SSF short handed coming into this game. Their leading scorer is out with an injury, another play injured and a third on a college visit.

South City scores the first 6 pointed of the third quarter to tie it at 36. From there it's pretty even but SSF gets a little run at the end of the quarter to take a 3-point lead at the end of three, 47-44.

52-45 South City with 6:11 to go. Freshman Alex Salise giving city a lot of good minutes.

Aptos' leading scorer Ackerman fouls out at 4:55 trailing 55-50. Only three other girls have scored for scored for them.

Final score 66-50. As the South City coach said, "I put the game in the freshman's hands." She delivered with 14 points and 5 assists. 17 points and 17 rebounds for Jerlene Miller. For Aptos, 22 points for Ackerman.

A college visit when your team is playing for a championship? Now that's a team player......

Lots of props to SSF. They played excellent 2nd half and that.m Freshman + Miller did Aptos in.

Perhaps Aptos was a bit over rated. SSF plays without one of the best players in the section and still wins by 16.

Congrats to Paul and his very apt assistant Fonz! Happy you were able to get it done even with Brittany.

Is Brittany out for awhile? Also the college visit for another player is a new one for missing a playoff game

That sounds like courageous coaching. A more timid coach might not even play a freshman let alone put the game in their hands. That type of guidance will help mold and develop the players talent and confidence in the short and long term. Congratulations.

We’re you there? Up 10 in 1st and Aptos best player went to bench with back issues.

A lot of folks underestimated SSF depth. Beating the PAL-South co-champs, Aragon and M-A, in the final seconds on back-to-back nights two weeks ago should have been a signal because the Warriors did so with more than Cedeno in the final analysis. Depth was a key for them then and certainly now. By all accounts, Aptos lacked that commodity.

No Cedeno, other ssf player out is 1st off the bench and they still win by 16. Outcoached them, outplayed them and no clown ref like last year to make 3 of the worst calls in the history of basketball on Jerlene Miller and foul her out and she goes for 17 and 17 (BEAST). SSF Girls play their butts off and that Frosh Alex is one of the best public frosh in the area. Congrats to Coach Paul and GO WARRIORS!!

One more aspect of the surprisingly one-sided SSF win over Aptos: The Warriors are physically tough, aggressive and unrelenting when it comes to the blue-collar stuff like rebounding, setting picks, pressing, fighting for position and loose balls and putting bodies on people. That behavior tends to wear down some teams. It's not always pretty but it's effective against the likes of Aptos, M-A, Aragon and some others.

The defense of South SF is tough to hang with. They are aggressive on the press. This is not the most athletic team overall outside of Cedeno but her teammates play hard and stick to basic defense. Miller killed on the rebounds and Aptos PG was taking extremely far and bad shots that were way past the three point line and South SF just rebounded and converted into a score. They played great. They deserved this win and with Cedeno it would have been exciting and a higher win score but the team deserves credit for making this win happen. Congrats to them and their coaches. They are on a roll.

The Warriors have come up with 6 big wins in two weeks against 6 good teams and MA and Aragon were much tougher than Aptos. Honestly I feel Aptos was way over rated and while they were not having a good game, they were not prepared for the Warriors defense. Warriors wanted it more. I like the comment they are a blue collar team. Working with the basics.
