Chico battled Cal last night for 40 min but dropped the game to the bears 62-55. Chico has the lead early on second half 33-32 and then cal went on run. Chico cut the deficit to 57-53 with 2 min left but cal hung on for the victory. Devin Askew (mater dei kid) played well for cal.

Chico lost 3 of there main guys last year but has reloaded with tons of norcal kids. Brenden Wheeler (ponderosa) and Fresh Jo-Jo Murphy (Piedmont) played well.

As i have said from time to time. Go check out these quality d2 teams. They are not much different than many d1’s now. I would put coach clink up against some of the best college coaches.

I agree on D2 teams...with the transfer portal in D1, there are less scholarships available to really good high school players. A lot of them end up in D2 and the overall quality of that basketball has really increased. We're lucky in Norcal that there are a lot of quality D2 programs, Chico State at the top of the list. And it's a cheap ticket too!

Not only the transfer portal and all that, but the number of quality players coming out of high school ball has ballooned. There are solid players everywhere!

Did Carter Mahaney play well?
@kiddman32 , that is a good ?. I’m not sure if hes hurt or not eligible yet but he didn’t play. Certainly when hes ready to go I would imagine he will be a key piece of their team. Knowing how good he is and they almost beat CAL without him is saying a lot.

San Bernardino would beat a lot of D1 ‘s this year. They are loaded. They have a lot of ex d1 players

I’ve heard he had been practicing with the starters, so if he didn’t play at all something’s up.

He wasn’t in the box score. There is no way (from what I know) that he wouldn’t either start or get major minutes this year. He’s an absolute stud and a winner. Maybe he got sick/covid?

He’s probably subjected to transfer rules since he transferred from Northern Arizona

That was my first thought also but isn’t easier from d1 too d2? I can’t recall all the rules but somebody will know. In any event , Chico and San Marcos//San Bernardino will battle for league and all 3 are top 25 type teams.

Kiddman, I spoke with Coach Clinc. The news is, Carter broke his arm. The Coach said he is doing well other wise. Clinc said he loves his energy, really good player and a great guy. Look for him at end of season.

Here's wishing you great hoops

Oh man, that’s tough. Thanks for the info Marcskit. I knew he was doing well there, and like Larry said I didn’t think transferring from D1 to D2 was an issue. I was really looking forward to seeing him on the Wildcats.

It’s funny my son told me same thing. Two brothers from Australia. One apparently with NBA potential. Think Josh Giddey. Only 3rd or 4th year as a d-1 program for CBU.

Taran Armstrong is being projected to be drafted by some of the mocks out there.

Looks like it's going to be a tough year for Cal. It's still looking for its first win vs. a D1. I could see them going 0-20 in the conference
but wyking was the issue...........................................................

but wyking was the issue...........................................................
Mike Williams hiring him on the cheap was the issues then Knowlton hiring retread garbage Fox was also a problem, but Wyking was terrible and so is Fox and the entire Cal administration
