Let's get a topic going on this match up. Predictions? Why? Etc.... This game is what high school football is all about.

Here's my 2 cents on this epic match up.

The Uglies are playing fantastic football at the right time. It's been an epic year offensively, led by arguably the top 5 RB in No Cal, Miles Harrison. He has torched every team all season, and destroyed Concord High last weekend in NCS Title game. He follows a machine-like offensive line. Underrated is their newly found passing game. QB has 19 TD's & 1 INT. Defense is playing shut down and have allowed less than 40 points in the playoff's, including stuff the high powered Concord High. Playing Oakdale is close to playing their mirror image. Well balanced, hard hitting and explosive running game. Oakdale has history and a great fan base. They will come to play. In reviewing their schedules, I'd argue that CV has played a more difficult one, and for the most part, has blown everyone out. They were battle tested in game vs. Con and vs. Tracy.

I believe this game will come down to explosive/big plays, turnovers and which team can impose their will/style to an advantage. In the end, I think that CV will have too much fire power, and more "athletic" overall at the skill positions. I think that this is a magic year for the Ugly Eagles, and with respect to Oakdale......prediction:

CV - 41, Oakdale 21

I give the edge to CVC due to better overall team speed and home advantage.

That Oakdale FB is going to make his presence felt- he is an animal. I was very impressed with how he played at Levi Stadium.

I haven't seen CVC play this season, but everything I've read or heard suggests that they are much better than the team that lost Oakdale 2 seasons ago.

And the team that lost to Oakdale 2 seasons ago was a good one. They lost their star RB Protheroe (corrected) to injury in the first half of that game and still only lost by 3 in Stockton. They'll be in a much better situation this year playing at home.

Very good point. It was actually Joe Protheroe that was injured in the 1st half, perhaps 1st quarter. He is now a RB at Cal Poly. If he didn't go down, they probably win that game. This years CV team is much better on both sides of the ball.

Oakdale has heard that CV has a better team than in 2012, believe me we have heard. We have also heard they have a couple of De la Salle transfers, whether that is true or not who knows. Either way it doesn't matter. CV is a great team, and Oak knows they have their work cut out for them. Oak will give them everything they have as they always do and win or lose they will make our community proud....these boys are ALL from Oakdale ...no transfers and no open enrollement and that is something to be proud of....so, with that said, I wish both teams the best and pray for no injurys for all kids on both teams!

This is the match-up I have wanted to see from the very beginning. Two very similar programs with excellent coaching, which translates to great execution on the field. The game two years ago was phenomenal, and Oakdale was a little better that day. I have seen everyone of Clayton Valley's games this season and agree they are peaking at the right time, with that said - I absolutely expect Oakdale to give all they can handle and make this a great game.

Not much of a fan of dragging "transfers" into the conversation, but since it was brought up, Kahlil McKenzie (the best defensive player in CA) and Ray Jackson (probably the fastest player in Northern California) have been ineligible for the entire season. More importantly, Concord who is a great offensive team, has four starters that began at Clayton Valley including Mitchell Daniels one of the best QB's in Northern California. Concord has 5 high schools including De La Salle, Clayton Valley has lost as many good players as they have gained, trust me on that one.

Playsomeball,I went to a game in Oakdale 2 years ago, my son was playing for Benicia High, and U could tell football was big up there. After the 100 mile drive I stopped at a local eatery and noticed how quiet the street was, even though their were quite a few businesses on it.The clerk said, well most everyone is at the game. And that place was PACKED.Nice, nice people too.Great small town atmosphere, and great support from the town.

@remc...yes, this town is huge on football. We all look forward to Fridays in the fall. The stands are packed every Friday night. The thing with this town is we have generation after generations of alumni, the 85 year old men who used to play football for Oakdale are now sitting in the stands watching their Great Grandsons play and this is what makes it so special in this town. I have gone to many away games and it is frustrating to see the home team have little to no support. No matter who the team is I feel their community should come out and support them. By the way I was at the Benicia/Oak game and Benicia is one heck of a football team...should be proud!

Wow,thats great, generations of Mustangs supporting the current kids.Thats what its all about, along with the football. How is the youth football up there?

PLAYSOMEBALL....Do you remember when the Oakdale mustangs use to be the Oakdale Indians, don't know when the change came, but it had to be in the early 2000's???

One thing I can definitely promise: Oakdale's stands at CV will be totally full! That town supports their team 110%! Go 'Stangs!

No Bluedog2, Always has been the Mustangs.

I would like to take this time to share what it means to be a Mustang and a later a Mustang fan.
I am afraid Clayton Valley and the North Coast Commissioner may have gotten the wrong idea about out fans this week.
I know our fans are vocal and some I am sure can be over zealous which can lead to deserved frustration. But as a whole
we are just super dedicated fans. The Commissioner was very helpful to me with his info and I know that he and the AD
for Clayton Valley worked hard to support all the fans needs. I say thank you.
Now back to being a Mustang. We were a population of 2,000 during my childhood (now we stand about 20,000+). Everybody pretty much knew everybody else. We have had a long tradition of sports. In football Oakdale has produced many college (and beyond) players. Some include Rick Jones- Cal RB, and Ron Rieger- Colorado RB. One great memory for me is being a freshman and having these 2 plus John Garcia (Modesto JC) coming my way on a sweep. They flattened me! But I stayed my ground. If your a player you understand. Other players went on including Charles Nave- Navy RB. I remember being a kid watching him bust a long one on national TV. So cool. Mike House went on to play TE for the New England Patriots after a steller career at UOP. Zach Quaccia entered the Tampa Bay system after Stanford, and his cousin Seth Burford went to the Chargers after Cal Poly SLO. We also had Bruce Coslet who was a Tight End for the Bengals and later head coached the Bengals and the Jets. Lastly I wanted to mention Eddie Lebaron a pro QB and later inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Thinking of Lebaron's small physical stature reminds me of the so many Mustang players of the past who didnt meet scout
measurements but hit as hard as any Division 1 school (i.e. Josh Leslie, Billie Hendricks, etc.) The kind of guys who put it
all out there body and soul. We are proud of our history of coaches tool. For me that included Clipper, Walker, Wingo, and
former SF 49er great Visco Grgich. one tough son of a gun. Coach Wingo got the best out of me. He knew how to push my
buttons, while later giving that sly smile that told me he knew what he was doing. I remember as an 8 year old in 1961
watching from the stands hoping I would get to play for Coach Clipper some day (I later did). I remember as a player feeling
like we let the team down when we "slid" to 6-4 our senior year. But, I remember battling in losses to St. Mary's (16-8) and
Lincoln of Stockton (14-7). I remember watching John Quaccia as a youngster (Coslet was on this team) throwing passes
to my brother. They also took pride in a defense that only gave up 19 points total that season. I remember playing with Jim
Orvis son and nephew of two great two great RBs from the 40s. I feel pride knowing that Jim's nephew now plays for
the Mustangs. It is all this history and pride (not to be mistaken for snobbery), that drives our players and fans. They are
among the loudest and most knowledgeable fans I have ever seen. There is reason to stand as one and shout when your opponent is 4th and 1 on your 1 yard line. Yes, you will hear some of us also keeping the refs watching out for penalties
and the occasional dirty player. I sure that can come across as wrong to some. But I do not apologize. As the saying goes
"Mustang born, Mustang bred, I will be a Mustang until the day I'm dead". Truly

@remc...youth football here is big. The kids here start playing at 7/8 years old and play together year after year into high school and are taught to run the Wing T and by the time they get to high school they know it to perfection.

Thats cool, same core group of kids playing together for years. No wonder the high school is so consistently good.

remc, that loyalty is nice to hear since Clayton Valley is basically a poor mans De La Salle.

Clayton Valley Cheaters School....2yrs probation handed down by CIF / NCS.
They should be pulled from DII game.

CIF / NCS aprox Dec 4 has placed CVCHS on 2yrs probation. see cctimes or claycord.com for full story.
They should not be playing tonight nor should they be allowed to go to State.

I remember Rick Jones! He was a big, bruising fullback. I was a student at Thomas Downey High in Modesto and we played Oakdale that year at 'the Corral' and lost something list 24-7. He rushed for over 200 yards and that was one of our two losses that year. He was a steamroller!

@Turfpellet, that was some pretty interesting stuff I just read. A bunch a crooked stuff going on in that school. Funny how they only got probation. At a loss for words at the moment, all I can think is Oakdale is playing against a team that cheated its way there.

Cheated how? Because there school ended a week earlier than everyone else, and they started conditioning the following week like every other school? Four high schools inadvertently committed the same mistake, and incurred no penalties. Clayton Valley was the only school penalized.

They have had transfers like every other competitive program in the East Bay? They are the only school I am aware of that had three kids sit out the entire year (I don't even know of another school that had one. Yet we all know kids transfer all the time, and if they are athlete sports definitely factor in the equation). Kahlil McKenzie left one of the best programs in the Nation, was the best player on their team, already had a full ride to any D-1 school he wanted, why would you leave that situation? It sure as hell was not because Clayton Valley was a better program, irregardless he never played a down.

The school has not cheated, but it is being persecuted because of it's Charter status and everyone crying foul. I will tell you this, they have a great group of young men, that are excellently coached, and will bring it every down. Calling them dirty or cheating, about a team, a coaching staff, and parent's group you know nothing about, say's it all.

Today's America:
If you win too much = you cheated. There simply is no other explanation. Yep, got to be cheatin' some how.

Where did Americans sack go ...

Paul_Johnson 884 - You hit it on the head. The charter school status is what really set this off. I guess CVC now has a little taste of what people have said about DLS for years, just because they beat the snot at everyone. Obviously, CVC is nowhere near that level, but people love to hate winners.

Heads-up for Oakdale - In regards to parking, the parking lots and surrounding neighborhoods will fill up quickly, but two blocks away is a Lucky shopping center. If all else fails, fans for both sides can park there. It is about a five to ten minute walk to the football field depending on your walking speed.

The other good news is the new snack bar building and restrooms are closer to the visitor side.

Looking forward to a great game.

@BayReporter they have obviously been in trouble before for doing shady stuff and they contintue getting away with with. They get no real punishment time after time just a slap on the wrist and so they continue to break rules. CV is trying to build a minni De la salle...they better be careful with that because they might just end up in DLS league and when that happends
there goes any future CV Championships

CV should have to follow the same rules as every other football team when it comes to practices...CV got something like 6 more. What is upsetting to me is the measures this school/admin/coach go to just to win a Championship, and possibly a Norcal.

Oakdales a winner but we did it with the same boys they have been playing together since they were 8 years old.

@paul...probably not cause Oak is a small town and we only have so many kids to CHOOSE from....CV will more then likly take it this year and thats ok. I know Oakdale will give everything they have and if it is not enough our community will still be PROUD of OUR OAKDALE BOYS!!...the boys chant at the end of every game..."OAKDALE BORN OAKDALE BREAD GOING TO BE A MUSTANG UNTIL THE DAY WERE DEAD"...Gooo Mustangs!!

Playing together since your eigth birthday is not an advantage? Help me understand why that is not an advantage.

I'm guessing the youth league runs the same offense too- if they don't, they should.

I have nothing against Oakdale. I like the way those kids play, especially that FB.

I agree with you Paul about the kids playing together. Unfortunately, Clayton runs a great youth league program, but from their the kids are split amongst the five high schools in the area including DLS. If we kept those kids together, that would be the best possible scenario.
