Does anyone know what is the status of the CCS Girls D1 Bracket. Do all four Semi final teams advance to the Nor Cals? There are no D1 teams in the open. It looks like all the other Divisions will send four. Will D1 send four ?

CCS is Only sending the two finalist from CCS D1, D3, D4 and D5
D2 sending only the Champion
And the 8 CCS open participant to Norcal State .. That’s my understanding.. it won’t change until next year

That gives us only 17 entries and I thought we have 20 spots to fill. If that is the case D1 has 2, D2 has 4, D3 has 4, D4 has 3 and D5 has 4. That is 17 total. Doesn't make any sense. D1 should have as many as the other divisions.

That’s pretty much how it is unless something changes.. I hope that help you understand the CCS system

It's possible, though rather unlikely, that PAL teams could capture four of the five enrollment-based CCS division crowns (the league has no teams in D5). Even two or three titles would be a laudable accomplishment for the league.

Does anybody know definitively how many teams the other sections are sending to NOR CAL's.

From the 2018 CIF Basketball Regional Handbook:

CS-14
CCS-20
LACS-13
NCS-24
NS-12
OS-2
SJS-22
SDS-13
SFS-2
SS-44

I think they can submit as many as they like from any division, so there's no reason they couldn't submit two D2 teams. Now they don't want to submit that many teams, so maybe they won't, but I believe they could if they wanted to.

Congrats PAL coaches and team.

If CCS gets 20aq like I have read on the CIF website--every division would get 4. That means the 4 semi finalist in D1 are in. If that is what I read. There are no D1 teams in the open.

I think CCS is taking 18 ... the eight in the Open and the top two in each division.

Next year, with the change in calendar, they supposedly will send more.

According to CCS coordinator, they re only taking 1 from D2, meaning that unless they take more from the other divisions, they will only be sending 17. They are allowed 20.

So unless a public can upset the WCAL's Valley Christian, every WCAL team will advanced to Nor Cals. D2 is the only division besides the Open (all privates) that has a WCAL team. Doesn't seem very fair.

It's about time that CCS allows these hard working teams an opportunity to experience the State Tournament. CCS has been called the no fun Section by certain individuals. Not sending the maximum allowed is cheating the kids and coaches, who have put in hard work all season long. Waiting to next year to send the maximum is ridiculous.

Congrats PAL coaches and team.

In the final analysis, PAL teams will play for three sub-Open Division CCS titles: M-A in Division I, Aragon in Division II and SSF in Division III. Those were also the three strongest PAL teams during the regular season. The rest have fallen by the wayside.

Its safe to say then that PAL is highly represented in CCS championship games.

Certainly very strong compared to other public school leagues in the section. But, remember, all eight Open Division entries are private/parochials which means they are, by definition, the eight best in the section.

The open is for Winter All Star Teams. The rest are just good old fashioned High School Teams!!!

With Sequoia losing to Silver Creek last night, is that mean they're out of NorCal since CCS will only include the 2 finalists?

Great season for Sequoia regardless.

Yes the Cherokee are out of the Nor Cals. Unfortunately the CCS doesn't follow what the other section do. The other sections send their semi-final teams to Nor Cals . CCS is ridiculous. Yes, Sequoia had their best season evee,

I have heard from a committee member that they will send 20. I hope that is correct!!
If CCS sends 20, where will the other 3 come from? D2 is only sending the division winner which means 17 spots are guaranteed.

Both the final 2 of this division should go up to NorCals. Why should Valley Christian or Aragon be kept out of Norcals when they have reached the final 2 in their division. All the other CCS divisions send their final 2.

Now, I know the reason given, but doing so means CCS only sends 17 of their alotted 20 spots. Why penalize VC or Aragon for being in the toughest division in CCS when there are still 3 spots left open. Why not use one spot for Aragon or VC?

If you look at VC or Aragon's ranking, they are more than deserving, even if you consider the finalists of the other divisions. Seems only fair and common sense to send these two both up to Norcals.

You are correct. It is an injustice that only one team from D2 will advance. CCS not using all twenty berths makes absolutely no sense and deprives some teams of the State Playoff experience. Now another section gets to use the CCS's additional berths. Shame on you Board of Managers. This is about kids getting an educational experience and you failed them.

The CCS logic is that basketball season is too long and conflicts with spring sports so as few teams as possible should keep playing.

The word is, though, that with the change in calendar next year (NorCals will begin Feb. 26), CCS will send more teams.

Thanks Clay, but that doesn't give this years teams a chance for a State experience. The CCS has been doing this for years. Pretty lousy if you ask me. Thanks for your in put. I am an old coach who has watched the CCS do these types of things for years.

I'm sure that's not much consolation to Aragon's 7 seniors and VC's 4. getting into the finals, especially for a public is not easy and is never guaranteed. For Aragon it's been 10 years. Both teams should be rewarded.
