CVC....a charter school with no boundaries and NO TUITION in the very large Mt Diablo Unified school district.Acalanes has dominated the Diablo Athletic League in recent years, but with a senior-heavy roster, a weak JV team and no indication that a horde of elite recruits are on the way, the general consensus is that Margaret Gartner will retire at season's end and the Dons will fall back to the pack -- and maybe even below it.
Miramonte has been a solid program for the past few years, but coach Vince Wirthman is moving out of the area and there is no Miramonte JV team. A serious step back is possible, if not likely.
On the rise is Clayton Valley Charter. New coach Damian Young has revitalized that program, and as it's a charter school, any student in the very large Mount Diablo Unified School District can attend there.
Also look out for Campolindo, which has improved dramatically in Doug Cardoni's second year, and will likely improve again next season.
Of course, Gartner might decide to return, and find a bunch of young players to build around, which would change the equation. And Miramonte has been successful for more than a decade, so the next coach might be able to step in and keep the momentum going.
More likely though, is that the DAL will look a lot different two years from now.
