Morgan Green...just outstanding....

Clay,
Chabot is the new state champion, and they deserve all the accolades that come their way. Winning a championship at any level is super hard, so kudos to those players, and Coach Anger. However, you should probably research a bit prior to stating that Anger has turned that program into a power. That seems to be a bit of hyperbole. A tremendous season, yes. power, not quite. Dont confuse having a great season with having a great program. If you put high BCS level player Morgan Green into any junior college situation, along with Alana Simon, who I had the privilege of watching several times as a high schooler, you've got the making of a great team. 11-17 last season, 17-12 the season prior to that, and 13-12 before that, doesnt quite sound like a power being built. Sounds more like a middle of the road program who had two tremendously talented players in uniform for an awesome season. Green was BCS prior to Chabot, and Simon played great as a freshman at an out of state junior college last season. I believe that being considered a power is consistently putting an above average product on the floor, not a one hit wonder. Rick Dees, singer of 70's classic Disco Duck equals one hit wonder. AC/DC equals power. We will see if this is something that's built upon, or was it a matter of catching lightning in a bottle.

Good points all, but Mark has a pipeline with EBX and has a track record of success.

You're right, though -- next year will tell a lot of the story. If Chabot is still one of the top programs in Northern California, then I would say the foundation is pretty solid. Back to 11-17, and obviously it's not happening.

Clay,
I understand the link with EBX, but that link has been there from Day 1. Hasnt it been there through the three previous bad and average years too? IMHO, it's seems like it's more about Morgan Green and her dominance with the ball than anything. You put Morgan Green, who is way too good for the Big Sky, and the WAC, let alone junior college, and you're going to have instant success. We are talking a top 75 high school player nationally. Those kids dont go to low or mid level Division 1 conferences, and they certainly dont go to junior colleges as qualifiers. It'll be even more interesting to see where it goes from here.

At a certain point, success breed success ... it may or may not happen at Chabot, but it's a lot easier to attract quality players (though granted, few if any will be at Green's level) when you've won a state title, or even played for one.

There's a window of opportunity for Chabot here, I think, and a chance to elevate the program that wasn't there before.

Where is Anger's history of success? Because he recruited a great EBX team? Wasn't he just sub par at Miramonte and horrible at Holy names? Hey nothing but big grats to Chabot but saying Anger has a track record of success isn't telling the whole truth. AAU is much different than college, high school, etc. His AAU connections haven't worked too well in his favor the last few years but this year it did pay off.

I don't know this history but why would a top 100 player burn a year of eligibility at a JC and not use the year as a redshirt year?

Norcalscout,
That is the million dollar question. Why would a kid who qualifies out of high school not just use the year as a redshirt season and then go on to play 4 years at a major university? Isnt that allowed? Call me cynical, but its one reason why I'm not as gung ho on the whole Chabot state champion/Chabot power bandwagon. How does that kid using a year benefit anyone other than that coach. A redshirt year would have even allowed her to come in with more academic credit, and she could have possibly played her senior season while working on an advanced degree. Whoever advised that player to take that chance was most certainly not thinking in the best interest of the player.
