CCS BOYS BBall predictions

CCS playoff possibilities just got a lot more interesting. Archbishop Mitty's double overtime 67-64 loss to Serra means they must win their final two games or their season is over. Mitty plays at Valley Tuesday and home against SHC Friday.

Another overtime game at St Ignatius. SI defeated St. Francis 76-68. Both schools are guaranteed to be in Open Division.

SHC defeated Valley 85-74. Valley is guaranteed to finish in last place, but will advance to CCS because they had a non-conference winning record.

Bellarmine crushed Riordan 68-39. Bellarmine will be the #1 seed in CCS Open Division.

So a winning record outside of league gets you in the playoffs? What incentive is there to schedule good teams in the pre-season?

Each school has to decide that on their own by whatever philosophy they employ. Some schools, like Valley and Hillsdale play a very weak non-conference schedule which they know will get them enough wins to get to CCS. In Valley's case it is easy to defend since the WCAL schedule is so tough.

On the other hand, you have schools like St. Ignatius and Burlingame, both of whom schedule extremely tough non-conference games in hopes of getting the experience to be better teams.

Neither philosophy is wrong, but I prefer the tough schedule.

I know that Coach Kennedy is going to re-think his pre-season scheduling philosophy especially if Mitty doesn't win their next two WCAL games to become eligible for the CCS playoffs. I think that Valley Christian and to a lesser extent SHC takes it to the other extreme.

Mitty still riding the coat tails of the Gordon era and to a lesser extent, the girls program in participating in National non-league Tourneys. Plenty of local/NorCal competition to put together a challenging non-league schedule.

Great Statement. So much truth to what you stated.

No matter what becomes of Mitty’s Playoff fate, I absolutely love the journey and story-line. I love it! Now do I want them to win or lose is not important, I just Love their story this season. They were counted out, but they are still fighting

I would expect nothing less from a proud program led by HC Tim Kennedy.

Again, all CIF is watered down. Each league should have a 4 team playoff. You don't finish is Top 2 in your respective league, you don't advance. That simple. I remember a time when only league champion advanced. Not everybody deserves a medal. I don't care that WCAL 5-6 and 7th place can win a DIII D IV title. With all the advantages they have, winning at that level is a participation trophy.

mitty is a dangerous team. they could be the team to get hot, peak at the open and win the whole thing. i dont think many people counted them out. we all know they keep fighting.

City Vibes where did you go to school? Who do you claim in CCS as your team?

They have Valley and SHC shouldn’t be an issue! Mitty definitely in.
Shouldn't be an issue? Both Valley Christian & SHCP are really hungry right now. VC versus SH last Friday was a crazy game. Mitty has a fight on their hands at Valley on Tuesday. If Mitty can escape with a win on Tuesday night at Valley, Thursday night at Mitty versus Sacred Heart will be epic!!! The fact that Mitty has to win both games next week is in itself a storyline. Major issues for Mitty but Hell, I like those issues and the pressure!!! Sacred Heart beat Mitty in their first meeting. It will be a crazy week in the WCAL

Mitty will DESTROY SHC at Mitty if they get past Valley. Mitty is arguably the most talented team in CCS top to bottom. I don't like the story though. A bunch of hyped and talented kids playing an AAU style of ball just barely making the playoffs. How many teams with multiple division 1 prospects barely make the playoffs in CCS? Let's not start talking about that place like they are such an underdog. They get kids from all over and collect talent much like the girls program who has taken there collection of talent to a new level as of late. I hope they do win both as the playoffs should have them in there. I agree with the poster above if they get hot they could win the whole thing so I hope they make it.

Mitty has a chance to beat Sacred Heart but Destroy SHC? I don’t think so!! Without going into a big thesis, the burden and the pressure will, in my opinion, be on Mitty. SHC won the first meeting so to even think SHC will lay down and get DESTROYED is a fantasy. Mitty is definitely a storied program on both the Girls and Boys side. We will see, Mitty has to beat Valley Christian on Tuesday first. Don’t look too far ahead my friend.

Interested to see if Tim Kennedy heads back to his alma mater, Serra, if/when Coach Rapp retires. I think Rapp still has some years left, though.

You are very likely right. I'm really just tired of the 3 people with about 3 names each that pub SHC on this board 3 times more than any other team at all and they really just aren't that good. If they were that good they would win more. It just litters the board. The most talked about team on this board should not be 4-8 in league. That's just my two cents and it likely blew my prediction out of proportion.

Lol, hey look Friend, when I first came on the Blog, I quickly found out that there are some die-hard SHC Bloggers on here. I too am a SHC Fan and true I tend to lean towards the Irish for a few personal reasons. But, I am most of all a fan of the sport of Basketball and I will critique and give my opinions on anything I see that’s brought to my attention that’s debatable and basketball related. It is very amazing that SHC is talked about a lot, even though their record is subpar. I can see where you’re coming from. You are free to give your opinions and I am free to respond. The dialogue is totally fun.

Bring back SanFranPreps!

I loved all the crazies, mostly fans of one school, that posted there.

There was epic WCAL smackdowns on SFPreps between SHC, SI and Riordan fans! As an outsider from the Midwest - I could take it all in with a smile....

Jeremy Balan is now covering horse racing down in SoCal - Santa Anita, et al. I miss that site but am happy that I stumbled across this one a while back.

For sure. Agreed completely.

Hey facts.......I anticipate some good dialogue with you and others this week :) Talk about coming down to the WCAL wire!!! Them boys at these respective schools must be feelin some type a way! I miss that rush. Glad I can witness a generation of competitive showdowns.

The open should be extremely competitive once the semis hit. First round could have some great games too. I could see 1-2 non WCAL teams in the semis. Might be a stretch but its possible. Will be some great basketball.

It's definitely a stretch since only one team from outside the WCAL has ever won a first round game in Open Division. Hope you're right. Menlo would seem to have the best chance of moving forward.

We can agree to disagree. No problem with that, just want all to remember that these are kids , doing what they love at the direction of the coaching staff. They also read these blogs and as adults we just need to be mindful.
I have learned a lot reading the various dialogues!
