that will be a magnificent game!!!…..

Congrats to the Open Champ Spartans!!!…. This one was well earned and one of the best Defensive games ever played by DLS!!!!…. 🍻
💪🏻

Do you think San Marin should have been in the OpenD1? Or should have BOD, Amador, or Liberty been there instead?

Looks like you’re watching the game from the right field bleachers at that wonderful sports field
14-7 Riordan - halftime. Defense on both teams stepping up. Riordan fumbles at the 5 to stop a long drive. Los Gatos stopped on 4th & 3 in the red zone near end of 2nd qtr.

You didn't keep quiet as you are here talking about it

5.5 seconds left. Ball on LG 26.pass to end zone, caught out of bounds. LG wins 34-28 Great game. LG trailed the entire game until the go ahead TD
Riordan fumble on their own 31 with 3 minutes left doomed them.

Probably not. That’s the one I thought was odd. El Cerrito would have taken that spot, but…

Liberty would have been my choice due to their head-to-head win over Amador Valley.

BOD if they would have beaten Mack.

They’d have been better off just giving DLS a bye rather than subject San Marin to that beating. Of course with the Open/D1 set up, they probably need a full 8 team bracket in order to push 2 teams into NorCal.
