CN vs. JS

Cardinal Newman has too many guns for J-S and are more seasoned......CN35 J-S 20
Justin is a very solid program, don't tend to make mistakes, and are well coached. They are very capable of making CN work for this win. They aren't a pushover.

35-21 CN in a tough game, JS really needs to run the ball well to have a chance

Close first half then 42-13 with Newman pulling away in the second half.

Doesn't JS have a D1 caliber QB? I haven't seen him play yet. Good program from everything I have read. I think this will be a good game and a solid tune up for Newman. I do see Newman pulling away like Bella said but it will be there best game in awhile.

I think CN defense will stuff JS running game, forcing JS to air it out. Their offensive success will depend on their passing game. If CN gets the offense in gear in the first quarter, it should not be a close game. CN RB Ortola is very physical, and so is CN OLine. Then there's QB Brookshire and WR Wallace to deal with. I think it's too much for JS to handle for 4 quarters. I pick CN by 4 TD's because JS just hasn't played against the level of competition CN has this year, sans MC. We'll see tomorrow night. Good luck to both programs, and, "May the odds be forever in your favor."

Who has CN played in the last 7 weeks?
Last I looked the regular season was 10 games, WineSnot. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. You got one? To answer your question though, NBL vs. MCL, including four league teams who are moving on to 2nd round NCS in D2, D3. Oh and St. Mary's Stockton and Clayton Valley vs. Peidmont for JS. Just saying.

To be far to JS their SOS is pretty comparable
To CN, but yeah no doubt CN is more battle tested.....Willard is a D1 prospect but doesn't have the guys outside to hurt Newman

Winesnot- that's clever. I'm not sold D2 and D3 are awesome and I didn't say the MCAL was better than NBL. I think both leagues are weak. JSHS actually has 4 teams from their schedule still playing. I would say Cardinal Newman is a 3 touchdown favorite but not because of schedule. Because of personnel. I would be surprised if JSHS wins but not surprised if they compete. They had full commitment from all their players throughout the off season, including the summer. There has not been distractions and the coaching staff holds the players that commit to the program to a very high standard. Win or lose they stick with their group. It could easily be a blowout but I am hoping for a good game.

Fair enough. I'm looking forward to a good game too. And actually, the NBL is weaker this year than most years, but it's not a weak league. I think Rancho and CN will be the only survivors of round two.

I don't think you can compare the MCAL and NBL year in and out. THe NBL is the better league. Historically you have Newman, Rancho, Casa, and Windsor making some noise down the stretch. With exception of MC the MCAL falls off like a cliff.

I think the NBL is way better than the MCAL. I think only one of the two could be considered weak.

I think one of the D2 teams pulls off an upset.

MCAL and NBL aren't the same at all

Nope they aren't! But the NBL is pretty down this year, still better than the MCAL. MCAL is also down.

Most years NBL > MCAL > SCL. This year looks the same.

Final, CN 47-6. Which was the halftime score as well. 2nd half running clock, with Brookshire and other starters sitting out the entire 2nd half. JS completely outplayed by a fired up Cardinal team. CN hit the ground running, scoring on the first play from scrimmage, Brookshire 70 run. Brookshire and the CN offense were on fire. Wallace had a long TD reception on next drive, and it just blew up on JS from then on. However JS did put together a drive for score in 1st quarter. This is the best I've seen the CN offense clicking. Oline was creating huge holes for Ortola and Brookshire. JS turned the ball over in 2nd quarter with 2 picks that CN turned into 2 scores in about 2 minutes to end the half.

Let me say a few things. First, if Brookshire was playing in the SJS he would have a # of offers already. I hear Pac12 is calling now and I'm sure its only a matter of time but for this kid to have another year…. wow! Next, I don't think Newman's next game will be that competitive. (Piedmont or Fortuna). Newman is on a tear and both those schools aren't ready for them.

I am secretly pulling for Fort Bragg today. Not because I dislike MC. I have the most respect for them. I just hope that a small school that doesn't get much press can make a game of it. I've read good things about there QB Sullivan. Big kid at 6"3 200. If anybody is going let us know…

Good luck.

LL,

I plan on going to Kentfield (with a pre game stop at Marin Brew Co.) I'll try to give some updates.

Nice Bella123. You gotta love those kentfield day games. Its like Jesuit up here. Man I hope Newman gets field turf soon. Somebody (not me) needs to donate some $$. Is MC QB back?

Yup he's back, it was a deep shin contusion after the bye week he's ready to roll

Watched some of the Moreau game online last night. The winner of MC Fort Bragg has a pretty good football team waiting for them.

Speaking of QB's the Redwood Empire has a few good ones. Kid from MC is legit, Newman has a real deal dual threat, Rancho has a qb that can air it out, Casa Grande has a big boy with a nice arm, Justin Siena has a nice qb, Fort Bragg has a kid who can air it out, Analy has a nice qb who can put it in the air (kid is 15). Good to see all those signal callers out there balling. It totally enhances the level of play. Heck, I could be forgetting a few also.

Yeah they have game breakers for sure, might be a El Cerrito type matchup like MC had a two years ago

Slick- You are correct. A lot of good QB's. I wouldn't be surprised if all of those kids don't end up playing college football whether D1 or D2.

They have some size too. I was very suprised. I lived and worked near the school about 10 years ago and dont remeber any size or speed like that roaming around the campus.

I don't know what to make of those El Cerrito teams. I watched them play Analy last night and they look good but their execution is off. Analy on the otherhand looks like a bunch of midgets and then they march up and down the field.

Slick- Coaching… Football is the one sport that coaching dictates more outcomes than anything else.
Yeah all of those QB's are between 6"1-6"4 with weight. All have the build to play at the next level.

MC gets overwhelmed by top end speed, they always have the size but just don't have the speed athletes like they had in the days of Allan Amundson or Khalil Bell......they have nice athletes obviously but not the guys who can get outside and be gone

So true. I see it all the time. Talent is one thing but it comes down to execution in the end. You can all the size and speed in the world but if they don't execute consistently its all for not.

Moreau has it all. I've seen faster teams but for DIV they're really nice. Good luck with Fort Bragg first though.

FB 1st and goal and the 2! MC holds. Peterson leads 99 yard drive w a 24 yard scoring pass. 14-0 MC, 9:39 2nd.

Fort Bragg QB Sullivan has a good arm and good legs. Impressed by him, but he doesn't have the supporting cast.
