Tonight we have a showdown between A league power Piedmont Hills and the 0-12 Aztec Warriors of Yerba Buena. This should be a sellout crowd considering Westmont beat YB 79-19.
Tonight we could witness History with a shutout at both levels. Maybe I am a "Rabble Rouser" but a truthful one of that. I'm hoping I can make the game by the half after I watch my nephews team get blown out again down the road.
Between the Red Cross, CPS employees and the National guard we may have 100 strong on hand tonight. I mean if I'm a YB faithful, I can't wait to watch my aztecs get railroaded like Reuben Carter.
If Ghandi were still alive, he would take a front row seat to this one and just pray......just pray.

We had a similar problem in the AAA. Not sure exactly when, but the league became only 1 division.
After participating in 5 years of blowouts in half the league, I began talking to coach's, our AD, and the commissioner. We all agreed, this had to change. Three years ago they decided to change it to a power, non-power league. This has been beneficial to both sides.
No more ridiculous 95-11 scores, practices are more competitive than a game like this for the superior team.
The kids, parents, and coach's on the inferior team don't feel embarrassed and or ashamed.
It's a win, win situation when its power, non-power division!!
Seems locale has something to do with the BVAL

I have been in the AAA as a player and coach for the past 19 years and have seen how the divisions have changed over the years. When I played it was 12 teams spilt into two divisions and as a coach when teams started entering the AAA the last 3-5 years led to being one division and now power/non-power.

I don't have much background on the BVAL but for the most part they had 24 teams in three divisions with teams moving up and being relegated to another division annually. So they had something to a power/non-power format.

So the switch to having divisions by region obviously does not provide competitive balance especially having a previous system in place to provide competitive balance among the schools and divisions.

I gotta say JCBUST's posts are entertaining.

One of the other coaches posted that this was done to reduce travel costs and increase neighborhood rivalries. That makes sense on paper but the performance of the East side League has been awful especially in non conference.

PHHS stands to lose the most with the lack of competition in league. Their HC must be furious about this situation. Imagine trying to motivate players in practice. Tough Situation for all.

I'm going to do some rearch into who initiated this proposal. The CCS should have the knowledge or can point me in the right direction. Facebook is blowing up as well to find out who created this " lack of common sense" league. I wonder if this proposal was on the girls side as well? Probably not because the scores who be even worse, im going to check.....

I agree that this is going to hurt both the top Boys and Girls teams. As Zrules/JCBUST documented Piedmont Hills is not getting better but that is just his obsession for Simos. (Posts are getting funnier though) But I do agree with his point. Leigh won't get better vs San Jose High and they beat Valley Christian in non-league, and Santa Teresa or Leland Won't get better vs Andrew Hills. The BVAL already have to face the WCAL and DeAnza that get better every night. This system seems like playoff suicide. I don't know how they expect to compete when watering down their competition. They won't.

Here is what I know.

A group of coaches (Simos and Berticivech (sp?) lead) presented a format that made one "A" League and then all the other leagues regional. It was something about not wanting a bottom league and increasing interest all around. The coaches didn't like that but also didn't like the power leagues they were in so they are trying this system for a year or two. Apparently every boys coach voted for it but not all the girls.

If they went with the plan that they originally made maybe it would work much better but the Leigh, Piedmont Hills and a few others have gotten too strong. I'm not as familiar with Girls basketball but I bet they are having the same problem.

It works for some leagues in CCS and most leagues in NCS but BVAL might have different situations kind of like the MBL.

Great insight HSHF. Question: Does this apply to all sports? Football in this format really would require CPS as JCBust mentioned. Serious safety issue.

Just checked out the girls side. Much more parity as expected.

SC 57-14 MP and 27-1 after quarter

Pioneer 52-6 Hill, big shut out in the second half.

With all this crazyness the Pirates are down to a 58 point favorite tonight.

JCBUST being the evolved version of Zrules does make for a much more entertaining poster and I can begin to follow their train of thought and get on board...

Let's just say what it is : a complete disaster. You can't find a coach (especially in the BVAL East) for either boys or girls, that believes this system is best for everyone. With the move from power leagues to regional divisions the word on the street is that feedback has been critical and we may find a move back to an A, B, and C division sooner than expected.

It looks like some leagues are already wrapped up. The following teams are favored to go 14-0 (or 13-1) in their respective divisions:

BVAL EAST

Boys - P Hills (not even a contest)
Girls - Silver Creek

BVAL South

Boys - Difficult to tell
Girls - Difficult to tell

BVAL West

Boys - Leigh
Girls - Leigh

Feels like the only league where there will be consistent competition would be the BVAL South.

It would be a great to hear from one of the BVAL coaches on this matter. I think Coach Simos posts on the boards once and a while. Maybe he could give some insight and also post how he plans on preparing his team for the playoffs.

Might require some out of the box thinking. Can you schedule scrimmages in season? What about a joint practice? Are there any end of the season tournaments?

BVAL West has competition between Leigh, Lincoln, and Willow Glen although Leigh are going to win the league.

I just noticed a couple of added scrimmages on the Pirates Basketball Homepage. They have picked up a team from Harlem called the Globetrotters???? Two weeks later the Washington Generals are poppping in as well. Smart move.

After concluding my research I came up with this info. Second hand of Course but within BVAL. Believe it or not this "Foolish idea" and we are almost to the bottom of it will come out soon.i did learn Judgegot wind of this scam and left for Saratoga.

The CCS basketball committee is hurting the game of high school basketball in the area. The current committee members just vote for each other's agenda items in league or tournament seeding for post season. The committee should be made up of retired coaches who want to make the game better for everybody. By the way the current CCS committee is not the sharpest it's ever been but try telling them that and it offends them! These guys wont let go of the power toooo many egoooo's - People who know these guys just think about would you let these guys wash your dog? Too many years doing the same stuff and acting like you have the entire CCS as your interest - you only care about your seed.

Does anyone know who is on the CCS basketball Committee?

I called my buddy who coaches in the SCVAL and they said they are watching this situation very closely.

Thank You Okd Blue Eyes, I agree on the personal agenda. Especially the Yo-Yo who thought this league was a good idea.

***** In case I'm late due to my nephews JV team getting blown out down the street, does anybody know if this game is being streamed?

WTH???????? I show up to YB and the Gym is closed????? Did the Aztecs forfeit? This is crazy!

Not to mention my Nephews team got rolled like a cheap cigar!

The game is being played at P Hills
Just got the final 73-28 Pirates. Much more of a ball game than I anticipated. Looks like a couple breaks go the Aztecs way it's a different ball game.

Dfence1st, were you game tonight? Was it a sell out? Decent crowd? Was YB 5'9 Center able to touch botttom of net? Was their inbound stack working.

Next two games vs. Silver Creek and Overfelt will be true juggernuts where the Pirates may only win by 40.

1 A Team ( Top Tier last 5 years )
2 B Teams
5 C Teams

Interesting make up of League

I found the ccs basketball committee report. It's sites Bertovich and Simos present but also notes no representation of West Valley on either the boys or girls side. Pretty big proposal to push through without presence of C league. This reminds me of the American Revolution.

"No Taxation Without Representation"

A previous poster posted that the C league coaches voted for it. Do you have the link? If the C league teams weren't consulted that would be a travesty.

Go figure, a WCAL source fed me the wrong info. CCS had nothing to do with forming the lopsided leagues. I apologize. As stated above by another poster, it looks like Pioneer and Piedmont spearheaded this debacle of a League.

On my way across town to catch PH play Mount Plesant. MP lost by 50 to Westmont so we should have a good one on our hands.

PH 50-44 over MP??????? MP lost 73-17 to Leigh. Looks like PH is more of a Good B league team from what I saw tonight. Maybe the league was created knowing PH wasn't very good this year. PH/Overfelt may be within 30 next week. IHS wins the league, you heard it hear first.

PH 51-38 over Indy last night
I'm not always right, off on my prediction here. You seem like a Pitate faithful. Any idea where either of those 6'3 centers are playing at? I believe they would be jr/sr now. Walter kid and Stewart?
