Since Paul doesn't play in any significant the tournaments....like the rest of the top teams do...today's game at 5:45 PST might decide who will end up number one
Paul plays undefeated Male today in Dustin, Florida...a neutral site

I believe the biggest game for Paul VI will be at St. John's College in league play. They also host St. John's College and will play Our Lady of Good Counsel twice as well ... plus possible rematches in the playoffs.

In my humble opinion the only challenges Paul VI has on their schedule is Centennial at home, St. John's once at home and once at St. John's. And Seton may split with them not sure on that. I don't think Our Lady of Good Counsel is a top team. They are more on the level under the top or the two levels under the top IMO.

And most with a clue know it is by far harder to travel and play in tough tournament games with top teams in the nation and all eyes watching 3 or 4 tough games in 3 or four days on the road than just comfortable familiar league play at home or nearby with home cooking.

I already crowned CW as the #1 team. So unless they get upset it doesn't matter what an untested team like Paul VI does. They aren't even really to be considered in the category with the top teams in the nation that have actually been tested. They are to be on that list with the undefeated and unchallenged. And I think St. John's or Seton will split when they meet up to settle how good they are or are not once they finally get a decent challenge in an unfriendly environment without home cooking. Not that I'm wishing for them to lose. I wish for them to be a more proven team to validate their belonging in the top 5. Not to mention being the #1 team in the nation.

I think you're underestimating rivalry games. The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference is a very, very difficult league and those teams all believe – at least the top three or four – that they can beat anyone else in the league. Sometimes we lose sight of that because locally, our leagues are not that strong. Perhaps the only comparison is the West Catholic Athletic League from several years ago when there were four or five really good teams, and every road game with any one of those opponents was going to be a serious test.

And there is also a playoff in the WCAC, so St. John's College may have three shots at PVI, and they won't be intimidated in any of them.

Of course the challenge of playing the TOC or any other major tournament is a major one, but in my experience, a rivalry game with a quality opponent, even if my team is better, is far from a sure thing.

Sure. No one was or would argue that fact. That is why I'm looking forward to St. John's (who I still believe is the only real challenge other than Seton who they play twice and Centennial who they've already beaten by 7 at home on their IMO weak schedule.

My point is it is better to reward and measure how good a team is by the accomplishments they make not by speculating how good they are on paper before they pass a couple quizzes and perhaps a final exam. That is if they have any real test on their schedule. I say after Paul proves themselves in the Seton and St. John's games, then and only then will I validate the need to have them as a top 5 team IMO. I have no problem with others using a different criteria that gives more value to teams that are good on paper regardless to whether they ever get tested and challenged by the best in unfamiliar environments playing unfamiliar top teams in the nation in 3 or 4 games back to back in 3 or 4 days with large crowds and media watching. Sleeping in hotel beds and no home cooking on or off the court. My criteria is just a bit more challenging.

Let's revisit this discussion after Paul plays two legit upcoming games since at this point the only test they've had IMO was at home vs Centennial.

1/18 Paul VI @ Seton
1/24 Paul VI @ St. John's

We will know them a little better after those games. At least that will be somewhat a test since they missed the toughest test the Nike TOC in Arizona and Hawaii tournament.
